Story
Name: Gamora Female DSH Black with White Approx 1 year old FIV+ Gamora is an incredibly affectionate momma. She will follow you around the house and she loves to just exist in the same room as you. She loves to be pet and she'll do whatever you want for a Churu. She is FIV positive and a little combative with other cats but with a slow introduction she could definitely live a long and healthy life with other cats. Location: in foster Medical: Because Gamora is FIV positive, she needs a low stress environment, quality food, exams at least yearly and proactive veterinary care to ensure she stays healthy. Because she has a compromised immune system, she's not the type of cat that you try the "wait it out" approach if she's sick. Although FIV cats can be more prone to certain medical diseases, they more often than not live completely normal lives compared to their counterparts. As medicine has advanced, we now know that having FIV is not at all a death sentence like it had been treated as previously. These cats live comparable lives to non FIV positive cats and deserve a home and love all the same. We highly recommend finding a veterinarian who is comfortable with and knowledgeable about FIV. Depending on their clients, FIV may not be something that every veterinarian sees regularly in their practice, so it can be daunting and they may not be familiar with the most recent guidelines for FIV cats and how they can live normal and healthy lives. You can learn more about FIV through the American Association of Feline Practitioners' Feline Retrovirus Management Guidelines or from the Feline Veterinary Medicine Association's website and brochures such as this one! https://catvets.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/FelineVMA_FeLV-and-FIV-Broch_Web.2.pdf All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and de-wormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption.
