Story
About Me  Carter is an approximately 7-year-old, flat-coat retriever who is a big ‘ol love bug. He bonds quickly and adores his human companions. He is super affectionate and loves getting attention from people. This gorgeous pup is easy at home but does need a bit of work on walks around other dogs. Yes – super easy at home! Carter is fully house-trained and an exceptional family member with impeccable manners. He is the perfect gentleman. You won’t find any furniture climbing or counter surfing with this guy. He knows the commands: “Sit,” “Down” and “Up.” Carter is very intelligent so will also learn new things quickly. He loves companionship but is not super clingy — wanting to be where his humans are, but also just fine lying there snoozing at your feet. He is gentle-natured. He rides easily in the car. He will bark to alert his foster parents that someone has come into the house or is outside the door. Carter loves to go on long walks or runs followed by a nice nap at home. An active adopter who enjoys hiking, walking, or running daily with their dog would be ideal. He loves to do zoomies in the yard. He has a high prey drive, however, so when he sees little critters in the yard he likes to hunt them or give chase! Because of this, cats or other small critters would not be good house companions. Carter is also fearful of other dogs so he should be your one and only. Out and about, Carter is a big, strong pup and will need a physically capable handler. His leash skills have greatly improved but he can still pull hard when he is anxious about something – like seeing another dog on walks. Because of this, a less populated neighborhood or walks at non-peak time will be easier for Carter. Carter is currently not a “dog park dog” or a “dog beach dog” or one to attend dog-social gatherings. Someone patient and willing to help him to overcome his fear of other dogs using positive methods would be wonderful. He has so much love and potential so we would love someone willing to help him ultimately become the best version of himself. What Carter lacks in appreciation for other dogs, he makes up tenfold in his love for calm, adult humans.  My Ideal Home  Carter’s ideal home would be a couple or individual living in a quieter rural neighborhood where he doesn’t need to be “up close” to other dogs. He would like to be the center of your universe – your one and only pet. He needs a physically strong handler for walks and would enjoy people who love long walks in nature or hikes where he won’t necessarily have close encounters with other dogs. Carter would also love a yard so he has then opportunity for some free, off leash time with privacy from other dogs – fencing should not be see-through into other yards with dogs. Got property? Even better! Carter will help keep it free of small critters. The more dense your area, the more patience, time and energy you would need to help Carter overcome his fears of other dogs – using positive methods only. Carter has also shown to be not a fan of small children and any older kids should be calm and dog-savvy.  Want to Adopt me?  If you are interested in adopting Carter and have filled out an online application, please send us an email telling us why you would be a good fit for this wonderful boy! You may reach out to his friend Nedra at nedrawagz1@gmail.com Carter is currently being fostered in Fullerton. Adoption Fee:  $500.00  Please note:  We are only able to cover and adopt out to residents of Southern California.  December 1, 2023, 11:07 am

Meet Wolfie! Wolfie is an energetic, fun-loving, flat haired retriever! His family absolutely adore him but are running into some issues with him due to his high energy and their young kids! Wolfie is blind and so faces some daily difficulty due to that, but nothing that he isn't handling like a champ! He is currently going through training with his family to see if they can make it work but they want to get a jump start on finding him his perfect forever home.

Story
Introducing Piper!  She is a new momma that has recently been separated from her sweet babies.   Now it's time for Piper to find her forever home!  Our best guess is that Piper is a flat coat retriever mix.  She has the prettiest, shiniest coat! She is a young girl about 1 and currently 50 pounds.  Piper and her little family came to our rescue from the Big Bear shelter.  We were told she was relinquished to the shelter because her owner was in the military and being deployed. Piper did a wonderful job as a new mom. After she nursed her babies she would spend most of her time with the humans in her home. She loves to be around people. Piper has lived with other dogs in rescue and did well. Piper is currently experiencing some separation anxiety when she is not near her foster mom.  She will need a patient adopter that has time to work with her and gradually build her confidence.  Piper loves to play with toys!  She is learning to walk nicely on leash.  Her foster mom says that she will pull at times but it is easy to get her attention.  She loves to stop and smell the roses.  Sometimes Piper can be a little reactive towards dogs and people she doesn't recognize.  She will need consistency to help distract her with treats when she spots a trigger on walks.  Piper can be a bit of a picky eater but when she likes a food item she will eat she has even counter surfed once or twice.  Piper has done really well with potty training.   Piper's favorite things are laying on her human's bed and playing with toys!  She absolutely loves the big toy box at her foster home.  Piper tends to like to hog all of the toys for herself.  She can play for several hours at a time.. Piper also  enjoys playing with the other dog in the home.  However she is definitely more human focused.  Her foster mom says that she is a sweet girl with the goal to keep you safe from the gardener, mail carrier and friends;-)‍ If Piper sounds like the girl for you, please complete an adoption application. Questions can be emailed to danelle@roversretreat.org Piper's Adoption Fee is $500

Story
Hi my name is Chico and I am an apx 3 year old Flat Coated Retriever/Border Collie mix. Sadly, I found myself at the Baldwin Park Shelter win my homeless owner gave me and my friend Oreo (who had been adopted). I am good with other dogs and an all around happy guy. I love to play with my favorite plastic ball too! I will even walk you sometimes I forgot to mention that I absolutely love the water too! If you've ever wanted a water loving dog, I'm your guy!!! Little did my rescue know when they saved me and Oreo, is that I have congential corneal dermoids that require expensive surgery by an eye specialist. My rescue mom took me in to find out what is needed and she is/has been working on raising funds for my much needed $4500 eye surgery before these corneal dermoids do even more damage to my inner eyes. The eye specialist not only needs to remove the dermoids, he also needs to reconstruct the inner eye. I'm just so grateful that Delaney's Dog mission is to help dogs who need help most and that they didn't turn their back on me and let my young life end at that scary, deadly Baldwin Park kill shelter where I saw so many dogs leave their overcrowded and dirty kennels to never return.  I was next in line to lose my life until my rescue hero mom came for me.   I am currently seeking a foster to adopt home while rescue continues efforts to raise money to help my poor eyes. It has been a long and rough battle for them trying to raise funds but they have promised that they will not give up on me.   If you can foster me, or donate to my surgery, we would be so grateful. I really want to be in a home again. Could you help me?  ##1484630##
