Story
Big Personality, Heart of Gold, Golden Girl Even if you are gluten-free, this kind of Wheat is great for you! She likes pets and chin scratches and will rub up against you, give you headbutts with her super cute round head, purr, and turn happy circles around you. She will park herself near you and hang out, but she doesn't need to be in your lap; sitting quietly near her humans is enough for her! She can be super affectionate but doesn't need you to pet her all the time, and when she has had her Affection Fix, she will let you know. She is content having some alone time. Though a Golden Girl, she still likes to bat toy balls around and then chase them! And she is super curious, always interested in what is on the other side of that closed closet or bedroom door...? She can be chatty if she wants something, but she's generally quiet and self-sufficient. Fun fact: Her meow makes a kind of "gravelly" sound! Wheat was adopted as a kitten but recently returned to APA! when the toddler in her family developed cat allergies. With that, and other changes within the family, her people made the tough decision to give her a chance to find a home better suited for her; they felt she would no longer get the love and attention she deserved. So, we are looking to correct that for Wheat! In her previous home, Wheat was fearful and stressed with the introduction of the toddler, as well as meeting another cat and a dog; we think the best home for Wheat is with adults and young adults who can understand and respect her boundaries, is low-traffic and low-stress, and one where she is the only pet. This is where she will shine, cuddle, purr, and become the resident Couch Potato! Ms. Wheat didn't get to this age without forming some opinions about life and deciding what she likes and doesn't like. So, she has her opinions and preferences. She also needs to stay on a special urinary diet to prohibit kidney stones. Her food can be found in local shops as well as online. Questions? Just ask! Wheat has a thick black and white tuxedo and a pink nose with a black freckle! She's such a regal beauty. She simply needs people to give her time to settle in, some places to tuck herself into until she feels safe, and a home that respects her wishes and welcomes her affection. She is a wonderful cat looking for a wonderful home! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Wheat please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
Affectionate, Sweet, Charismatic If you're looking for paper products, you've got the wrong Dwight Schrute! But, if it's cuddles and affection you're after, you've come to the right place! Dwight is the biggest lap cat! This sweet boy loves getting pets and attention. He lets you know you're loved by giving gentle head boops and will snuggle up to your hands in hopes of snuggling up to the rest of you! Dwight's soft coat is a pretty mix of cream and dreamsicle, his sea green eyes are bright and kind. When he arrived at the shelter he had been shot, he has some difficulty using his back legs. Because of the placement of the bullet in his spine, we're unable to work on physical therapy with him. But, we've been so happy and excited to see him change every day. He has started to prop himself up and take steps, and staff members have seen him walk and even do a little running. He can certainly get around enough to be happy! Dwight is also incontinent and requires expressions three times per day. He can't pee on his own, so he needs his bladder squeezed, or "expressed", a few times daily. It's pretty straightforward. Our clinic will show you how and make sure you are comfortable with it! Check out Dwight's recent news interview to see him in action: tinyurl.com/2ujxxa3e Dwight Schrute would love to be the Assistant (to the) Regional Manager of your heart. Reach out to meet him! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. Story
Affectionate, Talkative, Charming Meet Thunderbolt! Check out those fantastic wizard whiskers! His whiskers, gray and white coloring, and slightly disheveled but very soft coat make him look like a wizard in feline form. His fosters think he's a very handsome boy too. This sweet old man cat loves scritches and attention of any kind. He waits for his foster humans at the door, immediately starts talking up a storm when he sees them, and hops up to get pets. He's pretty active for a kitty his age, and he has a lot to say about almost everything. He's an animated and attentive conversationalist. He's quite a foodie, too, and will enthusiastically gobble up his meals. This is especially great because it's super easy to give him medication in his food! He is currently being treated for pillow foot, or plasma cell pododermatitis, a rare condition in which the immune system attacks the paw pads. This causes his paws to become inflamed and sometimes bleed. In addition to his daily meds, his fosters clean his paws with medicated wipes. While he has been APA's care, his condition has improved so now only one paw is still affected. He currently cannot use typical cat litter and instead uses pee pads or even a towel, which works just fine! He came to APA in rough shape with matted fur, but fortunately he enjoys being brushed! Thunderbolt would love to find a home where he can be loved and relax during his golden years. He would enjoy having space to roam and explore, soft spots to nap on, and lots of human interaction. He is such as sweet and personable kitty who wants to tell you all about his day and be near you, and his purr motor revs when he's brushed or petted. His foster can verify that the top of his head is very smoochable too and that his purr intensifies when his head is kissed. If you'd like to have a distinguished wizard gentleman in cat form in your house, reach out today so you can meet him! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Thunderbolt, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.
