MEET SKY Sky is a female Labrador Retriever mix. She approximately 14 months old and weighs around 50 pounds. Sky is extremely loving and enjoys love and affection from her human companion. She is active but also loves to chill wherever you are. Sky is great on car rides and claims shotgun whenever the opportunity arises. Sky’s ideal person is someone who is patient and kind. She is very friendly however she does not seem to recognize that small humans or small dogs do not match her size and strength. We feel Sky will be best suited for a home with adults only or adults with older teenage children. We feel Sky will do best in a one dog only home or with another friendly dog that is equally as large as she is. If Sky seems like she could be the pup for you please contact her foster. Story
Barney Fife is a handsome 7 yr old senior Lab with beautiful bronze fur. He weighs about 85 lbs., so he is a big boy! He was found as a stray by a good Samaritan who sought help from SCLRR. We don't have any information about his history. However, his body and temperament tells the story of a dog who likely lived outdoors most of his life, yet was loved enough that he enjoys and is relaxed around all people- craving affection and responding to basic commands. He even knows how to shake hands! Barney Fife loves everyone he meets, male or female, young, old, and just wants to be loved! He lived with his first foster for 2 months in a condo with his foster lab sister and did very well. Barney is now with his second foster family and is enjoying having a large yard and hanging in the house with his chocolate lab foster brother and Bichon mix foster sister. He also has done well with the two foster male cats, but likes to steal their food. Clearly he is a Labrador! He does well in the busy household with 3 teenage children and his foster Mom and Dad. Barney loves to ride in the car, and is well behaved while waiting, if you run an errand or two. He does fine being alone in the house for a few hours and usually just goes right to sleep. As a tall dog, the Lab in him keeps an eye on nearby counters and tables, so food needs to be out of reach. When on leash, he does sometimes pull when he sees something of interest, but he is easily corrected when using a pronged collar. Barney is looking for a home with at least one seasoned big dog person and lots of love. He is fine on his own, but he really likes to be with his people, so a person that works from home would be ideal. He is a quiet boy and rarely barks. The only time he barks is when he is letting us know he is done with his meal. We keep all the dogs separate to eat as they like to sample each others food! He would be good with other dogs or would be fine as your one and only. Barney is an absolutely sweet dog that just wants to be with you. He often just lays near his foster mom while she does dishes, laundry, or doing work in her office. Barney has good manners and does not jump on people, which is helpful as he is quite a big boy. If you love those big, sweet boys, Barney is ready to come home. Just reach out to your Family Rep to meet this good boyIf you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.

Story
Lolo is a 5.5 yr old (DOB 10/26/2018), chocolate female, AKC English Lab, at 74 lbs. She is a petite girl, could shed a little weight too. She came to SCLRR as an owner turn in because her owner moved. This gentle and super sweet girl is as best as it gets. She is PERFECT. She is an absolute pleasure to have around, completely non-destructive (except for some toys that might explode if playing with another dog). She loves her shorter walks and loves playing with other dogs. Yet, she settles down nicely to take her beauty naps. She is great on leash and super wonderful in the car. She is VERY calm and mellow but will activate if playing with another dog. She likes to fetch but not obsessed with it. Her favorite game is tug-of-war with another dog. Lolo will be your shadow at home - she just loves her humans and be part of the family. She is a cuddler and loves sitting on the couch next to her people with her head on your lap. She is housetrained but refuses to use the doggie door even though we showed her how. You have to let her out every few hours. She is great off leash. She is not a long-distance walker and would prefer shorter walks - under 3 miles or so but is happy with 1 mile walks too. She knows how to swim but it is not her favorite thing. She might be allergic to chlorine as it made it quite itchy post swimming in our pool. Lolo might have some skin allergies but with regular baths and good food, we have been able to manage them. She is taking some supplements for that as well. She would love to be adopted by a family that is not away from home for very long hours, as she loves having companionship. She also loves other dogs but loves people more. We think she will be fine being an only dog. She is not a barker at all, will not make a good guard dog. She barks sometimes on walks if she gets spooked by something but it is VERY rare. She met few cats and was very interested in them and chasing so no cats for this lady. She is great with kids and has a very soft mouth and takes treats gently. Very young toddlers might overwhelm her though. If you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.

Story
Meet Marjorie!   This sweet 6-8 year old girl found herself all alone at a local shelter. As soon as we saw her face we knew we needed to come to her rescue. One of our amazing volunteers raced to the shelter and took her on her freedom walk!   Marjorie is in a foster home with 3 other big dogs (1 of them is a dominant female) and gets along well with them.  Her Foster Mom does make sure to feed the dogs separately to prevent any issues as Marjorie is very food motivated. Marjorie would do best in a home where she can be the only dog or with a passive mellow dog.     She is a well mannered, doesn’t bother any of her foster Mom’s things and doesn’t really know any commands except for sit. We believe she was used at one point as a breeder dog and turned loose on the street when they no longer needed her.   Marjorie is definitely a Velcro dog and will follow you everywhere, yes to the bathroom. She will often seek affection from her Foster Mom, rolling over for belly rubs when you get close, or, her favorite thing to do, offering you her paw. If you’re standing, she’ll wave it in the air until you catch it. If you’re sitting on the couch, she’ll rest her head on either your knee or the edge of couch.  She loves anyone and everyone that comes over to visit. We think she actually believes they are there to visit her and give her all the love she deserves.   She does beg for food, acts like she is starving but you would never know it because she could stand to lose about 10-15 pounds.  She weight 83LBS when pulled from the shelter and is now down to 79LBS. With a firm “No” she will give you space to eat your food. She will look on the counter if she smells any kind of food and will try to get it out of your hands, so small kids might not be a good fit for her.   When first arriving at her Foster home, she had several potty accidents, but she learned to use the doggie door and has been doing much better ever since. She enjoys riding in the car. Marjorie’s favorite past time is eating and snoozing on the couch next to her foster mom.   Marjorie is a quiet girl. The only time she has ever barked/growled is when being barked at by another dog or when she hears someone at the door or see someone outside.   As for a home, best scenario for her is an older person/couple who just wants a sweet, lower energy girl to hang out with. She has not shown any separation anxiety and has been left for up to 5-6 hours alone and has not destroyed anything, but was just happy to lie down and wait for your return.   If you’re interested in adopting Marjorie, please complete our adoption application on our website.

Story
FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED! Malcolm is a sweet and mellow 2-year-old Lab mix. He's very well socialized, so we think he was kept in somebody's backyard before he was found scavenging for scraps on the street. Neighbors say he had been living for weeks in the area, drinking from the gutter to survive. Malcolm is so friendly, he came right up to us and asked to be saved. We searched for an owner, but without a collar or chip, we didn't have any luck. Now, Malcolm is getting used to living in a house and sleeping on a warm, cozy bed. He's very smart and is responding well to training. He already knows many basic commands. Malcolm is a good boy and walks well on a leash, which is pretty amazing for a big dog! Malcolm likes other dogs and gets along well with dogs in the home as well as those he sees on the street. He's still getting used to cats but should go to a home without cats. Malcolm is super friendly to everyone he meets and loves to cuddle. He'd make a great companion for long walks, jogging or hiking. He really is a great dog! We've had Malcolm examined by our vet, neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. If you'd like to meet this healthy, happy boy, please complete our adoption application found on dexterfoundation.com Malcolm needs a foster or forever home.
