Story
Adoption fee: $375 Physical appearance: Drake is a 15-month-old male Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail.  He's average size for a male weighing in at 85lbs. Personality: Drake is a sweet dog, but he needs consistent boundaries and structure.  He loves people and can do well with other dogs when slowly and properly introduced as he can get a bit excited initially.  Absolutely no other male dogs as he will not back down from a challenge.  He has shown resource guarding of furniture and absolutely cannot be allowed on any furniture unless that right is earned.  While he is a sweet dog, he is not a couch-cuddling dog and you cannot hug him or get in his face.  While all Dobermans need a leader, this is extra true for Drake. Why he’s in rescue: Drake was originally in rescue after he was found in a landfill.  After no one came to claim him at animal control, he came to rescue.  Drake was originally adopted by a couple but was returned after his resource guarding was more than they could handle. Manners and training: We will not adopt Drake to a home that has not had experience with training a Doberman or other working breed before. Due to his resource guarding, he will also not be adopted to a home with kids because he absolutely will bite if he given too much freedom and allowed on furniture.  Drake has had some professional training and knows some commands.  He is also potty and crate trained and does well on a leash. Drake's perfect home is one that knows the breed and prefers the sharp personality of a Doberman that needs a job.  If you can be the leader Drake needs, he will follow you until the ends of the earth. Vetting: All our dogs are brought up to date on rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, neutered and microchipped before adoption.   ##1221199##

Story
Adoption fee: $250 Physical appearance: Toby is a 10-year-old male Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail.  He's a tall boy and weighs in at 90lbs. Personality: Toby is the definition of gentle giant.  He is sweet, calm and velcro.  Toby is most content being by your side or at your feet chewing his bone.  He is very sweet and patient with the min pin puppy in his foster home, even though she's way more energetic and playful than he is.  She gives him a bit of a pep in his step!  He has been sweet to and loved everyone he met, though sometimes he can take a minute to warm up. We have not had Toby around kids, so will not adopt to a home with small kids, but older children will be fine.  If you're looking for a sweet, cuddly love bug that doesn't need much exercise and won't tear up your home, Toby is your guy! Why he’s in rescue: When his owner went to jail, Toby was left behind all alone.  Animal control took ownership of him and asked for us to take him in and find him a new home. Manners and training: Toby is crate trained, potty trained, and very well-mannered in the home. He likes his crate and will go lay down inside for a nap or to just chill out.  He has not been destructive, and he does not seem to know any commands like sit, lay down, or stay but you can absolutely teach an old dog new tricks! Vetting: All our dogs are brought up to date on rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, neutered and microchipped before adoption.  Since Toby is an older dog, he does have some arthritis in his hips.  His ideal home would be on without too many stairs. ##1559519##

Doberman Pinscher

Female, 9 yrs

Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Adoption fee: $200 Physical appearance: Riley is an 8-year-old, black and tan female Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail.  She's average size for a female weighing 65lbs. Personality: Riley is a sweetheart with a smile that melts even the coldest hearts.  She is goofy, playful, and loving. Riley had an injury to one of her back legs when she was younger, and it never healed correctly.  While it doesn't slow her down much, it can cause her some pain and discomfort and she'll take a bit more time to do things like potty, lay down and get up.  She can also be a bit defensive over being touched around the area, so no homes with small kids will be considered. She has also become possessive over toys with her foster siblings, so no other dogs.  She seems to have a prey drive, so no cats either.  Riley just needs a calm, cuddly home as an only pet with no kids. Snuggling is her favorite and she will come up and put her chin on your leg to get petted. This usually leads to her climbing into your lap, but sometimes she gets stuck because of her rear leg and needs help. Because she can be defensive over her leg, the best way to help her up is to pick yout knee up after she gets her body on your knee, which helps her enough to make it all the way. If you try and help her another way she may growl defensively. She will stay in your lap and change position several times until she wants to get down. Why she’s in rescue: Riley was dumped in the shelter when her former owner lost his job and had to move in with a family member.  The family remember refused to have her in the home and made him get rid of her. Manners and training: Riley is well behaved, potty trained, and crate trained.  She knows how to sit and lay down but laying down does take some effort because of her leg. While she's not destructive, she is a barker, so no apartments.  She's alert and will make sure you know everything and anything that is going on outside. Vetting: All our dogs are brought up to date on rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, neutered and microchipped before adoption. Riley's leg does not require any medication or future vet care, but it is recommended you give her Dasuquin to help with her bones.  This can be purchased at just about any pet store. ##1560165##

Doberman Pinscher

Female, 7 yrs 1 mo , Special Needs
Douglasville, GA
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)

Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Adoption fee: $300 Physical appearance: Kali is a 6-year-old, black and tan, female Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail. She is a big girl at 90 pounds. Kali was born with one eye that is smaller than the other, a condition called uveitis that has caused blindness in that eye, and she will require daily eye medication to keep her comfortable. Personality, Manners, and Training: Kali was previously adopted from GDR but was returned due to changing family circumstances. This girl is an A-class snuggler and LOVES her people. She is a wonderful family dog who does great with kids. Kali has energy and will run and play as much as you let her so she needs a real outlet for her energy. She loves playing with tennis balls and other toys. Sometimes she will bark and whine to protest not getting her way, so she won't be good for an apartment, townhome, or condo. She needs someone who won't give into her every protest or just let her do whatever she wants. She knows how to sit and wait patiently for her dinner until you tell her to eat, and she is crate trained, but she will try to convince you that she isn't. Her leash training could use some work. She gets along with other dogs, but needs a slow and careful introduction. She also gets along with cats and even rabbits.  Vetting: All our dogs are brought up to date on Rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, spayed, and microchipped before adoption. ##127561##

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Adoption fee: $300 Physical appearance: Suga is a 5-and-a-half-year-old female Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail.  She's a big girl weighing in at 81lbs. Personality: Suga is a velcro lap dog that lives for attention.  So much so that if she is not crated when you are around, she can display some separation anxiety and be destructive.  She is also very high energy and needs someone who will exercise her body and mind. We highly recommend training classes since she loves to learn and they will help engage her mind.  She would do best as an only dog as she can get jealous of other dogs getting affection by her owner.  Not kept in check this could lead to resource guarding her owner, so we want to prevent that.  We will consider a home with another dog only if the adopter has experience with Dobermans and sets clear boundaries to curb this behavior.  She is learning not to jump up, but old habits are proving hard to break, and since she can knock back her foster dad, we will not adopt her to a home with small children.  She has not shown any issues with the cat in the home, so indoor kitty friends would be fine. Why she’s in rescue: Suga was surrendered to GDR when her owner’s health declined.  She had been living outside with 2 other Dobermans and was not used to living indoors. Manners and training: Suga is crate trained and potty trained and her foster recommends an airline crate since she's so strong that she could likely break a wire crate if she tried.  She does need to be crated since she will be destructive outside of the crate if her family is not home and suffers from some seperation anxiety. She has learned to sit and lay down but still pulls on the leash. Suga is NOT a candidate for doggy day care as she is very picky about her dog friends.  Ideally her new family can work with her through her seperation anxiety and will use an airline crate to help her safe and comfortable when they have to go out. Vetting: All our dogs are brought up to date on rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, spayed and microchipped before adoption.   ##1442315##

Story
Meet Pop Tart! This gorgeous girl had a rough start with AARF. After spending nearly a month at animal control, she was attacked by her kennel mates at the shelter. Her injuries needed immediate vet care, and she spent the first 2 weeks of her time out of animal control at the vet's office. After battling a bad case of kennel cough and a long recovery from her injuries, Pop Tart is now happy and healthy and ready to find her forever home. Our best guess is that she is a red Doberman / pit bull mix, which means she is incredibly athletic, sweet and snuggly and very loyal. Pop Tart seems to be a little too interested in cats and other small critters, so would do best in a home without small furry friends. She needs an active family, one that up for daily playtime and some adventures! Pop Tart is completely house and crate trained and already knows 'sit' and 'shake'. She loves to play, but also enjoys a good snuggle on the couch in the evening. If you think Pop Tart would be a good fit for your family, fill out an application today! Pop Tart has Paw Pals: Terry and Jean K of Atlanta, GA!June 1, 2023, 12:02 pm
