Story
Charm was living outside and came to Heartland very scared and stressed.  Her mouth was in very bad decay so she was also in pain.  Charm was seen by our vet who did a full mouth extraction, relieving her pain and allowing her to focus on the perks of being an indoor kitty. Charm took a couple of months to warm up to her foster mom, but once trust was gained, her sweet and loving personality came through.  She now loves attention and can eat food just fine. Charm is spayed, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV, has been flea and parasite treated and is current on vaccinations.  She did test positive for FIV.  FIV kitties can live a normal, long life as long as they are kept indoors and given medical treatment if early signs of illness are shown.  Their immune system is not as strong so illness needs to be treated early.  FIV kitties can live with non-FIV kitties just fine as long as they are not aggressive, as FIV can be transmitted through a deep bite that draws blood.  FIV kitties do not require any daily meds or special food. Charm can eat normal cat food and is especially drawn to wet food.  She doesn't seem to mind cat friendly dogs.  HHS12989LH    May 6, 2024, 10:03 pm

Story
Meet Hollister - this handsome fella was adopted from us as a kitten and recently returned because his mom lost her home.  Hollister has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), or wobbly kitten syndrome.  CH is condition where a kitten’s brain does not fully develop due to a viral infection in the mother cat.  As a result, they experience wobbliness and uncoordinated movement.  There is no cure, but it doesn't not affect their overall health and they can still live long, happy lives without issue.  Hollister is moderately CH; he does fall occasionally and is pretty wobbly, but gets around just fine and uses the litter box without problem.   Hollister is a very sweet boy but is on the sensitive side and can become easily overwhelmed by too much activity around him, likely because of his balance issues.  He would do best in a quieter home without children.  He lives with other cats and does fine with them for the most part, but he can be easily intimidated so a calm, gentle and mellow kitty friend would be best.  Not sure about dogs.  Hollister loves to be petted and is quite affectionate.  He enjoys playing with toys but canned food is his favorite thing in the world.  He is neutered, chipped, current on vaccinations, negative for FeLV/FIV and recently had a dental with 6 teeth pulled.  DOB 4/1/15 - tag 9902. May 6, 2024, 10:03 pm

Story
Lionel is a very sweet little boy. He has preliminary tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and will need to be retested in six (6) months. Cats with FIV can live with other cats as long as all animals in the home are fixed. Kittens under 6 months' adoption fee is $110. Adult cats over 6 months' adoption fee is $85. The adoption package on all of our cats includes all of their initial vetting (FVRCP Vaccine(s), Rabies Vaccine(unless deemed too small by vaccinating vet), spay/neuter, FIV/FELV testing (heartworm testing where applicable only available at certain clinics), and microchipping. Also included is age appropriate dewormer and flea/tick preventative. All cats come with a 7-day health guarantee (must be redeemed at Pet Station in Union, MO). We DO NOT allow our cats to be declawed or outside. FIV FACTS- What is FIV? FIV stands for feline immunodeficiency virus. This virus compromises a cat's immune system, meaning it's easier for them to get sick and harder for them to fight off illness. It only affects cats (it can't be spread to people, dogs, or other types of pets). How do cats get FIV? FIV is spread through deep, penetrating bite wounds inflicted during serious fighting. It is not spread through casual contact such as shared food/water/litter, mutual grooming, or playing. Kittens may test positive due to maternal antibodies (rather than infection), but they will almost certainly test negative after 6 months of age. Can FIV+ cats live with negative cats? Yes! As long as the cats get along and don't fight, there is very little risk of transmission. Spaying or neutering decreases the risk of fighting, and introducing cats slowly helps them get along. How long do FIV+ cats live? Studies show that most FIV+ cats live normal lifespans and remain healthy. This doesn't mean they will never get sick, but with proper care, chances of illness are greatly reduced. Oral issues are the most common, but not all FIV+ cats experience them. Do FIV+ cats require special care? They have the same basic needs as any other cat: high quality nutrition, a clean, stress-free, strictly indoor environment, regular veterinary visits (two times per year to monitor for illness), and lots of love. Please consider opening up your heart and home to an FIV+ cat!

Story
Meet Orville Redenbacher! Orville is FIV Positive, must be indoor only. He is a super sweet boy who loves to cuddle, climb around on you, and give little headbutts, purring nonstop. He will give eskimo kisses and rub his face on your face. He will reach his paw up through the crate and softly pet your cheek and pull your hand over to him. He has some scuffs from life on the streets. He was a stray who ran away at the sight of people for a very long time. Once rescued, he immediately became a love bug. He deserves a wonderful family who will give him the love and attention that he missed out on for years. If you are the lucky one to adopt him, he will make you SO happy. He loves treats and eggs. If you are standing up holding him, when you start to set him down, he will cling to you and put his head on your shoulder. He has not shown much interest in toys yet. His adorable personality will come out so much more when he has his own home where he can run around and just be himself. He has not bitten or intentionally scratched anyone, but he is working on not using claws so much while climbing around and clinging onto you; this will improve with more attention, freedom, and training.
