Story
Peanut is a special boy we have had him since he was 10 weeks old we adopted him for Nate’s honor animal rescue. He will be 5 years old in June. He is a very sweet dog great with kids, dogs and cats! We unfortunately have to rehome him due to my husband and I working and having our 10 month old daughter who is our main priority and we just don’t have the time to spend with him and neglecting him and giving him attention he deserves. He does bark when he hears noises outside and has accidents occasionally. He is a little anxious but once he warms up he will sleep right next to you and give you kisses. He just needs someone who is home more and can work on some training for his barking and the accidents he has when we aren’t home.

Story
Meet Bubbles — a 1.5-year-old German Shepherd / Great Pyrenees mix. I adopted him as a puppy, and while he’s been an amazing companion, I’m moving and can no longer give him the time or care he deserves. He’s neutered (cryptorchid surgery complete), microchipped, fully vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PPL, Lepto, Bordetella), and heartworm negative. I have all his medical records. Bubbles is 75 lbs, house-trained, sweet, and playful. He’s great with kids and does well with other dogs once introduced properly. He’s energetic and needs a home with a fenced yard or someone active who can give him regular exercise and attention. I’m fostering him until the right home is found — this is not a shelter surrender. I want to make sure he ends up with someone loving, patient, and responsible. He’s a special dog and deserves a great life. If you're interested or have questions, reach out — I have lots of pictures and am happy to talk more!

Story
Major is coming back to rescue after two failed adoptions, and he needs the right home this time. This boy is not for the faint of heart. Major is a young, intense, high-drive dog with serious energy and a pushy personality. He’s been involved in an incident with a small dog and displays significant leash reactivity. He needs a very experienced working-breed home—someone who understands how to channel drive, structure intensity, and work with purpose. This is not a dog for casual walks and backyard playtime. Major needs a job. He needs structure, accountability, and a handler who knows what they’re doing. Extensive training is required, either through our program or a pre-approved trainer near the adopter. We’re committed to setting him up for success—and that means only placing him in a home that can meet his full potential. If you’re that person—or know someone who might be—please reach out. The adoption fee for this pet covers the cost of care and training which may have been for several weeks or several months depending on the health and training needs. The fee also covers all vet bills during this time to ensure his/her health is improved or maintained and provides you with assurance that this dog has been well cared for while in our possession and evaluated to meet your home's needs. Included in this fee is also life- long training support provided by PLAY! K9 Academy located in Bradenton, FL as well as Life time microchip registration. When you adopt from a local shelter, you may not receive any medical history for this dog nor will you receive any behavioral history. We hope you understand that the minimal adoption fee we are asking is to continue our mission to rescue unwanted herding and working breeds from shelters/owners and get them adopted to their forever home. PLAY! K9 Rescue will pay for the spay/neuter of this adopted dog. The spay/neuter must be done at a clinic or veterinarian's office approved by PLAY! K9 Rescue. If the adopter chooses to take the pet to their own veterinarian for the spay/neuter procedure, PLAY! K9 Rescue will refund the cost equivalent to an approved PLAY! K9 Rescue veterinarian or clinic. All of our unaltered pets have a fully refundable deposit of $150.00 included within the adoption fee. Once the pet is altered at the appropriate time and proof supplied to our rescue, the adopter will be reimbursed $150.00. Our adoption contract explains this process in detail. Please note, we will not approve an adoption to individuals or families residing in rental apartments. Typically, apartment complexes have pet policies on restricted breeds and weights which includes German Shepherd Dogs, Dutch Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, bully breeds, etc. These dog breeds are not breeds that will thrive in an apartment setting regardless of the management pet policy. Our adoption policy is non-negotiable.

Story
Although Meili may be shy initially when meeting strangers, she continues to make great progress especially when it is done calmly and slowly. This brindle beauty is eight years young and loves taking walks in quiet places without lots of activity and commotion. Although she walks well on leash, it is suggested to use a harness which gives her added security and also helps the handler with any potential pulling. Meili is not interested in playing with dogs, but does fine walking with other mellow dogs and has participated successfully in a six week agility session with other leashed dogs. She adores car rides and soft music and would make a great travel companion. She is very food motivated and has been learning the “wait” command as she anticipates that special treat. Once she trusts you, she will be a faithful companion and will enjoy being close and lying by your side. She loves to watch you with her soulful eyes and the tip of her tail moves joyously when you speak to her. If you are interested in meeting Meili, please fill out an adoption application (no commitment) at Satchelslastresort.org.

Story
We love a good comeback story, and this guy is the definition of the comeback kid! 💪 Last week we shared our old man Dexter, a ten year old Dutch Shepherd who we’d recently taken in. We became aware of Dexter a few weeks ago after one of our vet friends reached out asking if we could help him. Dex was in bad shape and she knew he needed our help. When Dexter arrived to his foster home, our hearts literally shattered. Bad shape really was an understatement - he was severely underweight, missing fur, covered in bloody sores, one of his ears had curled down to half its size due to infection, and his spirit was quite literally broken. He was just a shell of a dog, but we knew we could get him fixed up in time. After only a day with us we started to get glimpses of the real Dexter - the Dexter who doesn’t spend his entire life in a crate, the Dexter who is loved and cared for, the Dexter we knew he could be. We have thrown every possible resource his way, and he truly is a different dog now. He is still on his healing journey - his skin has a ways to go and he still needs to gain about 10lbs - but he is LIGHTYEARS better than he was when we first met him. And so much of that is thanks to the generous donations from our L4P family!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Dex is a very typical Dutch Shepherd and please do not let his age fool you into thinking he’s just an old boy. He absolutely needs a family with experience with Dutchies, Mals, or other high energy, high drive working breeds. Dexter is not the dog for a first time dog owner, and we are in no rush to place him until we find the perfect family for him. He would do best as an only dog unless his family has the ability to give him individual attention. He is not a big fan of small children, but would be fine with late elementary school aged kids or older. Absolutely no cats or other small prey-like animals. Dexter is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and Heartworm negative. He is fostered in Parrish, Florida and his adoption fee is $250. If you think you might be the right family for our comeback kid, please complete an adoption application at the link below or email us at info@love4pawsfl.org! https://www.love4pawsfl.org/adoption-process
