Story
I rescued Sage 2 years ago, and she truly changed my life—I honestly believe she’s an angel. She is a sweet, calm, and deeply loyal dog who bonds closely with her person. She’s protective, very smart, and learns commands easily. She’s unusually quiet unless there’s a knock on the door. Sage loves being around people she trusts and is great with kids, but very young kids can overwhelm her and she’ll look for space. She just needs a calm, understanding home where she can feel safe. She can be guarded with new dogs and may run toward them aggressively, so she’ll need continued training. She does well off leash in secure settings. She loves being outside, exploring, and needs plenty of outdoor time. She prefers connection with her human over other dogs. Ideal home is 1–2 adults, low traffic, with space to be outside regularly. She has never bitten and is not destructive. She gets bladder stones and UTIs, so a special diet is recommended. I usually cook her food and support her naturally.

Story
Meet Norman! A spirited approximately one-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd/Siberian Husky/American Pitbull Terrier mix from sunny Los Angeles, CA, now embracing the snowy wonderland of Lowell, MI! With his striking tricolor coat and mesmerizing mismatched eyes—one blue, one brown—Norman is a true head-turner. But it’s not just his looks that make him special; this high-energy, adventure-loving pup is always ready for fun! Norman thrives on movement, whether he’s dashing through the snow, leaping over fallen trees, or chasing after his beloved red ball. His enthusiasm is boundless, and he’s eager to share his love for playtime with an active family. Though he’s still working on leash manners, he’s made great progress and loves the freedom of a long lead for fetch sessions. Norman picks up training at lightning speed—he already knows “sit,” “wait,” “place,” “stay,” and “leave it.” Plus, he’s trained with the “yes” marker, making him a fantastic student who’s always eager to learn. He’s also a perfect gentleman in his crate, settling in like a pro when it’s time to rest. While Norman is friendly and curious about other dogs, he does have a strong prey drive—squirrels beware! He hasn’t had much experience with cats, so that’s still a mystery. And when it comes to water? Well, he’s still deciding how he feels about it. Lately, he’s been getting used to being in and around water, even exploring the creek for the first time! Shallow water is becoming less intimidating, and he’s making great progress—one paw at a time! Norman is seeking a home with experienced guardians who understand high-energy breeds and can provide plenty of structure, training, and activity. He thrives on both physical and mental challenges, so an active household willing to take him on adventures would be ideal. Due to his discomfort around young children, a home without little ones is recommended. Older kids may be fine with proper supervision. He’s highly food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding, and with positive reinforcement, he’ll continue to grow into the confident, well-mannered companion he’s meant to be! Norman recently completed his Lyme disease treatment and is currently doing great—he doesn’t show any symptoms and isn’t on any medications at this time. He’ll be retested in about five months to ensure everything stays on track. In the meantime, he’s as playful, affectionate, and adventurous as ever! Norman is eager to find a new loving home where he can run, learn, and cuddle up after a day of play. Could you be the one to welcome this spirited goofball into your life? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Norman today!

Story
Meet Benson! A gentle five-year-old mixed breed currently in Street, MD, whose lineage includes American Pitbull Terrier, German Shepherd, Chow Chow, and other breeds, and whose soft cream coat and soulful eyes tell stories of loyalty, sensitivity, and quiet devotion. Benson is a large, 75-pound companion who carries himself with a thoughtful charm, blending the affectionate nature of a retriever-like appearance with the intelligence and awareness of his unique breed mix. Benson thrives as a constant companion, happiest when he is close to his people, whether joining for a car ride, lounging by the window like a curious cat, or snuggling in during quiet evenings. He knows an impressive list of commands like sit, stay, come, and even sweet cues like kisses and snuggle, making him a joy for someone who appreciates a dog who loves to learn and connect! His favorite pastimes include chasing sturdy balls, enjoying enrichment games, swimming, and relaxing with a good chew. Benson can be sensitive to sudden movements or sounds and may take a couple of minutes to warm up to some people, but once he connects, he is deeply devoted, incredibly loving, and attentive with impeccable house manners. This intuitive boy is deeply in tune with emotions and forms strong bonds with his caregiver. He has a special way of offering comfort, gently leaning in or curling up beside you when you need it most! Benson would benefit from a calm, structured environment with a securely fenced yard that is at least six feet tall, as he has been known to jump fences, where he can feel safe, supported, and understood. He also walks well overall but can pull on leash, so continued guidance and positive reinforcement training will help him stay focused. He is selective with other dogs and currently lives with multiple dogs, but has experienced escalating tension with one specific dog in the home that ultimately led to a physical altercation. He would benefit from being the only dog or having very thoughtful, structured introductions supported by positive reinforcement training. Benson is not compatible with cats and must be in a home without children, where his sensitive nature can shine. He also requires medication to support allergies and emotional balance, helping him feel his best each day. If you are someone who values a loyal, emotionally attuned companion who will stand by your side through life’s ups and downs, Benson may be waiting just for you! Could Benson be the heartfelt connection you’ve been searching for? To learn more or to welcome Benson into your life, please reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com. Story
Meet Ernest! A gentle five-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix currently in Redding, CT, whose soft cream coat and soulful eyes hint at the deep affection he carries for his people. At around 75 pounds, he is a constant companion who loves staying close, offering sweet kisses, and quietly following his favorite humans from room to room. Ernest has grown into a thoughtful, sensitive boy who thrives on connection more than anything else. He has happily shared his world with children, a cat, and even chickens, showing a calm and friendly nature across many different companions. Ernest is wonderfully social with people and is often welcoming toward strangers, yet he also carries a layer of sensitivity that calls for understanding and patience. Ernest requires daily medication, including Keppra, Gabapentin, and Prozac, to manage epilepsy and support his anxiety, and he does best with a caregiver who is comfortable maintaining this routine. His seizures are generally well managed, and with consistency and care, he continues to enjoy life’s simple pleasures like walks, gentle play, and cozy rest time. Ernest can become overstimulated and may vocalize or struggle to settle, especially when there is a lot of movement or change around him, so a calm environment helps him feel secure. He benefits from structure, positive reinforcement, and a steady presence, and he is happiest when someone is nearby to share companionship and reassurance. While he is good with other dogs, he may need thoughtful introductions and continued guidance to keep play balanced and comfortable. More than space, Ernest seeks connection, leaning into his people with a hopeful heart. He needs a new loving home with an attentive guardian who is present most of the time and ready to support both his emotional world and his medical care. If you are someone who understands sensitive dogs and finds joy in building trust, Ernest is ready to share a deeply loyal and affectionate bond. Could Ernest be the companion you’ve been searching for? To learn more about welcoming Ernest into your family, please reach out at adopt@joyfulpets.com and start a beautiful new journey together!
