Story
Ayla is a beautiful loving girl who is incredibly loyal and amazing with children. She has a wonderful spirit and loves fiercely. We got her while I was pregnant from a family on kijij who told us that she was a mastiff lab mix which would have been a perfect mix for a family with a new baby. We fell in love with her immediately and she never leaves our side. We have had her for 2 years now and as she grew we realized that she was in no way the breed we thought. After some research and dealing with trainers we discovered that she is actually a vizsla terrier mix and being that blend requires way more from us than we can give. She needs someone who has the time to properly train her and give her the exercise she needs to keep her happy and calm. Because we don’t have the time to give her those things, she is quite anxious and has a tendency to bark at everything. When we do find time to train her she learns quickly and retains but we cannot give her the consistency she needs.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sandy and her siblings were saved from a high-kill shelter in Calfornia and arrived at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine on Wednesday 3rd August. We post our available dogs in states across the East Coast and Canada to reach as many people as possible in hopes of finding perfect homes and families. We do not transport dogs — families must come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet and, hopefully, take home their new best friend. Health & Background &#226&#156&#133 Spayed &#226&#156&#133 Rabies and core vaccines up to date &#226&#156&#133 On monthly flea/tick preventatives &#226&#156&#133 Microchipped &#226&#154&#150&#239&#184&#143 Weight: 55-65 lbs  Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 After a devastating fire at the rescue on 20 January, SANDY went to a foster family in southern Maine on 24th January. This is what her foster family has said about her: Terra (aka Sandy) has been fostering with us for a little over two weeks now and is still waiting to hear from her forever family.   She has continued working on her training and now (mostly) knows sit, lay down, come, stay, leave it - and her release word, "break." She has gotten pretty consistent with her commands in our home environment -- for instance, she is told to sit and stay when we give her a meal, and will wait to move to her bowl and eat until told to 'break.' However, Terra needs to continue working on her commands in distracting situations - like when she's excited when we've come back home from errands or when out in the yard when all she really wants to do is play!   Terra is now walking better on a leash when I've got her outside on her own. She is responsive to correction if she starts to pull and is much better about not circling me and wrapping the leash around me. However, it's been much harder to get this same good leash behavior from her when she is getting walked alongside our dog, Apollo, who she wants to keep up with and know what fun scent he's found to sniff.   Apollo has been gradually accepting Terra more and more. While he still gets jealous of her while in the house sometimes, for the past week they have even been having a blast playing together in the yard multiple times a day, running around and leaping through the snow and having a blast. It's been so nice to see her wonderful and loving self break down the walls of our dog with serious only-child syndrome!   Terra rides wonderfully in the car. She recently went in the backseat together with Apollo for a 15 minute or so drive to take a walk on a preserve in the next town. We were more worried about how Apollo would tolerate sharing the backseat, but they thankfully did great together!   I can't say enough about what a sweetheart this little girl is. She's a lovely balance of cuddly, playful, and peaceful. Offer her a hug and into your arms she'll climb. When she's feeling in the mood she'll trot up with her tail wagging and give you a nudge, telling you she's ready for something to play with! Rope toys, stuffed toys, rubbery toys -- she's loved them all. And she's been a peaceful companion for long stretches of time when I'm reading, watching something, or sitting at my desk. Fortunately the kennel building was not affected by the fire, however, access to water and septic was lost making the kennels not useable. Many people stepped up to foster and a boarding and day care kennels in Bangor also reached out to offer to take some dogs and they took Cruz and his girl riends Clara Belle and Ryder Girl. They have been at the boarding kennels since the end of January and have been doing great, the staff love having them saying they are wonderful and sweet, they have met children and have been great around them, they are well mannered and ride great in the car. CRUZ is a sweet love bug, he has so much affection, he loves to wrestle and chase with his friends and then snuggle up or hang out when they need to recharge their batteries. He loves everyone he meets and would be very responsive to training. With an active family he would thrive.
