Story
Hi. I'm Boone! I'm a sweet and gentle 3-year-old boy with the cutest face - that's what everyone that meets me tells me anyway!!  First and foremost and before I tell you all the good stuff  - -  I would love to have a confident dog buddy to live with or one that visits alot. I simply love other dogs and it will help me acclimate to my new home and people. OK, so here's my story:  I was abandoned with my brother and ended up in a scary shelter. My brother was much braver than me and had no trouble meeting people and he got adopted. I was really scared when he left me alone and I just wanted to hide. Then some kind people got me out of there just in time and I've been learning to be brave; and doing a really good job of it, I might add. I like people once I get to know them and it doesn't take me long at all, maybe 3-4 days then we're buds. Once we're buds, I'm affectionate and playful and enjoy the attention. I have never bitten or even threatened to bite anyone, that would not be cool. I even did pretty well with the vet recently as long as my trusted people were with me and telling me it was ok. You see, I'm just a little scared something bad will happen but once I know it won't, I relax. I'm not a clingy boy but I like being around my family. I have not met any cats but I kind of think I would be a little scared of the hissy, spitty things (I've barked at a few......). I would love to find a home that’s calm and quiet, with not too many strangers going in and out. If new people do come over, I'd need a safe space where I can relax. I won’t cause any trouble—I'm just a little nervous around unfamiliar faces and need some time to feel safe. The perfect family for me would be quiet, patient, and understanding, and would give me the time I need to adjust - oh yeah, they would also have another nice doggo to be my friend and confidant (in case you missed that above). I'm not much of a barker, and I’m not destructive either. I may still be a bit scared of some things in the big world right now, but with the right family, I know I can find my way. My foster mom has been taking me out-and-about on walks with other dogs and I think I really enjoy it!!  I walk nice on leash, too. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle guy like me and prefer quiet instead of chaos, maybe we will be a match. I know it won't be easy at first but I will try really hard to be the bestest boy I can.  If you want to give me a chance I will be waiting in Lower Lake in my foster home (or I might be able to meet you in Santa Rosa).  You like this dog...now what? Story
Hi, I’m Sasha. I’m a very soft and sweet girl who looks like a mini German Shepherd — I’m about 55 pounds right now and still young, but I won’t be a big dog. I’m that “just right” size a lot of people love. I’m a little shy when I first meet new people or go into new places. I get anxious and timid at first, but I really, really try my best. Once I feel safe, my playful side comes out and I start seeking engagement and connection. I love treats (especially soft jerky!), but my foster doesn’t lure me with them — they want me to approach on my own, and I’m learning to do that more and more. I allow handling just fine, and my foster was even able to pick me up and place me gently into the car. In the car, I’m very quiet. I just sit up, look around, and take everything in. I love playful dogs! I’ve been great with every dog I’ve met so far, especially the tiny ones who like to bounce around with me. Sometimes I can be a little too forward because I’m still learning how to “speak dog,” but when another dog tells me to chill, I listen right away. I keep my kennel clean, though no one is quite sure if I’ve ever lived inside a home before. I’d do best with a foster who’s home a lot, in a calm, quieter environment, with another nice, confident dog to show me how everything works. I shouldn’t be off-leash for quite a while unless I’m in a fully enclosed space and dragging a long line — safety is really important for me right now. I do come back for treats, though! I’m gently playful with toys and the ball, but I’m still figuring out how those games work. What I do know is that I’ll bond deeply with my person. I’m learning that the world isn’t as scary as it felt before, and I’m already walking nicely on leash and following my fosters wherever they go. I’ve had a rough start with humans, but I’m growing, learning, and getting braver every day. With patience, kindness, and slow, confident socializing, I’m going to become the sweetest, most loyal companion — maybe yours. Story
Hi! I’m INDY — a striking shepherd–husky mix and basically a one-dog celebration of freedom, spirit, and fun. I’m about 5 years old, about 75 pounds, and super smart. I’ve got big dreams of adventures, wide-open play yards, and maybe even a mountain trail or two.  I’ve got that classic Shepsky vibe: part serious, perimeter-watching shepherd, part vocal, goofy, up-for-anything husky. I’m clever, a little sassy, and always ready to keep life interesting. I do best with an active person or family who enjoys movement, mental games, and a dog who keeps them laughing. And here’s the exciting part — my new foster dad is into all the fun stuff I’ve been dreaming about, and I’m so looking forward to being his adventure pal. Trails, outings, exploring the world together? Yes please. If you’re looking for a loyal, entertaining companion who’s ready to live life to the fullest, I’m ready to meet you. Forever sounds pretty great to me. Story
Hi, I’m Loki! I’m a 7.5 year-old German Shepherd and people say I’m absolutely stunning. My thick, shiny black coat is pretty impressive if I do say so myself—and thanks to my amazing foster home, I’m now a healthy 115 pounds of handsome. First things first: I love open spaces. A quiet, rural setting is my ideal vibe. I still get a little startled by things I’m not used to, but I’m getting braver every day with more exposure and encouragement. I just need slow, thoughtful introductions to new experiences to help me feel safe and confident. I’m still working on my leash skills—especially when I see other dogs or things moving quickly. I can get a little wound up, so I’m looking for someone experienced with dogs who have leash stress, or someone who’s ready to work with a qualified trainer who can help me keep making progress. I’m already in training, and I’m a smart boy who’s eager to learn. Off-leash, I shine! I love visiting friends who have lots of space to roam, and, while I had a blast playing with my malinois friend Croc, I'm kind of like a high school kid who never got to interact with other kids...I need a little coaching!  I do often hang out with a senior small dog and just let him do his thing. I’m respectful like that. I’ve done a great job meeting new people, and I have excellent house manners. I sleep quietly beside my foster mom’s bed, and if I can’t ride along with you (which I love to do, even though I might bark at other dogs I see), I’m perfectly content to stay home. I’ve been trustworthy when left loose in the house—no trouble at all. And then there’s my ball. Ohhh, my ball. It’s basically my best friend. I carry it everywhere in the house and love a good game of fetch. I’m a big boy with a soft heart and a playful side. If you’re into tall, dark, and incredibly handsome boys with just enough mystery to keep things interesting, I might be your perfect match. I’m looking for a patient, experienced adopter who understands leash sensitivity and is ready to help me keep to grow into the best version of myself. I’m waiting in Danville and I’d really love to meet you. You like this dog...now what? Story
Hi! I’m Ari — but my friends call me R-Dog. I’m mostly German Shepherd with just a sprinkle of Doberman — the perfect combo if you ask me! That mix gives me my sleek black coat, svelte shape, and tan-tipped toes (which I think are very fancy). Oh, and these ginormous ears? They’re my best feature! I think I’m pretty cute, don’t you? Everyone says I’m super sweet and affectionate, and once we know each other, I’ll happily curl up like a lap dog. I just love being with my people. Whether we’re hanging out at home or cruising in the car, I’m in — though I admit, loud cars and beeping trucks can make me a little nervous, and I might want to scoot up front for reassurance. I’m crate-trained and actually love my crate, so I’m just as happy riding that way too. As long as we’re together, I’m a happy girl. Out on walks, I mostly mind my own business, but if another dog or stranger surprises me, I might bark and carry on a little more than I should. If a dog gives me the hairy eyeball, I can get defensive — I’m working on it! You see, I didn’t get the best start. I was adopted as a pup, but my family lost interest and left me in the backyard. I didn’t get to see the world or meet new people like I should have. Luckily, my rescue friends took me back, and I’m learning so much. They say I’m smart, sweet, and doing really well! I actually enjoy being brushed, getting my nails done, and I’m even pretty good at the vet! I’m fine around calm, easygoing dogs and like walking with dog friends, but I’d rather not do dog parks or off-leash play — I’d prefer to be your one and only. Trust me, I’m all you’ll need! I love walks and hope to be your hiking or running buddy one day, though sometimes new sights and sounds make me pause for a moment. Oh — and one more thing: I LOVE WATER. Ponds, creeks, wading pools — you name it, I’m in! Rain or shine, you’ll find me splashing, swimming, or lounging in the water with the biggest grin. I grew up with a cat, but other cats might be too interesting for me. Still, maybe the right cat and I could be friends. Even when I’m scared or barking, I’ve never tried to bite anyone — I just need a little patience and understanding. With love, consistency, and time, I know I’ll blossom into the best companion anyone could ask for. If you want to meet me, I’m hanging out in Santa Rosa, waiting for my forever person.
