Because she was a breeding dog, she was not well socialized and will need patience when meeting new people. Once she warms up to you, she’s a sweetheart! While she may be 6 years old, she has a lot of spunk and would be best with another younger adult small dog to learn to play with. The one thing that you must understand is that she doesn’t know what it’s like to be a pet, so you will need patience when adopting her. Our must-haves for beautiful Stella include: A fenced yard Someone who is home more often than not Another younger, small, well-socialized dog for her to play with and learn from No apartment, high-rises, or condos, please If you have the experience and the patience, then you are welcome to apply for sweet little Stella.    ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. It was a tough decision, but one that had to be made. Gemma is as sweet as they come and very friendly! She LOVES attention and will follow you wherever you go in the house and yard. She gets along great with other dogs, male and female, but please no big dogs because, as small as she is and never having been around one, they would scare her too much. We are also saying no to cats, mainly because she’s never been around one, and we have no way to properly test her with one. If you are looking for a love bug, then Gemma would be the one for you, but understand she has never been an only dog, so we’ll only consider people who have another young, small dog to keep her company while you are out of the home. Our must-haves for sweet little Gemma include: A fenced yard Someone who can be home more often than not Another young, small dog for her to play with and cuddle with No apartments, high-rises, or condos since she, like other Dachshunds, likes to bark If you think you can give Gemma the home she deserves, please apply online and go through the approval process.    ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. He had belonged to an elderly person who allowed him to run the household. In doing so, he picked up some bad habits. With our help, he has developed some manners, but he will need to go to an experienced dachshund owner. Luke came into rescue overweight. He has lost some weight, but he may need to lose another pound or two after he is adopted. He really is a sweet, happy boy! He loves being outside and will do zoomies in the yard in the morning. We do know that he does not like going to the vet to get his nails trimmed, and a muzzle must be used. We also know that he doesn’t care for strangers. New people coming into the home would need to be made aware of this and not just walk in. Therefore, we think a quieter home would be best for him, one with few visitors. Taking Luke out for walks and to non-stressful environments, such as PetSmart, would be great for him. If you are looking for a standard, then here is your chance. Please help Luke find his last forever home. Our must-haves for adorable Luke include: A fenced yard A quieter home He can be an only dog or with another small, adult dog Only adult children in the home, 14 years plus No apartments, high-rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Once out in the grass, she does a happy dance when I call her “Pretty girl” and wants more belly rubs (video of her morning outside rubs). Luna lost some weight due to running around and having fun! She is working to regain her weight.  BIO UPDATE (11/4/25):  Luna started playing some with her 2-year-old foster brother! She also cuddles with her foster sisters. She goes up and down ramps like a pro now. Luna does great with spine walking. This girl so deserves a forever home, please consider her! BIO UPDATE (9/13/25):  Luna is doing very, very well. She is almost finished with her physical therapy and will soon be going to her permanent foster home, where she will remain until she finds her forever home. Luna is a happy little girl! She will always “wobble walk” (check out her video), but she is doing very, very well. BIO:  Luna came from a breeder in North Carolina when she went down in the back. We took her immediately to our specialty vet clinic, and they determined that she was not a candidate for surgery. So, we had to put her through physical therapy to teach her to spine walk. Spinal walking (SW) occurs when a paralyzed dog with no pain sensation or feeling in their legs learns to walk and stand through reflex. Luna is doing very well and is also getting laser therapy and Acupuncture. She will never walk normally, but she has learned to walk instead of dragging her back legs. She is a very determined little lady, and she deserves a home where they appreciate her willingness to keep working to strengthen her legs. Our must-haves for precious Luna include: A fenced yard to get out and continue to strengthen her back legs, and when outside, she is FAST Someone who is home more often than not Someone with IVDD experience Another small young dog for her to hang with No apartments, high-rises, or condos Please don’t just look at her coloring and want her for that, because of her back issue, the adopter will need to have the experience of having a downed dog and know how to express a bladder. If you do not have this experience, then please do not apply. If you have the experience and would like more information before applying for her, you can email her foster mom at aadrpresident@gmail.com, and she’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.    ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. She is a little girl who follows the beat of her own drum. She likes to get her own way, and by some people's standards, she may be considered stubborn. She's definitely a Dachshund in that regard! She enjoys lounging and being loved on. She is particularly food-driven and can learn quickly with training rewards of treats. She settles into her environment quickly as she learns her way around. Dixie would be best as an only pet so she can soak up all the attention and snuggles.BIO:  Dixie came to us after her owner went into a nursing home, and the rest of the family did not want her because she is blind. She came to us overweight and with infected feet. We have cleared up her infected feet, and she has started to lose weight. She was also limping, so we have given her a Libela shot for her Arthritis, and she will need that monthly. At some point, we feel the owner had taken good care of her because she only lost one tooth during her dental visit with us.  Dixie is a sweet girl overall, but can be a bit grumpy when you want her to do something she does not want to do. That is when we put a slip leash on her, and she knows she must do what we ask. All in all, Dixie is an easy dog; she sleeps, goes out to potty, comes back in, curls up in a doggie bed, and goes back to sleep. The only time she really gets excited is when she can smell her food being prepared. We will send her with a slow-feed bowl to help her slow down and enjoy her food. Her foster mom will be happy to answer any questions you may have about Dixie; just email her at aadrpresident@gmail.com. She is a sweet girl and deserves a last wonderful forever home... please help her find that!   ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Ollie came from an illegal breeder, so he was not socialized and is scared of new things and people. His adopter will need to be patient with him as he gets comfortable in his new world. When he came to us, it took him several days to eat, get comfortable, and wag his tail when we would come home or into the room. Now that he has been with us for a while, he 'growl talks' to us with his tail wagging; how cool is that?! He gets along with the female dogs in his foster home and will play some, but he is more interested in his foster mom or dad giving him attention. Ollie does not do well with male dogs. He needs to be an only dog or possibly be with a small, young, female dog. Our must-haves for adorable Ollie include: A fenced yard He can be an only dog, but the new owners must have someone who is home more often than not No cats, big dogs, or male dogs He can have another small, young, female dog for a companion when he wants to play No apartment, condos, or high-rises If you see the possibility of him being your best friend, then take a chance; you will not be sorry.  He really is a joy to have as a foster!    ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
