Duke is a stunner! He was on an adventure when spotted and arrived to the shelter on 3/22. He has a micro-chip but sadly his family did not come for him. Duke is 4 years old and weighs in at 61 pounds. He knows to sit and shake when asked. He barks to go potty and is a perfect gentleman on a leash. The pictures do not do him justice. He will steal your heart. Are you already in love with Duke? Ask for ID# 17736 Run 53. He will be neutered soon and he has a micro-chip. He has tested negative for heart worm. Note - all the listings on Friends of Shelter Animals for Cobb are done by volunteers. If this cat or dog came in as a lost animal, we do not know how they might be with children, other pets, or if house trained. You can bring your pet to the shelter for a meet & greet with your potential new best friend. When inquiring about a cat or dog, please use THE ID NUMBER. This pet is available for adoption from Cobb County Animal Services, 1060 Al Bishop Dr. Marietta, GA 30008, (770) 499-4136. Shelter hours: Tues. - Sun. 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Mondays & Holidays. The adoption includes shots, altering, a heartworm or combo test and a microchip.

Story
Maximus is a 61-lb. 8-year-old black Lab mix who I’ve had since he was young. He is affectionate, loyal, and very people- and toy/ball-oriented. He enjoys being close to his family, spending time outdoors, and relaxing inside. He is gentle, sensitive, and eager to please. He is good with other dogs and does well around children. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. In 2025, he had 2 small tumors removed from his side and his back near his hip. The surgery was successful, and he recovered without complications. He is currently healthy and active and obsessed with playing catch. Maximus can be skittish around fireworks and thunder and gets anxious during car rides and vet visits. He takes fluoxetine to help manage anxiety. He has had some recent house-training inconsistencies during stressful periods but improves with routine and supervision. He would do best in a calm, stable home that can provide structure and reassurance.
