Story
September 8, 2025, 1:38 pm Amy has been with us at the shelter for a little over six months now. She is very scared and timid; however, she has been gradually warming up to us. She is in a kennel with another dog her size and does well with her. We would love to get her into a home that would allow her to take the time she needs to warm up, we hope that once out of the shelter, she will be able to open up and have a wonderful life.

He is still learning what it is like to be a pet. This is where you come in, patience is the key to Samson’s heart. We can tell he wants hugs and kisses but he is just not sure. Remember breeder dogs are not shown attention like other puppies that go into people’s homes so he must warm to the idea of being a pet but he still has a ways to go. Can you help him? After we have had him for a bit, we realize that he really does not need a fenced yard because he really does not care to be outside especially in the cold and rain. So, you would have to be committed to walking him on a leash. If you just let him out without a leash he would run off and we don’t want that phone call, ever! Samson is not a barker so he can be in an apartment or condo, ground floor. He says he would also prefer a warmer climate than here in Tennessee! Our must haves for Samson are: • Ground floor apartment or condo • Someone home more than not • Another adult small dog for him to hang with • Someone that is patient and has breeder dog experience If you meet these requirements then make Samson’s wish come to for a home for spring. Apply online on our website, Samson says he’s waiting for YOU. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.

Sadie has been in foster care for a few weeks, and she has adapted so well, she is a simple joy to have in my home.  She gets along well with my two dachshunds and enjoys spending quiet evenings on the couch.  Sadie is still nervous around unfamiliar people and prefers to not be around little people.  She drags her bed from room to room depending on where the sun is shining, sleeps in the big bed, and loves Cheerios.  When Sadie is scared her first reaction is to flee, she must be kept on a leach for her safety.  She is a beautiful girl and is looking for someone to call her own.  Please email her foster mom at allamericandachshundrescue@gmail.com if you have any questions. BIO:  Sadie came from Tennessee, and her life up to now has not been great. She came from a breeding situation and was not socialized, but when she could not carry her babies to full term, she was taken to a flea market to be sold. Her most recent owner took pity on her and bought her, but misfortune struck her again. We will only disclose what happened to her owner to the approved adopter. Please help Sadie turn her misfortune into fortune and have a happy forever after. Sadie is a very sweet girl, but at first, she is very timid and must know that she can trust you. It only takes a little time and patience, and she will be your happy companion. She needs kindness... can you give that to her? Our must-haves for sweet Sadie include: A fenced yard Another young, small dog for her to play with and hang with Someone who can be home more often than not No apartments, high-rises, or condos Don’t wait to consider this girl; she really is a diamond in the rough. Please let her prove that to you. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Luke came into rescue overweight.  He has lost some weight, but he may need to lose another pound or two after he is adopted. He really is a sweet, happy boy.  He loves to be outside and will do zoomies out in the yard in the morning.  We do know that he does not like going to the vet to get his nails trimmed and a muzzle must be used. We also know that he doesn’t care for strangers.  New people coming into the home would need to be made aware of this and not just walk in.   Therefore, we think a quieter home would be best for him, one with few visitors.  Taking Luke out for walks and to non-stressful environments, such as PetSmart, would be great for him. If you are looking for a standard, then here is your chance. Please help Luke find his last forever home. Britta loves to be cuddled and covered up and sleeping next to you. She is puppy pad trained but will need you to work with her on house breaking.  She barks when she knows it is time to eat and she hears the rest of the fosters in the foster home start to bark for dinner or breakfast. She has never been around a cat, so she does not even know what they are. She has never been around another young small dog so has not learned to play but does play with toys, or you, so please be willing to play with her. What Britta needs is someone that can spend the time and have patience with her to show her the world. She is the sweetest little girl, but it is time she finds her own home.  She will be your heart. While we do not feel she needs a fenced in yard, it is necessary that she has you out there with her at all times. While she will not run, she will wander and that would get her in trouble so a harness and leash would be BEST. We would like her to go to the states from TN or further south because she has not been out in the cold. Yes, she is cute but think about this if you don’t have the time then she would not be a good fit for your home. Our must haves for Britta are Someone home more than not Another young small dog for her to learn from Someone who will be patient with her and has the time to housebreak her Someone who will teach her leash walking If you have experience with blind dogs that is a plus. If you’d like more info on sweet Britta, please feel welcome to email her foster mom.  ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. She came to us overweight and with infected feet. We have cleared up her infected feet, and she has started to lose weight. She was also limping, so we have given her a Libela shot for her Arthritis, and she will need that monthly. At some point we feel the owner took good care of her because she only lost one tooth at her dental with us.  Dixie is a sweet girl overall but can be a bit grumpy when you want her to do something she does not want to do. That is when we put a slip leash on her and she knows she must do what we ask. All in all, Dixie is an easy dog; she sleeps, goes out to potty, comes back in, curls up in a doggie bed, and goes back to sleep. The only time she really gets excited is when she can smell her food being prepared. We will send her with a slow-feed bowl to help her slow down and enjoy her food. Her foster mom will be happy to answer any questions you may have about Dixie; just email her at aadrpresident@gmail.com. She is a sweet girl and deserves a last wonderful forever home... please help her find that!   ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
