Story
🚨 Meet Lena, a stunning 2-year-old German Shepherd looking for her hero! 🚨 Lena is on a journey of bravery and growth, searching for a foster or forever home that can offer her the love and security she deserves. With a past that has left her a bit shy and reactive, Lena isn't the type to jump right into the dog park life, but give her the right introduction and a calm environment, and she'll find her way. 🐾 What Lena needs: A foster or forever home that's active and understanding. A handler who's patient and has a knack for doggy communication. Time to decompress and trust at her own pace. Lena promises to be a loyal companion and a loving part of the family, with just a bit of time and patience. Are you the patient, active partner Lena is waiting for? Let's help her come out of her shell and find the loving home she deserves. Story
After five months in the shelter, Sasha came into foster care on August 12, 2024, to start heartworm treatment. She’s now heartworm-free and ready for her forever home, but she still hasn’t received a single application. At approximately 7 years old, Sasha still has plenty of energy but tires a little faster due to past heartworm damage. This doesn’t stop her from living a happy, active life—she just needs a pet home, not a working one. She’s potty and crate trained, ball-obsessed, and loves her daily walks. Sasha is a total shadow dog—she’ll follow you everywhere and soak up all the love you give her. She’s friendly with strangers, has zero guarding instincts, and is calm and well-mannered inside the home. She’s not a couch dog, but when she’s not playing, she’ll nap near you on her dog bed. Like most German Shepherds, Sasha thrives on routine and structure. She adjusts well to new environments with consistency, mental stimulation, and patience. She does great in the car but can be anxious in unfamiliar places at first. She cannot live with cats or small dogs due to her high prey drive. A soft, tolerant large dog may be okay, but only with an experienced handler. Otherwise, she’d be happiest as the only pet. Sasha is a loyal, affectionate girl who just needs someone to give her a chance. She comes with basic obedience training, a month of heartworm/flea/tick prevention, and lifelong training support. Located in Jacksonville, FL but willing to travel up to 4 hours for the right home. Story
Major is coming back to rescue after two failed adoptions, and he needs the right home this time. This boy is not for the faint of heart. Major is a young, intense, high-drive dog with serious energy and a pushy personality. He’s been involved in an incident with a small dog and displays significant leash reactivity. He needs a very experienced working-breed home—someone who understands how to channel drive, structure intensity, and work with purpose. This is not a dog for casual walks and backyard playtime. Major needs a job. He needs structure, accountability, and a handler who knows what they’re doing. Extensive training is required, either through our program or a pre-approved trainer near the adopter. We’re committed to setting him up for success—and that means only placing him in a home that can meet his full potential. If you’re that person—or know someone who might be—please reach out. The adoption fee for this pet covers the cost of care and training which may have been for several weeks or several months depending on the health and training needs. The fee also covers all vet bills during this time to ensure his/her health is improved or maintained and provides you with assurance that this dog has been well cared for while in our possession and evaluated to meet your home's needs. PLAY! K9 Rescue will pay for the spay/neuter of this adopted dog. The spay/neuter must be done at a clinic or veterinarian's office approved by PLAY! K9 Rescue. If the adopter chooses to take the pet to their own veterinarian for the spay/neuter procedure, PLAY! K9 Rescue will refund the cost equivalent to an approved PLAY! K9 Rescue veterinarian or clinic. All of our unaltered pets have a fully refundable deposit of $150.00 included within the adoption fee. Once the pet is altered at the appropriate time and proof supplied to our rescue, the adopter will be reimbursed $150.00. Our adoption contract explains this process in detail. Please note, we will not approve an adoption to individuals or families residing in rental apartments. Typically, apartment complexes have pet policies on restricted breeds and weights which includes German Shepherd Dogs, Dutch Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, bully breeds, etc. These dog breeds are not breeds that will thrive in an apartment setting regardless of the management pet policy. Story
Looking to Rehome Our Dog: Needs a Special Home We are looking to rehome our sweet dog, Bailey, who has been a loving member of our family. Unfortunately, she has shown aggression towards other dogs, and we believe she would be most comfortable in a home where she can be the only pet. She is a loyal and affectionate companion to her family but needs a calm, controlled environment where she can thrive without the stress of other animals or chaotic surroundings. She’s a loving and intelligent dog who deserves a chance to find a home where she can feel safe and secure. If you’re an experienced dog owner with the patience and time to help her feel at ease, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out if you think you could offer Bailey the kind of home she needs. Thank you for considering giving her a fresh start

Story
Lady is 9 years old, I got her when she was around 5 wks old. She knows basic commands and is crate trained. She knows sit, stay, lay down, paw, sit pretty, bed, place (if you point to the ground and say it, she'll position herself between your legs and look up at you), toy, and "bang" (which is like play dead, you do a finger gun at her and she will roll to her side - though in her older age she only does this one about 20% of the time). I recently had a baby which is why I need to rehome her. She's generally good with cats, is NOT good with other dogs, and is not good with rough-housing or startling or loud sounds so she shouldn't be in a house with kids or babies. Lady would respond well to a home that can give her attention and continue training with her. She loves doing her tricks and playing fetch/running around the yard. She is incredibly smart and playful, but also anxious so she needs a home with experience raising dogs that can work with her.
