Story
Meet Canela — a stunning young Doberman with a heart as sweet as her name. This gentle girl has a soft spirit and soulful eyes that seem to ask for just one thing: love. Though she’s a little shy at first, once she feels safe, Canela leans in for affection and soaks up every bit of kindness offered her way.Life hasn’t always been easy for Canela. She was kept outdoors, and her coat tells the story of a girl who’s weathered more than her fair share. But those days are behind her now — and she’s ready to start a new chapter as a cherished family member.Canela is still learning to feel comfortable around other dogs and would thrive in a calm home where she can take her time to adjust. What she wants most is a person who will show her that she never has to be cold or lonely again. It’s easy to see why she’s a volunteer favorite — her quiet sweetness wins everyone over. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who just needs a little patience and a lot of heart, Canela is waiting to meet you. She’s ready to trade her rough past for a future filled with warmth, comfort, and love.Canela recently met some social dogs at our shelter and did fine.  She was scared of the other dogs and just kept close to the people in the pen. She wasn’t ready to play, but we hope that as she gets more experience in our shelter playgroups, she’ll be ready to show us her silly side with other dogs.  Looking for a buddy for your dog?  Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we`re a match!  Check out her playgroup video here:To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Story
We adopted Rosco from our local shelter after having our previously beloved dog euthanized for a terminal illness. We think he is about 2 or 2 1/2 years old. My husband and I are both 83 years old and Rosco needs a younger family that can give him the training he needs. He is a loving dog and very people friendly. He's currently on anti-anxiety and calming meds.

Story
Meet Dobbie the Dobie – A Resilient Tripod with a Heart of Gold Dobbie is a sweet, sensitive boy who’s been through a lot. After a traumatic injury, he had one of his legs amputated — but he’s healing beautifully and adjusting to life on three legs with quiet bravery. He’s currently in a foster home where he's learning that the world can be safe and kind. Dobbie is gentle and loving, but emotionally sensitive. Loud noises and quick movements scare him, so he needs a calm, quiet home with trauma-informed, patient guardians. Ideal Home: Quiet, predictable environment No small children Carpet or rugs preferred (he struggles on hardwood) Prior dog experience highly recommended A ramp for car access would help With Others: Dog-friendly with proper introductions Shy but kind with strangers (needs slow approaches) Not a fan of head or body pets — prefers gentle chin rubs Needs continued positive reinforcement training Dobbie has shown some separation anxiety and does best crated when alone. He’s potty trained but may mark when adjusting to a new space. Dobbie is truly special. With the right home, he’ll flourish into a loyal, loving companion. Are you the one to give him his second chance?

Story
Courtesy Post – Meet Ace!   NOTE: THIS DOG IS NOT AT THE SHELTER Ace is a stunning 1-year-old Doberman Pinscher who is looking for a loving, active home where he can get the attention, companionship, and continued training he needs to thrive. His current family is heartbroken to rehome him but due to housing limitations and busy work/school schedules, they are no longer able to give Ace the time and care he deserves. Ace is: Neutered and up to date on vaccines Potty trained and crate trained Friendly with children and has lived with other dogs Allows people to take food and toys without issue Ace has been raised both indoors and outdoors, and while he’s alert and protective by nature—true to his breed—he’s also social and curious. He may bark when people approach the home, but once introduced, he is calm and even allows visitors to pet him. He's been well-loved and shows great potential in the right environment. Note on behavior: Ace had one incident on a hike where someone approached him while he was tethered and entered his personal space. He lunged and caused a minor scratch. The person did not require stitches. He has not shown ongoing aggression and has otherwise been friendly and manageable. Ace would do best in a home that understands the Doberman breed’s need for structure, exercise, and mental stimulation. His current owner feels he would benefit greatly from having another dog companion, as he enjoys the company and playtime. If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent, and protective pup to add to your home—and you have the time and commitment to support his growth—Ace might be the perfect match. This is a courtesy post to help him find a safe and loving new home. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months).    All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control.
