Meet Indra! This sweet but shy girl came to RBARI shortly after giving birth to her 4 beautiful babies. Indra was also not healthy herself, as she was experiencing chronic diarrhea. Not only was she being depleted by that condition, but caring for her babies was an additional drain on her. She was trying so hard to be a good mom to her little brood that there was no way we couldn't help her. Despite our efforts, poor Indra's diarrhea would just not let up. Clearly this was not a "normal" case of diarrhea, so we did some more digging in the form of bloodwork. At that point we not only found the potential cause of her diarrhea, but also that she was anemic. She had mycoplasma which is a blood born bacterial infection. Both conditions were very treatable, but the antibiotic treatments would be passed through her milk to her babies, risking their well-being. Then came the hard decision, could we take Indra away from her babies to preserve her health without compromising the health of her babies? Her babies had just started to wean and were thriving, so our vets felt it was in the best interest of our little family to separate mama and babies. Indra is no longer anemic and ready for a forever home. She is still a shy girl but coexisted wonderfully in her foster home. She may take a little time to trust, but a quiet home is where this girl tends to shine. The shelter environment is overwhelming for her, and she spends most of her time in a large dog crate or a cat tree cubby hole. This poor lady has had such a rough go of it, but we're hoping that she'll find a forever home to take as good of care of her as she did of her babies. Meet Oreo! This sweet girl had had quite the journey. Due to unfortunate circumstances beyond her control, Oreo has lost her home multiple times, but still remains so trusting and loving to every person she meets. She's always ready for a good scratch behind the ears and is more than happy to get comfortable wherever you are. Hope you don't mind sharing your bed!Oreo is so easy going and makes herself right at home in just about any environment. She's currently in a foster home, but when she had to come back to the shelter for a couple of days, she quickly adapted to being our office cat. She does have a bit of a fearless nature, ready to take on whatever comes her direction! Since she's been with us, we discovered that Oreo has irritable bowl disease or IBD. Yes, cats can have sensitive digestive tracts just like people! It's very treatable, and many cats live perfectly long and happy lives regardless. She does get a prescription diet and a B12 supplement to keep her tummy happy and will likely need both for the rest of her life. Meet Ginny Geeg! This young at heart lady came to us as Ginny, but with the spunk that she has shown, we decided to spice up her name a little bit. Ginny was rescued off the streets over a year ago by a good Samaritan. Since Ginny wasn't a fan of the other cats in the house, she was stuck in a dog crate. The good Samaritan reached out to us, when Ginny was crying out when she ate, and she wasn't able to afford the dental that she suspected Ginny required. Hearing about her situation, we offered to take her and get her the care she needed. Once our vets looked at her, they realized she needed more than just a standard dental. She has a condition called stomatitis, which is like gingivitis for cats. For her, managing it has been as simple as adding some medication to her food. What can be easier than that? As if this poor girl didn't have it rough enough, as soon as we were ready to send her in for her dental, we discovered a lump on her belly. The lump was removed but it was malignant. Now Ginny Geeg is cancer free and ready to live her best life. Even with all that going on, Ginny Geeg has been a champ. She has a good appetite and is in good spirits. Meet Brighton! This young man came to us when he was just 8 weeks old, and he was simply terrified of us and this new enclosed world that he was now living in. Given his young age, we sought out a foster for him and his sister Bernie. He came around in his foster home, but still wasn't a huge fan of people. Since coming back to the shelter, we've tried to make him as comfortable as possible, hoping to earn his trust. Brighton still isn't totally sold on humans and loves to stare down at us like a furry overlord. He loves his high perches and food. He would probably give Garfield a run for his money if he was allowed to eat all day. I've had Malibu from when she and i were toddlers; Malibu is a very sweet, gentle and lovable cat. She loves watching TV, cuddles, toys and catnip. Downsides are that she is anxious and timid, but she can adapt quickly. She is 8 years old but looks and acts like a kitten. Not good with kids. She is up to date on everything including rabies and has no known health complications.
