Story
Charm was living outside and came to Heartland very scared and stressed.  Her mouth was in very bad decay so she was also in pain.  Charm was seen by our vet who did a full mouth extraction, relieving her pain and allowing her to focus on the perks of being an indoor kitty. Charm took a couple of months to warm up to her foster mom, but once trust was gained, her sweet and loving personality came through.  She now loves attention and can eat food just fine. Charm is spayed, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV, has been flea and parasite treated and is current on vaccinations.  She did test positive for FIV.  FIV kitties can live a normal, long life as long as they are kept indoors and given medical treatment if early signs of illness are shown.  Their immune system is not as strong so illness needs to be treated early.  FIV kitties can live with non-FIV kitties just fine as long as they are not aggressive, as FIV can be transmitted through a deep bite that draws blood.  FIV kitties do not require any daily meds or special food. Charm can eat normal cat food and is especially drawn to wet food.  She doesn't seem to mind cat friendly dogs.  HHS12989LH    November 5, 2024, 10:31 am

Story
Meet Hollister - this handsome fella was adopted from us as a kitten and recently returned because his mom lost her home.  Hollister has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), or wobbly kitten syndrome.  CH is condition where a kitten’s brain does not fully develop due to a viral infection in the mother cat.  As a result, they experience wobbliness and uncoordinated movement.  There is no cure, but it doesn't not affect their overall health and they can still live long, happy lives without issue.  Hollister is moderately CH; he does fall occasionally and is pretty wobbly, but gets around just fine and uses the litter box without problem.   Hollister is a very sweet boy but is on the sensitive side and can become easily overwhelmed by too much activity around him, likely because of his balance issues.  He would do best in a quieter home without children.  He lives with other cats and does fine with them for the most part, but he can be easily intimidated so a calm, gentle and mellow kitty friend would be best.  Not sure about dogs.  Hollister loves to be petted and is quite affectionate.  He enjoys playing with toys but canned food is his favorite thing in the world.  He is neutered, chipped, current on vaccinations, negative for FeLV/FIV and recently had a dental with 6 teeth pulled.  DOB 4/1/15 - tag 9902. November 5, 2024, 10:31 am

Story
This beautiful girl is a very "young" 14 years old and in good health...but my husband isn't. He has been highly allergic to cats for several years and we've tried to make it work but now it's getting into epipen territory. Harlow has lived with dogs and cats in her lifetime but we would prefer just a quiet place right now, not too much stress, no cats, dogs or kids. She loves sleeping with us, head buts me for head scratches, and generally keeps to herself during the day. She loves cozy places to sleep, and curls up next to me when watching TV. Harlow is in great shape, litter box trained, no special dietary needs and completed her senior well check no issues. Looking for someone who can love her as much as we have.

Story
This handsome handsome boy is Cassian, and his story is one of bravery and courage. This beautiful boy came to us in April with five other cats from a hoarding situation. When he arrived, he was in such rough shape that we thought he was at least eight years old, he's only two and a half. Cassian and his buddies were all covered in fleas and flea dirt, and they had patches of missing fur all over their bodies. He was very frightened, but his sweet and loving demeanor still came through. Four months later, and he's doing amazing! He's healthy, his coat is full and beautiful, and he's free roaming with all of his new friends! While he definitely isn't an extrovert, he still likes to meet new people at his own pace. He can frequently be found hanging out with his best friend, Mr. Green, and they like to do everything together, whether it be napping or grabbing a bite to eat, or playing with wand toys, Cassian loves to spend time with his feline friends, and has gotten along great with all of our other free roaming kitties! If you think he would make a great addition to your family come stop by and visit, or fill out an application on our website, www.fiveacresanimalshelter.org!
