Kona is pure sunshine wrapped in fur and a little bit of happy chaos. A 4 year old spayed female Flat-Coated Retriever and Australian Shepherd Mix, she brings that perfect blend of goofy charm, smarts, and big-hearted energy everywhere she goes. She came in as an owner surrender alongside her buddy Milo due to a family health situation—but through it all, Kona has stayed her joyful, tail-wagging self. She’s the kind of dog who doesn’t dwell on the past… she’s too busy leaning into the next good thing. Playful, social, and full of bounce, Kona lights up when she’s moving, exploring, or just being part of the action. She’s affectionate without being shy about it—she knows people are her favorite thing. Part athlete, part goofball, all love. We hold an event every weekend at our facility on SATURDAY and SUNDAY 11-5pm and open to the public. It is first come first serve we do not evaluate applications prior to an event. If there are multiple interested parties in the same dog or puppy at the same time we would pick the best out of the 10 applications. Please visit our social media platforms for the specifics for each weekend as it changes from week to week. Hi there! My name is Millie, and I’m a 7-month-old pup weighing 37 pounds. The shelter thinks I’m a Flat-Coated Retriever mix — but whatever I am, I’m 100% adorable! I’m a happy-go-lucky girl who is equal parts fun, sweetness, and puppy silliness, with just the right amount of spunk mixed in. Since being rescued by GRCGLA Rescue, I’ve been having the best time playing with other dogs and soaking up all the love from the wonderful volunteers caring for me. Everyone who meets me falls for my cheerful personality and playful spirit. I’m still just a baby, so I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and discovering how wonderful life can be with a family of my own. Now all I need is a forever home filled with love, adventure, belly rubs, and people who will cherish me for the rest of my life. Could that be you?I am all recovered from my spay surgery and officially ready for my forever home! Luckily, while I wait, I get to spend my days at what I like to call Doggie Disneyland — and I LOVE it here! Meet Onyx  Once just a number on a euthanasia list, Onyx was waiting on a cold shelter floor at Contra Costa Animal Services—unsure if anyone would come for him. It’s hard to understand how a dog this gentle, this loving, could have come so close to losing his life simply because he was overlooked. Life hasn’t been kind to Onyx. He didn’t deserve to be abandoned, and he certainly didn’t deserve to feel invisible. And yet… his spirit never broke. Onyx is about 4 years old and weighs around 45 lbs. We believe he may be a Flat-Coated Retriever or Newfoundland mix—whatever his breed, he is absolutely stunning, both inside and out. He’s vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Despite everything, Onyx still loves people. He still trusts. He still leans in for affection and just wants to be close to someone who makes him feel safe. He can do well with other dogs when introduced properly, but more than anything, he’s craving a person to call his own. What Onyx wants is simple, but powerful: A home. A soft place to rest. COURTESY POST / URGENT! MUST EXIT SHELTER 4/25 by 4PM OR WILL BE EUTHANIZED! Introducing our playful, affectionate, young boy COCO! He’s 10 months old, puppy-like, enjoys toys and playing fetch, and knows his sit command, loves treats. He will need guidance/training, but he has the basics down and he’s eager to please. Coco loves people and leans in for attention, snuggling, and petting. He has participated in Shelter play groups and overall doing well. Needs a bit of confidence building. Coco was adopted from the shelter as a puppy and surrendered back to the shelter 9 months later for being “hyper”. Sadly, he was a backyard-only dog and his shelter was a wooden dog house. His coat was in poor shape when surrendered. Coco was recently adopted but returned after one day. He was not good with the 2 small resident dogs and nipped at the adopter while he was sleeping. Coco is a young pup who is good natured, sweet, engaging, friendly, and still learning about the world. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and seems a bit love-starved. Ollie knows commands, sit, stay and give paw. Does well on leash but still needs guidance. Loves people, ok with other dogs, just an exuberant guy. He is a happy guy, and would do well with an active person or someone who works from home Ollie is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He would love to find his furever family and home.
