VACAY UPDATE (3/31/25):  Hey, guys! It’s your boy Ace! I just returned from a fantastic vacation. So much fun! Did some cart cruisin’, duck chasin’, and just chillin’ in the cabana. I enjoyed walking on the beach while flyin’ my “Adopt Me” flag to let everyone (especially the chicks) know I am available. I love the sun and spent a lot of time working on my tan. What a great time! Check out all my photos. But all was not fun and frivolity, I was responsible for driving the RV, of course.  Foster Mom had to keep me tethered to my seat while I was not driving. I was so excited to be on the road; I wanted to be all over the place.  If you are up for adventure, I am your man. I’ve still got things to learn so I can be your co-pilot or navigator, but I would love to give it my best shot just so I can be with you. As much as I like experiencing new places, what I want most is that one place to call home, my very own forever home. Could we do that? Love, Ace UPDATE:  Hi, Ace here! I wanted to give you a little update on how I am doing. I am getting to play every day with my Foster Sister and having so much fun! Every now and then she lets me know that she doesn't want to play, and I back off. When we take a break from playing, I get to snuggle with my Foster Siblings under a blanket, and I just love it. I don't stay long because something always distracts me, and I just have to check it out. As my Foster Mom says, I am nosy, or you could say a lot curious. I like it here but would really like to find my furever home. I want someone who will love me forever because I will love them forever! I really like to play, so I need a brother or sister who will play with me. And look at me... why wouldn't you want someone this handsome?! If you think we could spend the rest of our lives together, please complete an application. I am waiting for you! BIO:  Ace was returned by his original home to the breeder because he snapped at a small child. The breeder then asked AADR to help find Ace his perfect forever home. He loves to play, so he would need a home with another dog his size who also loves to play. He will sit in your lap until something else gets his attention. He loves being under a blanket with his foster siblings, so I’m sure he would like to snuggle with a new brother or sister. Mr. Ace is a very nosy boy, so he is constantly checking things out. He does not like loud noises such as a vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, paper shredder, etc. He will bark at them until he has barked them into submission, and they go silent. He is working on house training and now goes out the doggie door by himself but still has accidents. If you are an active adult with children over 10 and looking for an active and lovable dog, Ace may be the guy for you. Our must-haves for adorable Ace include: A fenced yard Another small to medium young dog for him to play with Someone who is home more often than not No condos, high-rises, or apartments due to possible barking If you want to know more about Ace, complete our online adoption application, and we’ll be happy to talk to you about this sweet boy.    ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. He loves his foster mom and will follow her everywhere and is the happiest when she is sitting and watching TV so he can snuggle with her. If you are a single woman and looking for love then Cody is definitely your man.Cody is a retired breeder dog and he will need time to adjust to being a pet. It is very important that he goes to a home with another well-socialized small dog that he can learn from what it’s about to be a pet and not to be afraid of new things. If you are truly looking to “rescue” a pet, Cody is your guy. He will need patience, love, and an understanding that this will not happen overnight. It would be really great if someone with breeder dog experience would come forward to adopt him. Yes, it’ll take work and time, but the rewards are great when you see the first time he wags his tail at you, or comes running when you get home, or better yet, when he climbs in your lap. He is the true rescue story. So if you have what it takes, please apply, but if you just are not sure you want to take on a project like Cody, please pass on him. BUT if you do, you won’t regret your decision and will make his days so much brighter. Our must-haves for precious Cody include: Must have another young, small, well-socialized dog for him to play with and learn from or can be an only dog if adopter has “breeder dog” experience A fenced yard Someone who is home more often than not Someone willing to put in the work to make him the pet he wants to be No apartments, high-rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Winston was not well socialized and is anxious about loud noises and strange people. For this reason, we have him in training to help him with new people and everyday situations. We want to keep him in neighboring states so he can be picked up from the trainer, and she can help them should they need help with him if he backslides. In his foster home, he is a great dog, happy, and loves to play with his foster people and the foster female. We are unsure about male dogs; that is to be determined with the trainer, who he will go to on the 29th. He is a small standard wire, and we think he would do great with another small to medium-sized female. Gunter has two foster siblings which he follows around but doesn't really play with.  He will carry a squeaky toy around like a prize. Gunter has been around his two foster siblings (Chihuahuas) and a few other dogs.  He doesn't seem to mind any of them.  He's also been around our cat which he has a no interest in. He sleeps all night in his kennel and curls up and sleeps in his seat on car rides.  Gunter goes to work with me every day and is as quiet as a mouse.  He doesn't chew on things or get into anything. With his fur being a blue and tan-dilute he does have some pattern baldness and will be prone to sunburn so t-shirts or manly muscle shirts should be a part of his wardrobe.  In winter, Gunter will be more sensitive to cold temperatures than other dogs and would need to wear coats and sweaters.   But hey, dressing your pup in cute shirts and sweaters is just one of the fun things about having a Doxie! Our must haves for Gunter are: fenced in yard  another younger to adult well-socialized dog for Gunter to hang with.  NO big dogs he's never been around them someone with breeder dog experience is a plus no apartment, high rises or condos, please Gunter is a very well-behaved dog and would be perfect for someone who wants a constant companion. ============= Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Max is a small standard with a zest for life.  He is sweet and calm - an ideal partner for relaxing nights in or long walks through the neighborhood.  He adores spending time with you, always by your side and eager to soak up every moment.  You’ll quickly find that you’re the most fascinating person in his world! This lovable pup is already housebroken and accustomed to using a doggie door.  He’s intelligent and quick to learn, responding well to commands.  Max enjoys cozy cuddle sessions while you watch TV, read or meditate, often snuggling under the covers at bedtime before migrating to his favorite cushy chair or dog bed for a good night’s sleep.  One of Max’s endearing quirks is his playful obsession with his toys.  He loves to carry them around squeaking and chewing as he goes and will happily decorate your living space with them. Unlike other dachshunds, Max isn’t inclined to destroy his toys - he simply enjoys their company! When it’s time for walks, Max approaches the world with uncontainable excitement making it feel like you’re pulling a sled full of happy huskies.  With some patience and training, he can learn to walk more calmly on a leash ensuring enjoyable outings for both of you. No dog is perfect, but Max comes remarkably close.  He was cherished by his previous owners and is now ready to share that love with his forever family.  If you’re looking to add a warm, wonderful companion to your life and have the time and energy to help Max enjoy the great outdoors, we encourage you to apply to adopt him. Gunter has been around his two foster siblings (Chihuahuas) and a few other dogs.  He doesn't seem to mind any of them.  He's also been around our cat which he has a no interest in. Our must-haves for fun-loving Max include: A fenced yard is a must Another smaller young dog for him to play with as he does love to play with other dogs and toys Someone who can be home some with him or work from home The adopter must be active; no couch potatoes need apply No apartments, high-rises, or condos If you meet these requirements and want to add to your pack, then now is the time to apply for Max ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
