Story
Doug arrived at TJO with another German Shepherd Dog. Both pups were scared, but were still friendly to the staff who were attempting to help them. This `Chicken Big` is looking for a place where he can learn how not scary the world is and grow into a confident, dog with strong coping abilities.OTHER PETS: Doug does not do well with other dogs, and will often escalate any reciprocal reactions. He would do best in a home with no other animals. [Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone with experience working with large, fearful dogs, and able to provide positive traning and happy experiences would be Doug's best fit. [Some Experience] KIDS: Doug is very fearful and dislikes hugs, he will jump and push to get away when he feels unsafe. This behavior is not aggressive, but since Doug is a larger pup he might accidentally injure a smaller human. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Going for walks with his new owner will help Doug bond with them as well as ensuring that he gets the physical engagement that he needs to stay healthy. Treat puzzles and different types of enrichment will be an important addition to ensure both physical and mental enrichment. As he gains confidence and learns new skills, a wide variety of dog sports will allow him to try new and fun ways of getting exercise. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Routine Brushing] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Doug trust and bond with his new owner as well as ensuring he has a mastery of basic cues and skills. Doug is friendly but fearful, confidence in himself and trust in his owner will help him overcome his fear. Continuing to reinforce that trust and bond by engaging in further positive training will also open up activity doors for Doug. Doug will need patience and support from his owner, his fearfulness will decrease as his trust increases but expecting a quick change will just set Doug up for failure which we do not want to do. Story
Meet Dexter! A dignified eleven-year-old German Shepherd/Collie mix from Broomall, PA, whose spirit radiates the same youthful joy as a puppy wrapped in a gorgeous tan coat. Dexter is the epitome of loyalty and obedience, a gentle giant who knows his commands—sit, stay, come, and go—like the back of his paw! His intelligence and training make him a joy to have by your side, and he's always eager to show off his good manners. Despite being a senior, Dexter’s zest for life is boundless! He might be blind and living with diabetes, requiring two insulin shots a day, but that doesn’t stop him from embracing every day with a wagging tail and a playful attitude! Dexter loves nothing more than a good chew toy or bone and relishes his daily walks. While dog parks might be a bit overwhelming for him, a quiet stroll through the neighborhood or some quality time lounging in the yard are more his speed. Dexter’s calm and composed demeanor shines through, especially when he's left alone for short periods—he’s perfectly fine and content on his own, though he’ll be overjoyed when you return. Dexter’s blindness hasn’t dimmed his spirit. In fact, it’s made him an even more loving and constant companion! He may not see, but he navigates life with a remarkable sense of trust and love, making him a wonderful companion who’ll stay by your side through thick and thin. He’s friendly to strangers, good with young children, and neutral towards other dogs—he’s the type who’s happy just being around, soaking up the companionship without demanding the spotlight. His ideal new family would be patient, loving, and understanding of his special needs, embracing his daily routine and appreciating his steadfast loyalty. Dexter is ready to bring endless joy and unwavering companionship to a new home, and he’s eagerly waiting to meet a pet parent who can match his gentle, loving nature. Great news for potential adopters, Dexter’s adoption fee has been sponsored by the family! Are you the one who can give Dexter the forever home he needs? If so, he’s ready to become your most loyal friend and constant companion. Contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Dexter today!

Story
Meet Dexter and Emma! A delightful pair of senior companions from Broomall, PA, whose bond is as heartwarming as their personalities are charming. Dexter, an eleven-year-old German Shepherd/Collie mix, and Emma, an eleven-year-old Basenji/American Pitbull Terrier mix, are looking for a loving new home where they can continue their journey together, bringing joy, loyalty, and love to their future family! Dexter is a large, tan-coated gentleman who embodies obedience and devotion. Despite being blind and managing diabetes with two daily insulin shots, Dexter radiates a puppy-like joy that lights up the room. His favorite activities include leisurely walks and savoring his favorite chew toys, and he’s always up for a cuddle session with his human companions! Dexter is a true constant companion, always by your side, ready to offer his quiet presence and gentle affection. He’s a well-trained, medium-energy dog who knows commands like sit, stay, come, and go, making him an easygoing and reliable friend. Though he enjoys the occasional walk, dog parks can be a bit overwhelming for him, so he prefers a more peaceful environment. Dexter is good with other dogs and young children, and he’s unfazed by being left alone for short periods, making him a perfect fit for a calm and patient household. Emma, on the other hand, is a medium-sized, golden beauty with a spunky spirit and a love for life! She adores her chew toys, walks, and especially her visits to the dog park, where she can meet new friends and explore the outdoors. Emma’s playful and affectionate nature shines through in everything she does, though she has a bit of a stubborn streak that only adds to her endearing character. She’s great with other dogs and young children, though babies make her a little nervous, so a family with older children would be a better match for her. Emma is independent but loves affection from her human friends, and she’s happiest in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely roam and play. While she has a form of lupus, she’s currently not on any medication, and her health is stable. This bonded pair offers the best of both worlds—Dexter’s serene and loyal companionship alongside Emma’s playful and affectionate energy. They are ready to bring double the love, double the joy, and double the tail wags into a new loving home! Great news for potential adopters, Dexter and Emma’s adoption fee has been sponsored by the family! Are you ready to welcome Dexter and Emma into your family and experience the heartwarming bond they share? Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Bacchus is a 6mo male German Shepherd Dog mix who was abandoned at a schoolyard in Memphis.   Bacchus lives in the house with his foster family where he's lovingly cared for while awaiting his forever home. Well-socialized, friendly, calm personality, typical GSD temperament. Very confident and never meets a stranger. Growing up around kids and other dogs. LOVES OTHER DOGS! There’s several cats in his foster home but Bacchus is a little too playful with them and sometimes like to chase them, so probably not recommended for cats. Crate trained and housebroken. Medium activity outside, quiet and well-mannered in the house. Good on the leash, rides great in the car. Estimated DOB 3-1-24.  About 45#, healthy, altered and utd on shots. This is an AWESOME young GSD mix who will make a great companion (and jogging partner!) for an active family who loves the breed.. Story
Meet Daunte, a German Shepherd mix. Daunte was taken into Leonberger Rescue Pals because an initial assessment thought he may be a Leo mix. However, once we took him in we realized this was not likely the case, and subsequent DNA testing showed he is about ½ German Shepherd, with the rest a mix of other breeds. He is healthy, and the DNA test screened for some possible genetic problems and all were clear. He is currently around 130# and could stand to lose a bit of that. He initially had a family that was going to adopt him, but there ended up being a long period while they were moving into a new home while we kept Daunte in foster. Unfortunately, after they had a home one of the family. Members was involved in an accident and that made it impossible for them to handle a larger dog safely. Therefore, he remained in foster and is looking for a new home. He is extremely friendly with people. Originally at the shelter he was nervous of people, although did not react badly—no aggression, just a bit fearful. We found that he loves being groomed, and with that he quickly warmed up and gained trust and now he is outgoing and friendly meeting new people. I have not tested him with children, although I expect he would be fine. Of course he is large and fairly active, so it is always a good idea to be cautious when with children until you are sure how they are together. When he first came into foster he was introduced to several other dogs and did fine. However, after a few days he started to pick fights with the other dogs, even though the other dogs were acting properly. I believe he did not have experience living with other dogs, and did not know how to handle being with other dogs. So, after some time he had to be separated from the other dogs. We have done further testing and training and he is much less reactive now. Although we still keep him separated from other dogs, it is possible that he would be OK with some dogs--but that is not certain. He would thrive as an only dog as long as he has human company.

Story
Meet Rocky, a lovable one-year-old Shepherd mix with a heart full of love and a sweet disposition! Rocky's journey began when he was abandoned with a group of dogs in a remote area in central Arkansas. Fortunately, a kind family took pity on the dogs and welcomed them into their home. The family is now fostering Rocky until he finds his forever home, with the help of our rescue group. Rocky is fully vetted, including vaccinations, neutering, heartworm prevention, and microchipping. He thrives on attention and loves to cuddle in your lap, making him the perfect companion for cozy moments. Rocky is very food-motivated, which makes him easy to train, and he adores treats. He loves both dogs and people, but his compatibility with cats is unknown. Rocky is incredibly sweet and deserves a loving family of his own. Transport is available from Arkansas to New England, and his adoption fee is $350, covering the cost of transport. Residents of Arkansas have a lower adoption fee of $175.  If you're looking for a cuddly, trainable, and loving companion, Rocky is ready to bring joy and affection into your life! For questions, you may text us at 501.289.0894, and visit our website at arkanpaws.org. Adopt Rocky and give this sweet boy the loving home he deserves!   2/2         4o ##2130195##
