Story
Rigby is Mr Personality!!! He is a happy go lucky soul that got dropped on a country road on a cold day in the winter. He found a long driveway and walked a half mile of it, and then scratched on the house door to come in! He is a very fun guy that loves absolutely everybody he meets, including all dogs and cats! He is playful and snuggly and silly and absolutely loves to check out dark spaces like cabinets, washing machines, or even crawling in the refrigerator! He goes on a daily 1 mile walk with five other dogs and he loves to snuggle with you at night in bed. He tested positive for Heartworms and his currently on antibiotics. In late May, he will need to begin the process of injections to kill the worms. The person who adopt him will be responsible for following the protocol set by the vet to get rid of the worms. He will need to be kept calm during most of June and July this year while the worms dissolve. He is very easy to care for and he will make you smile and laugh every single day. Contact irondawgs13@gmail.com for adoption application.

Story
Debbie and Fritz what a duo! These two senior dachshunds came to AWS after their owner was no longer able to care for them. They are sweet and outgoing. Fritz is always happy to see someone, and will try to jump right into your lap! Debbie like attention too, but is slightly more independent. Until it's snack time! Debbie and Fritz are good friends, and are looking for a home together. Debbie is 12 years old, spayed, and up to date with vaccines. Fritz is 11, neutered and up to date with vaccines. They get along just fine with cats, and wouldn't mind living with a feline friend. They also don't mind other dogs! Both dogs have had their senior bloodwork done, and have received a clean bill of health. Debbie and Fritz are excellent dogs, looking for a loving household to spend their senior years. They would bring joy, fun and love to whoever's home they are welcomed into. For more information on how to adopt Debbie+Fritz please call us at 860-354-1350 or fill out an adoption application located on our website @aws-shelter.org. The adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.

Story
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying.   Energy Level: Medium Potty training: trained Fenced yard: no but does need frequent potty breaks Shared walls: no  People: no young children Dogs: good with slow moving dogs that will respect his space Other: Sammy does well when he wears a soft cone; it helps him to navigate his surroundings as well as gives him a barrier in his personal space.   Overview   Meet Sammy, a beautiful ~10 year old, 10 lb golden-coated dachshund who proves that love sees beyond physical limitations.   Sammy came to Little Paws as a stray found in Miami, but this sweet boy has nothing but affection to give. Despite being somewhat visually impaired due to cataracts, Sammy navigates the world with his heart wide open and is absolutely craving human connection and love.   Environment   Sammy is a gentle soul who enjoys short walks and playtime. He’s potty trained with regular potty breaks, doing best with a consistent routine. He’s great on the leash and loves his walks. Sammy is not a fan of the crate and does bark when left alone. He needs a home without shared walls. This love bug just wants to be near his people! His happy place is the sofa, left to relax without interruption.   Pets & People   Sammy is incredibly sweet with adults and older children, but he wouldn’t suit living with young children as he can be easily startled. He has shown some guarding of his space but after recent eye surgery his disposition has improved. Sammy doesn’t like to be moved when he gets comfortable and is best when left alone in "his space". He will need an adopter willing to let him be in his happy place; he will come to the human for affection on his own terms. Because he is easily startled and needs this space, he would be ok as an only dog or with another small, calm dog. His nature makes him wonderful with patient family members who understand his needs. Due to his vision, he’s very gentle around food and needs to be guided to his food and water bowls, but he manages beautifully once he knows where everything is. Sammy has come a long way since the shelter and has recently discovered his love of squeaky toys and has developed a bond with his foster sibling, Cosmo, a small easy going doxie mix.   Health   Sammy has cataracts that cause visual impairment, and he recently had eye surgery to repair a lens. He sometimes bumps into things and needs gentle guidance to his food and water bowls, but he manages well. Wearing a soft cone helps him to navigate his home. He tries to use potty pads but can not always see them. He takes a joint supplement, omega for his skin, and probiotics. He is on a low fat diet and must continue on this food. His visual challenges don’t slow down his loving spirit one bit.   Location   Sammy is available for adoption from Miami, FL. Please email applications@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Aspen is $250.00. Story
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Energy level: medium Potty training: in progress Fenced yard: yes, required Shared walls: suitable People: all Dogs: does well with other dogs; large dogs untested Other: has never been on a leash Overview Sweet, quiet, and full of surprises, meet Nutmeg. This 8-year-old black and tan long- haired pure dachshund came to Little Paws as a surrender, and she is just beginning to discover what life as a cherished family dog looks like. At 9 lbs of soft, silky fluff, Nutmeg is a gentle soul with a playful spirit waiting to come out. She takes her time with new people and new situations, but once she decides you are her people, she is wonderfully sweet. Environment Nutmeg is still learning the ropes of housetraining and will need patience and a consistent routine. She has never been on a leash before, so walks will be a whole new adventure for her, one she will need to take at her own pace with a gentle, encouraging hand. A securely fenced yard will give her a safe space to explore and build her confidence. She goes into her crate on her own during the day to nap, which is a lovely sign of how settled she is in her space. She is calm and quiet indoors and seems to do fine when left with other dogs around. She did well being picked up and transported to her foster home, which bodes well for car travel. Pets & People Nutmeg is shy and skittish at first with new people, but she opens up into a warm, sweet companion once she feels safe. She does well with the other dogs in her foster home, though she has not yet been around large dogs, so introductions with bigger breeds should be done thoughtfully. She is gentle with treats and loves her food. Her compatibility with cats is unknown and would need to be assessed. Location Nutmeg is available for adoption from Cumming, GA. Please email juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Nutmeg is $325.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 16, 2026, 7:15 am

Lil bit  Lil Bit Bio Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Energy level: high Potty training: pee pads Fenced yard: yes, required Shared walls: not suitable People: adults and older children Dogs: small dogs only  Other: currently doing well on a weight management plan   Overview Lil Bit has a personality that fills any room she walks into. This sweet 3-year-old long-haired red mix is game for just about anything life has to offer, as long as she gets to be part of it. Lil Bit came to Little Paws after the heartbreaking loss of her owner. She deserves nothing less than a loving forever home, and she's ready to pour every bit of her affection into the right family—she’s waiting with many kisses.    Environment Lil Bit is high energy and loves her daily adventures. She happily keeps pace with big dogs on woodland walks and is a joy on leash. She'll need a securely fenced yard to roam and burn off that enthusiasm. She uses pee pads indoors and is still working toward fully outdoor potty habits, so patience and consistency will help her get there. She uses a pen rather than a crate and is comfortable in that setup. When her foster leaves, she does protest a bit vocally, but there's no destruction—she settles down, especially with the company of other dogs. She's happiest with canine housemates around. Because she can be chatty, she'll do best in a home without shared walls. Lil Bit is also currently on a weight management plan; a combination of regular exercise and a weight control diet is already showing results, and she just needs to shed a few more pounds to reach her healthy weight. Her new family will want to keep that momentum going.   Pets & People Lil Bit has settled into a multi-dog household with small dogs of all ages. She's adaptable and social with her canine crew but doesn’t do well with larger dogs. With people, she can be wary when meeting strangers on the street, but bring her into a home environment and she does wonderfully. She does best with older children because she’s a very food-motivated girl and small hands holding snacks could be tempting for her.   Location Lil Bit is available for adoption from Fairmont, WV. Please email Juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Lil Bit is $375.00.
