Story
Im looking to rehome my boy, his name is Thor he is a very happy and loving dog.He is a very energetic dog, really gentle with kids and understands English and Spanish.Unfortunately I have to move out from the place I leave and it would be very difficult to rent an apartment or place with a large dog and a toddler. So I would love to find a good family that will take good care of him.

Story
Bought him from a store in Norwalk and ever since then I’ve had problems with my family not liking him. They all get annoyed by his presence and when he does things like barking or would have accidents here and there it would turn into a huge thing. But along with that I’m also not able to properly tend to his needs and it was a huge miscalculation on my part because I thought my family would help but they’re not and refuse to. I work early and come back late and I’m not able to walk him out give him as much attention as I should be, not even close and I just want a better home for him. As long as I’m guaranteed a home that will take care of his needs I’ll be content and okay.

Story
You won't find a more handsome, intelligent or silly boy than Sidney. He is about 3.5 years old and weighs 84 lbs. Sidney is a very intelligent fellow, he learns quicky and is anxious to please. He will do well with a job and/or a lot of stimulation, long walks and hikes. He will do well with an experienced dog person. Sidney loves meeting new people. He has done well with large dogs he has met, however he is would not be good with small dogs or cats. Sidney does show some barrier reactivity, however, when the barrier is removed (whether it is a crate, fence or car window) he shows absolutely no issues. Because Sidney likes a lot of activity, he will need a securely fenced yard (must be a physical fence, not an electric or invisible system) He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and on monthly treatment for flea/ticks and heartworm prevention Sidney is currently located in the Middle TN area but transport is included in the adoption fee for approved adopter If you are interested in Sidney, email rookiesrescue@yahoo.com for an application

Story
Auggie first came to the shelter in June 2022, under-socialized, and deeply unsure of the world around him. He was scared, overwhelmed, and clearly hadn’t had the chance to know what it means to feel safe. We gave him time with quiet walks and gentle introductions at his own pace. Slowly, Auggie began to trust, showing glimpses of the sweet, sensitive dog we knew he could be. He was adopted not long after, and for a time, we hoped his story had found its happy ending. But in June 2023, Auggie was returned. And while he came back with more confidence than before, he also came back a little more guarded, as if unsure whether he could trust again. Can you blame him? These days, Auggie is letting personality shine through. He’s not the same shut-down pup we first met but he still needs a patient, understanding home where he can continue to build confidence. Auggie’s ideal family will offer calm, structure and consistency. He’ll thrive with someone who will guide him gently through new experiences and continue training to help him feel secure, especially around resource guarding. With routine and reassurance, we know Auggie can continue to grow into the wonderful companion. If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220#shepherdmix #auggiedoggy #shepherdrescue #Adoptme #adoptionistheoption #adoptable #longislanddogparents

Story
Grizzly is a stunning German Shepherd mix who’s been quietly blossoming more confident each day. When he first arrived, the shelter was overwhelming, but now he eagerly heads out for walks sitting politely to be leashed and proudly showing off his “sit” and “paw.” As he learns to trust, Grizzly offers soft, sweet eye contact and gentle connection with his people. He walks nicely on leash, though loud noises can still make him uneasy, and he’s been friendly with strangers outside his kennel. Grizzly would thrive in a teens-only home with someone who understands shepherds and can provide the patience, structure, and reassurance he needs to feel safe and secure. If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York#Adoptme #adoptionistheoption #takemehome #adoption #rescue #rescueismyfavoritebreed #opttoadopt

Story
Meet Tommy & Baby a bonded pair looking for their fresh start together. These two were part of a local rescue our team facilitated in Queens. Both are about 3 years young, good with other dogs, and would do best in an adult-only home for now. Because of their past, Tommy and Baby need a super special adopter. We believe they were previously abused and mostly lived outside, so they require a home with significant breed experience and rescue-dog savvy. They will need continued training, exposure, and structure as they settle into their new lives. Tommy is a handsome, confident boy, while Baby is more timid around people and needs time to warm up — but she blossoms with patience and understanding. Together, they bring out the best in each other, which is why we are committed to placing them as a bonded pair. If you are interested in meeting Tommy & Baby, please submit an adoption application directly on our website. Note: we will not process applications without proper breed and overall experience.

Story
Darcy's Story Meet Darcy , a beautiful 4 year young girl with a heart as warm as the island she came from. Darcy was rescued from the Cayman Islands, and her sister Danielle has already found her forever home through us. Now it’s Darcy’s turn to shine and finally get the family she deserves. We’re told she’s a Dutch Shepherd/Collie mix, and she has the perfect blend of sweetness and playfulness. Darcy absolutely LOVES to play ball , she’ll chase it, bring it back, and be ready for the next throw with that happy, eager sparkle in her eyes. She also enjoys doing zoomies around the yard and then settling in for snuggles. Darcy has a quiet, gentle personality that makes her easy to love. She’s wonderful with children, great with other dogs, and happiest when she’s close to her people. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and devoted companion, Darcy just might be your perfect match. If you’d like to give this Cayman sweetheart her forever home, please submit an application at almosthomeli.org.
