Saturday open hours 10am to 4pm. We are closed on Sunday and Monday. All surrenders are still by prior approval and appointment only. Even if you are only coming in to look during our open hours, you can still fill out our application prior to visiting. This will save time if you do decide to adopt. Preference on adopting a pet is given to our Shelter Supporters and VIP Donors . When animals arrive at the shelter, VIP donors will be emailed and given the first option to set up an appointment to view an animal of their choice. Click on the link above for full details. Due to limited staff, we may not be able to answer the phones. All information is available on this website, or can be answered by email to staff@sterlingshelter.org . Please be patient, we are doing the best we can to handle the volume. If you don't See any pets on our PETS for ADOPTION PAGE - it simply means that all of the animals were adopted. We have several areas in/around the shelter to view and interact with the pet/s that you are potentially going to adopt. This includes outdoor, fully fenced yards. We encourage you to bring currently owned dogs so you can introduce them to any dogs that you are interested in adopting. Planning YOUR Visit to Adopt: please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time, please make sure you have any/all necessary paperwork required for adoption and help us stick to our schedule/s - so others do NOT have to wait. You should plan * For cats/kittens plan for 30 to 45 minutes. * For dogs/puppies plan for 45 to 60 minutes. If you have another dog/s at home - make sure to bring him/her - we have plenty of space/areas to do a meet and greet with a new dog and your dog/s. Meet Gunnar! Gunnar is approximately 2 years old and 22 lbs currently and he is a Mutt with perhaps a splash of dachshund. Gunnar was found as a stray and was Heartworm positive. He has been treated and is now ready for his forever home. In his foster home, he is working hard on his house training, crate training and leash walking. He could join households with kids 5+, cats, and other dogs.His foster says, `Mr. T.M. Gunnar aka Tiny Man Gunnar is an absolutely amazing pup. He is happy no matter what is going on. DOB 12-7-2024 Wolfie is a gorgeous Red and White Long Hair! This beautiful boy loves everyone, likes to play with toys and his friends. He is neutered, heartworm negative and has received a Proheart6 preventative injection, up to date on shots and is now looking for a loving home. His adoption fee is 900.00 and his transport fee is 135.00. HEARTS is our transport, they run every 2 weeks. It's the best transport and the only one we will use. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. Linus is a sweet, cuddly dachshund born in 2018 who absolutely loves being close to his people. His favorite things include going for walks, soaking up the sun, snuggling on the couch, and burrowing under cozy blankets. He’s also a loyal little protector who likes to keep an eye on the house and let you know when someone’s nearby. As much as we love him, our growing family (with a toddler and another baby on the way) has made it difficult to give Linus the environment he truly needs. He can feel anxious around a busy toddler, and we don’t feel it’s fair for him to spend so much time separated from the family. We are looking for a loving home where Linus can feel safe, relaxed, and get all the cuddles and attention he deserves — ideally a calmer environment without young children and other dogs.
