What we know: Single female surrendered by local family who could no longer keep her. Originally found as a very malnourished stray while the family was feeding a colony of feral cats.
*Maple has had several instances of growling at children during her time in foster. It seems like a fear-based reaction, so for her comfort as well as safety of everyone else, we are looking for a home with no young kids for Maple.*
From the foster: Maple was adopted briefly and was returned. The adopters sought-out a trainer to address reactive/fear barking in general, but primarily at new things. The trainer advised that the issue was solvable but would require a plan and felt like more than they could commit to. Ultimately, Maple is insecure and has not had much structure in her life based on the little we know. Confidence-building efforts would go a long way with Maple, and we think another confident dog in her home would be helpful, too. She did have a cat in her adoptive home, and she was friendly and wanted to play with the cat.
Maple is very sweet and loving when given a chance to warm-up to her people. She is potty-trained with frequent potty breaks (every couple of hours), but isn't as reliable if left for longer. A yard where she can go out frequently might help with this.
We do think Maple may have had a litter of puppies early in life, but we don't know that for sure. She has been spayed and chipped and is up-to-date on vaccines.
Maple has lots of potential that I think she can absolutely achieve given time, patience, and structure. Maple is not a pup you take home and expect to be ready-to-go on day one. We would really like Maple to find a great fit, so please consider your willingness to work on confidence building and socialization prior to meeting this sweet girl.

Let me tell you a little about myself!
First things first, I am a HUGE lovebug! 🥰 I absolutely LOVE following my foster mama around the house. When she’s cooking, you’ll probably catch me sitting there staring at her like her little personal assistant. And the second she turns around? SURPRISE! I’m ready to give her the biggest hug! 🤗❤️ What can I say? I just love showing my people how much they mean to me!
I also LOVE going on walks, playing with my toys, and OH MY GOODNESS… FETCH!!! 🎾😍 Did someone say FETCH?! Because I could play that all day!
One of my favorite things is spending time in my foster family’s backyard. I love running around, playing, and just being my happy little self. Having a fenced backyard in my forever home would be a dream come true! 🌳🐾
Now, here’s where I need to have a little heart-to-heart with you. ❤️
I don’t want to catfish my future family into thinking I’m the perfect dog. 😂 Because while I have the potential to be someone’s PERFECT companion, I’m still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place.
You see, sometimes people I don’t know scare me. When I’m afraid, I bark because I don’t know how else to tell the world that I’m uncomfortable. I’m not trying to be difficult. I’m just trying to protect myself the only way I know how. 🥺❤️
I need someone who understands that trust takes time. Someone who won’t give up on me just because I need a little extra reassurance. 🐶💕
I don’t need someone who expects perfection. I just need someone who believes in me. 🥹
Someone patient enough to let me open up at my own pace. Someone who will celebrate my little victories. Someone who will teach me that I am safe, that I am loved, and that I never have to be afraid of losing my home again.
I promise that underneath my nervous moments is a girl with the BIGGEST heart, just waiting to give someone all the love she has. ❤️
And hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day, right? Neither is trust. But I promise I’m worth the wait. 🥹🐾
I may not be the easiest dog you’ll ever love, but I promise that doesn’t mean I’m any less deserving of being loved. ❤️
