Story
Are you a fitness enthusiast? Do you need an athletic companion on your hikes or runs? Then, you should meet Willow, a 2yr 6 month old Shepherd. This girl is beautiful, with 2 different colored eyes. And she is incredibly sweet and friendly with humans. She may even be a rare "Panda Shepherd", an exquisite genetic variant within the German Shepherd lineage. Willow is a high energy dog who needs a household who understands the determination and will of German Shepherd behavior. She would benefit from training and discipline. As her "foster mom" I have seen Willow make great strides in learning to walk on a leash and learn basic commands. She is smart and eager to learn. She is motivated by love. It is a dream to hike through forest trails with Willow. I think that I have lost 10 pounds since rescuing her! She is the perfect personal trainer. Willow is so affectionate, she actually wants to be a lap dog despite weighing around 50 lbs. Crate-trained and house-trained, Willow is one smart pup. She knows commands and is a good learner. She should be the only pet in her home, no other dogs or cats please. If you are interested in finding out more about Willow, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: http://bit.ly/2JnZqK5 Willow is being fostered in the Worcester area. The adoption fee is $450. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Meet Pluto! He is about 5 months old, 30 lbs and likely has some Shepherd in his mix. We know once you get to learn more about Pluto, you're going to be over the moon about this galactic gem of a pup!We met Pluto a few months ago and learned that this little guy was suffering from a broken pelvis. With lots of TLC and rest in his foster home, he's had a chance to recover from his injury and now he's ready to find a loving home!Given his young age, he is still learning all his doggie manners and he's looking for an adopter open to spending time continuing his house and crate training as well as helping him learn how to walk on leash. He's BFFs with the cat in his foster home--don't just take our word for it, go watch the video of the 2 of them together! A big people person, Pluto will make a great co-pilot on any and all adventures, and at the end of the day, he'll be ready to snuggle up on the couch to relax. Based on what his foster has shared, he's a good fit for homes with or without other dogs, cats and kids 5+. His foster say, "He was hurt when he first arrived but he is energetic. He loves attention, but he can be separated from you. He wants to bewith you and he loves cuddles and sitting on your lap."He is available for adoption with an approved adopter in N Dartmouth on September 29th. Please fill out an application on our website at https://www.browndogcoalition.com/adoptable as a first step.- Please thoughtfully discuss with your entire household the physical, financial, and emotional responsibilities of a puppy/dog BEFORE applying to adopt.- Puppies/dogs may not be given as gifts or surprises.- More information about our adoption process, application and adoption fee can be found at browndogcoalition.com

Story
When a dog enters GSRNE, that dog becomes family to us for life. We celebrate their adoptions, but we are always here if he or she is in need again. In December 2021, then 7 year old Rikka was happily adopted by a two time previous GSRNE adopter. She lived happily and was loved fiercely by her new mom for a year and a half. This past June, just after Rikka’s 9th birthday, we were devastated to learn that her mom had passed away and Rikka was in need of a home again. We had an experienced foster home who was able to take Rikka right away. Her foster mom has helped Rikka adjust to the loss of her mom and home while helping her shed some weight she gained while living in the lap of luxury. Rikka loves being outdoors and taking walks, especially if there is water involved! She loves her kiddie pool as well as taking a splashy swim at the local river. She is incredibly smart, you can definitely see those shepherd wheels turning with her trademark head tilt. She is well trained and not destructive in the house. She did live with a cat many years ago successfully and may be able to do so again if care is taken with proper introductions. Rikka prefers to be an only dog. Rikka bonds tightly to her people. Because of this, she can be protective and will need an experienced adopter who understands how to handle shepherds with this personality. She does NOT show any reactivity towards her own family. She also does have some arthritis common with age and allergies that have been well managed with medications. Rikka has many fans within GSRNE who have seen the awesome girl she is. We are truly hoping to find the right person or family willing to open their hearts up to a senior dog with a few quirks that will bond to you forever and make you her best friend. GSRNE places dogs in the following New England states: Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Please review adoption requirements prior to inquiring about Rikka https://gsrne.org/requirements-for-adopting-from-gsrne

Story
Guinness is a stunner. He gets compliments on his looks wherever he goes. When this solidly built long-haired dog responds to a recall, he comes running with power, grace, and fluidity. It’s a sight to be seen. Guinness usually loves meeting people and happily accepts pets from them. He enjoys walks around the neighborhood and on the trail. He is also very content to just hang out with his human. Guinness was originally rescued down south after being found tied to a tree, and through no fault of his own, has lived in several homes since then. But he didn’t let his rough start at life affect him and was an affectionate dog from the get go. Guinness found his way to a local family wanting to give him a better life. But, because of life changes, they weren’t able to give him the attention and exercise he needed. They loved him and wanted to make sure they gave him the best life possible so they contacted us. Guinness is sweet and calm around people, young and older. He has good manners and takes treats with due consideration of fingers. He is a love sponge who likes to flop down next to you to cuddle and may even doze off while you gently stroke his luxurious fur. Guinness can be reactive to dogs he doesn’t know, especially when one surprises him. He can cope in such situations if given a chance to see that the other dog is not coming to get him along with treats to teach him to stay focused on you as he moves past the other dog. Guinness did very well in “pack walks” intended to help dogs of any age become better socialized. He also lived with a 3 year old female German Shepherd and an 11 year old (but very spry) male smooth fox terrier and they all got along well. This affectionate dog is ready for his forever home. The ideal owner will commit to continuing his training and understanding what is needed for continued success. We have selected “no” to the question of “good with other dogs” in the stats section of his bio out of abundance of caution but will entertain applicants with other dogs given the information discussed above. If you are the person that understands the importance of training, understands the breed, and are ready to commit to Guinness, he will reward you with love, loyalty, and companionship.

Story
Koda is a lively 1 year old male who has a zest for whatever new challenge or training exercise each new day brings. He’s bright eyed, happy, and social. He’s a friendly dog, very food motivated, and always eager to please. Koda was surrendered to a local trainer when his owner was moving and couldn’t take Koda with him. The trainer quickly found that Koda is a high drive dog and that energy was not being channeled into anything productive. While good natured, Koda lacked manners and structure. Over the next several months, he worked with Koda on basic obedience as well as self control. He introduced Koda to the dog pack at his daycare facility and exposed him to the world at large taking him to places like Home Depot. Koda took to training well and has made tremendous progresses. Now that he is ready, his trainer asked if we could bring Koda into our program to help find him a new home. We were honored to say yes to this special boy. Koda will make a great companion for a German Shepherd savvy person or family (no young children) with an active lifestyle. His family must be committed to providing structure and continuing Koda’s training. That person/family will be rewarded with years of loyalty and adventures.

Story
Audie is a happy 6 year old male who enjoys being with his people as much as possible. Audie’s original owner surrendered him to a shelter when he needed to move in with his elderly mother as he was worried the big dog could knock her over accidentally. The shelter staff called us as they really liked him and wanted to find a more suitable place for him as he was showing kennel stress. Luckily, we had an available temporarily foster home who was able to take Audie out of the kennel environment. When the transporter arrived, there were heartfelt goodbyes for this lovable guy and the transporter joked she was tempted to bring him home herself. Once in his longer term foster home, Audie has successfully decompressed and been a wonderful guest. He has enjoyed going on pack walks with other dogs, gently and curiously met the farm animals at the foster’s home, and has brushed up his basic training of which he already had a good foundation. Audie has a good energy level and will do well with a person or family who will keep his mind and body active. After a fun filled day, he will snuggle up next to his people or just hang out near you in his bed. His new family will need to be patient with him, allow him time to adjust, and keep up his training. Once accustomed to you and your lifestyle, Audie will be your loyal companion. Apply to meet this great boy today.
