Story
Charming CHAMP is a middle-aged guy who likes mellow walks and quiet time with his human. He LOVES to snuggle and at 15 lbs he fits wonderfully in a lap. We estimate him to be a Dachshund / Terrier mix and about 7-9 years old. Champ can be very protective of his people and home, so he would prefer to be your one and only - no other pets or children. Any interested applicants will need to come to the shelter to spend some time with him before adoption to understand his behaviors and how to best support him to have a happy home. The volunteers at ARF love him to bits and know he will be a wonderful buddy for the right person!

Story
Jackie is the smallest dog in our facility at the moment, but presents with that usual big dog persona. 😉Jackie is about 15 pounds and would do great in a quiet low key home with slow introductions. While we don’t know much about Jackie’s past as she was a stray… she does well once she warms up to you! We envision her spending her days lounging about watching reruns of the price is right and agreeing with the late bob barker to spay and neuter your pets.

Story
Happy Gilmore is an 16 lb dachshund mix who we estimate to be between 13 and 14 years old. He was a stray, so his past life has made him very laid back. Although he is quiet, he knows exactly when you go to the kitchen and loves to follow you in hopes of a snack. Happy Gilmore is a sweet, chilled dude. And gets along with everyone including children and other dogs. A couch potato and a snoozer and will bark when you get home because gets excited to see you. He will happily sit next to you forever and only leaves when you get up. He goes to his bed every day when the sun goes down and sleeps through the night.    Environment Happy Gilmore is housetrained and understands “you want to go to potty”. He’s looking for a home with a fenced yard as that’s what he’s used to, and he likes to wander and sniff. He doesn’t really chase or dig, just likes to pootle around and come back inside once he’s done his business. Happy Gilmore would appreciate someone who doesn’t need to leave him alone too long, since he’s unknown on crate training. Shared walls are totally fine since he’s not super chatty.   Pets & People Happy Gilmore is great with people of all ages. He enjoys being petted and loved on, however, he doesn’t jump on and off the furniture and will need to be picked up. Happy Gilmore is good with other dogs and doesn’t have any issues with sharing treats or food despite his good appetite!    Training and Health Happy Gilmore has a grade six heart murmur and is heartworm positive, so he will need ongoing medication and to be kept comfortable. He willingly takes his medication because he’s such a foodie—and such a good boy, of course. He loves to go for a walk and see the sights and is very good on the leash.   Location Happy Gilmore is available for adoption from Milton, FL. He’s just fine in the car and is looking forward to a ride to his new home (hopefully very soon). *LITTLE PAWS HAS RECEIVED A GRANT TO HELP COVER HAPPY GILMORE’S PRESCRIPTIONS ANS ADOPTION FEE. Please email cindybuck44@yahoo.com for information. Please email cindybuck44@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application by clicking the button above. The adoption fee for Happy Gilmore is $200.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 6:21 am

Story
Daisy is a 14-year-old, quiet little girl with soulful eyes, who is bonded with Rufus. Both pups can take time to warmup, but once they know you, they are sweet and loving. Daisy is the more laidback of the two but can be led astray by her brother from time to time! They are on the search for a quiet home with experienced owners, and no young children. Environment Both are crate trained and house trained too. On walks there is too much stimulation for both pups, and they react anxiously to other dogs and people. As a result, they will need a fenced yard to get their exercise. They don’t necessarily need someone who works from home since they are fine in their crates, but they wouldn’t be suitable for doggy daycare or similar.   Pets & People Daisy can take time to warm up to new dogs. Any introductions to new dogs should be very slow and approached with love and patience. Separation should continue at mealtimes as she isn’t shy about taking other dogs’ food. With new people it’s a similar story—she needs time and patience. Once she accepts you, she just wants to be petted and loved. Health Daisy is deaf and has a heart murmur for which she is receiving palliative care. Rufus is important to her as her bonded partner and as her "emotional support animal". The cardiologist recommended a diet free of legumes (currently eats Royal Canin Mature Adult). Luckily, she takes her medicine very easily, but should be sedated for vet care or stressful situations.  Location Daisy and Rufus are available for adoption from Wheaton, MD. They are a little whiny in the car but will quiet down eventually.  Please email doxelovr@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the link above. The adoption fee for Daisy has been waived due to her health and comfort care requirements.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 6:21 am

Story
Rufus is a 14-year-old dachshund who is bonded with Daisy. Both pups take time to warmup, but once they do, they are sweet and loving. They were rescued from a shelter and are in search of a quiet home with experienced owners, and no young children.   Environment Both are crate trained and house trained too. Rufus especially loves to run and sniff unfettered, whereas on walks there is too much stimulation for him and he reacts anxiously to other dogs and people. As a result, this pair will need a fenced yard to get their exercise. They don’t necessarily need someone who works from home since they are fine in their crates, but they wouldn’t be suitable for doggy daycare or similar.  They both enjoy snuggling in their beds and relaxing in a open crate.   Pets & People As mentioned before Rufus is slow to warmup and needs time to get to know other dogs. It could take several days for him to warm up so initially he may need separation from other animals. This should continue at meal times as he is a big eater, and isn’t shy about taking other dogs’ food. With new people it’s a similar story—he needs time and patience. However, once he becomes familiar, he will steal your heart with his beautiful face and loyal nature.  Location Rufus and sister Daisy are available for adoption from Wheaton, MD.
