Story
Spike aka Spicy Boi came into my care from a friend who could no longer care for him. Instead of him going to a shelter, I took him in. However he and my other 2 cats do not get along. So he is stuck in one room all day while I'm at work. And all of them are stressed out. I would like to get Spike in a home with an experienced cat owner, possibly with a dog, where he can get the enrichment and attention he deserves. He had a former doggy playmate at his old home. So, I believe he will be good with small/medium dogs. As he likes to play and rough house. He gets separation anxiety. And will occasionally bite and scratch when stressed. But he is still a sweet boy who will show you lots of affection, once he knows you.

Story
Meet Loretta, the young and lively feline with silky black fur and distinctive white marking on her belly. She is curious and engaging, liking nothing more than being near her human and getting a nice cuddle. Loretta is an exceptionally friendly cat, always the first to greet newcomers, both feline and human. Her gentle nature is a balm to those around her and nothing much fazes her once she is comfortable in her environment. Loretta's sociability is her most endearing trait, always ready to engage in a playful bout or a quiet cuddle. Adopting Loretta would mean welcoming a bundle of joy and warmth into your home, a companion who would make every day brighter with her playful antics and loving purrs. She has come a long way from her feral beginnings in a woodpile and would do well either as a solo adoption or with one of her siblings (see Johnny, June & Dolly).

Story
Meet June, a beautiful girl with smoky, gray fur along her belly and a distinctive tail and a heart full of love. Her demeanor is a blend of sweetness and shyness, making her a perfect companion for those seeking a gentle friend. June's intelligence is unmistakable; she's quick to figure out puzzles and loves to explore. Her curiosity is endless, always eager to learn about her surroundings. Among her favorite activities is stretching out and enjoying TV time with her human. She is a curious girl who likes windows, sun and watching the world go by. June's tail, striped like a raccoon's, is a charming part of her unique personality. While she may be shy initially, once she warms up to you, her affectionate side shines through. June is looking for a forever home where she can continue to grow, learn, and love. She would do well as a solo adoption or with one of her siblings (see Johnny, Loretta & Dolly). Her adoption would mean a lifetime of shared adventures, cuddles, and mutual respect. If you're looking for a loyal, intelligent, and loving companion, June is the cat for you.

Story
Meet Hyde, a regal and charming gentleman with a heart of gold! This sweet, sophisticated boy is a true cat-dog, having been raised in close quarters with a large, spirited canine companion. As a result, Hyde adores being around dogs and thrives best with a trainable, cat-friendly pooch. His past experiences have made him quite the dog-loving feline, so he's sure to bring joy and harmony to a home with a compatible dog or cat. Hyde is the epitome of independent grace and would flourish in a calm environment with older children or just adults. His personality shines brightest when he's in a space where he can enjoy his personal space without feeling overwhelmed. Though he's a sassy, loving companion, he prefers to be admired from a respectful distance, so a cat-savvy owner who understands feline body language and feline needs will be his ideal match. With all of this in mind Hyde is very loving, enjoys his foster parents, and looks forward to bed time each night at the foot of the human bed. This dashing kitty also sports a luscious coat that requires regular brushing to keep it in top-notch condition and to prevent matting again. If you're looking for a distinguished, affectionate feline friend who enjoys a balance of companionship and independence, Hyde is the perfect choice. With his regal demeanor and loving nature, he's ready to become the treasured prince of his forever home! Due to Hyde's social nature he must be adopted to a home with another cat and/or dog. Did we mention he LOVES dogs?!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Like a properly brewed cup of tea, handsome Earl Grey is at once subtle and commanding, a full-bodied guy with a gentle, unassuming personality. For years, Earl Grey remained fearful of people, preferring to hang back on the perimeters of the outside enclosure. When a new enclosure was constructed for our more shy kitties at the refuge, Earl Grey was relocated by the staff in hopes he’d make some gradual progress with socialization. And what a difference it has made! Earl Grey hangs out in the main room of the adoption building a good bit now, waiting on feeding times. A couple of our dedicated volunteers have made efforts to interact with him on a regular basis, and he now allows gentle pets from those who’ve showed him consistent kindness and patience, and we look forward to seeing him continue to gradually come out of his shell.Earl Grey is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. The home environment needs to be peaceful and tranquil, with no children under the age of 16. In addition to unrestricted access to a warm, safe home environment, Earl Grey also requires safe restricted access to the outdoors - for example, a screened porch or safe outdoor area with cat-proof fencing. If you would like to meet him, please schedule an appointment to meet him in person and our volunteers would be happy to initiate an introduction. Approx DOB: 11/14/2013

Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Nala was found abandoned with her four tiny kittens at a vet's office in Mt. Airy, NC. Luckily, the refuge was contacted about their rescue, and Nala and her babies were lovingly cared for by one of our wonderful foster families to ensure they all received plenty of individualized care. Nala is a beautiful long-haired tabby girl: a rare occurrence since most orange tabbies are males! She is extremely shy and cautious around new people and can often be found hanging out around our shy cat room where she enjoys the many perches and the extra layer of security offered by this quieter, low traffic space. Nala is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. The home environment needs to be peaceful and tranquil, with no children under the age of 16. If you would like to meet Nala, please stop by for a visit during our visiting hours Friday-Sunday between 11 AM-3 PM and our volunteers would be happy to initiate an introduction. Approx. DOB: 07/11/2015If interested in adopting from the Goathouse Refuge, please plan to take the following steps required in our adoption process:1. Come for a Visit: We are open 11am - 3 PM Saturday and Sunday. Fridays are by appointment. 2. Complete our online application: Visit our website (click link above or go to www.goathouserefuge.org under the 'adopt' tab).3. Home Visit: All adoption applications will be reviewed by the refuge staff, and if the applicant seems to be a good fit for the cat(s) of interest, the refuge will contact the interested party to set up a home visit. Only after a representative of the refuge conducts a home visit will the refuge then consider continuing with the adoption process.
