Story
Punch - 5.5 months & 12lbs (as of 5/12), Terrier Mix, Neutered*expected full grown size about 20lbs  This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 60 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy level:MEDIUM – Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Sort of – some puppies enjoy interacting with children, others get easily overwhelmed by their energy and attention. Regardless, most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Most puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Separation anxiety:Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes at night or when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Leash manners:None or learning, depending on the puppy’s age. Will need to work on this skill.   Crate trained?Probably not. None of our new puppies have been formally trained, but many of our foster parents/adopters choose to crate train so some of the puppies that have been with us for a little while are learning this skill. It can be a great way to keep puppies safe and teach them independence. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. (For dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age.) How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2735685##

Dandelion - 5 years & 15lbs, Dachshund Mix, Spayed  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn’t necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age carefully.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intakeHow did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. Story
DANNY From surviving an RV hoarding case with no running water, no electricity, and living in absolute filth… to becoming the happiest little chunky short-legged heartthrob you’ve ever seen. Danny was only 7 weeks old when we pulled him from the horrible hoarding situation in Merryville. The conditions these dogs survived were heartbreaking — packed into a camper covered in feces, neglected, starving, and forgotten. And somehow… despite all of that… Danny is STILL one of the sweetest, happiest little puppies you could ever hope to meet. Today, this precious boy is THRIVING.When we first got him, he weighed only 2.8 pounds. Now he’s around 15 pounds and has transformed into the funniest little long-bodied chunk with dangling legs that remind me of a bullfrog when I hold him. His little sparkles and markings make me wonder if there’s some Bluetick Hound mixed in there somewhere, maybe even a little Whippet or Dachshund… but whatever he is, he is 100% adorable. Danny is: Neutered Up-to-date on vaccines and preventions Full of personality Sweet beyond words Ready for a forever family And just like the other dogs from this hoarding case… he has absolutely NO meanness in him. None. These dogs went through unimaginable neglect and still love humans with their whole hearts. That says everything about who they are. Danny deserves a home where he will never again know hunger, fear, filth, or neglect. A home where he’ll be spoiled rotten, covered in blankets, kissed nonstop, and reminded every single day that he matters.  Danny will require continues puppy training, continued potty training and socialization.   Because this little boy survived hell… and still chose love. .  Please fill out an adoption application of your would like to have him join your family.  His $550 adoption fee covers medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, neuter, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2687184##

Story
Meet Rose Out of all 36 dogs crammed inside that horrific RV hoarding case in Merryville… tiny little Rose may just be the gentlest soul of them all. No electricity. No running water. No food.No comfort.Just survival. And somehow through all of that, this precious little girl remained nothing but soft, loving, and sweet. When Rose came to us, she had a broken leg that had healed on its own, forcing her to drag it behind her tiny little body everywhere she went. Since then, she has undergone two surgeries — one to amputate the damaged leg and another for her spay — and she has healed beautifully. Watching her now, you would never know the pain she once lived through. She hops around happily, plays, explores, and lives life to the fullest. Her three little legs do not slow her down one bit. At only around 13 pounds, she’s still working on gaining healthy weight after everything her body has endured, but she’s already blossoming into the happiest little princess. By transport time, I’m hoping this tiny sweetheart will have gained another pound or two and be feeling even stronger. Rose is absolutely wonderful with children, amazing with other dogs, and truly has not a single mean bone in her body. She is quiet, gentle, easygoing, and just wants love. Her favorite place in the world is curled up safely in your lap. Now… if someone walks outside at night while my kids are out or I’m walking dogs, suddenly Rose transforms into the fiercest little “guard dog” you’ve ever seen She will bark to alert me that danger is lurking… but the second I tell her “okay baby, that’s enough,” she quiets right down. She is eager to please and so incredibly well-mannered. You would never have to fuss at this little angel. After the life she survived, Rose deserves the softest blankets, the gentlest hands, the quietest home, and a family who will spend the rest of her life treating her exactly how she should have always been treated… Like the tiny princess she is. Heartworm negative Up-to-date on vaccines & preventions Dog friendly Kid friendly Professionally adorable Lap dog expert Tiny survivor with the biggest. Fill out an adoption application if you would like her to join your family.  Her $425 adoption fee covers medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, spay, microchip, leg amputation, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2687192##
