You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please note that we can not guarantee the age, expected weight or breed of any animal. What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners. If breed and eventual size are of great importance we suggest looking into a breed specific rescue or adopting a full grown animal. Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY.  Meet Popsicle  Popsicle is an 8-month-old, 34 lb bundle of happiness who is ready to bring fun, love, and a whole lot of tail wags into your life. This handsome young pup is friendly with people and great with other dogs—he’s the kind of guy who wants to say hello to everyone he meets. On leash, Popsicle is easy to handle and happily trots along, stopping to greet his canine friends along the way. Like any puppy, Popsicle is still learning his manners. He can get a little jumpy when he’s excited and loves to play, but he settles quickly and is eager to please. With a little guidance and consistency, he’s going to grow into an amazing companion. Popsicle is a medium-energy pup who enjoys activity but also loves affection. He’s very food-motivated, takes treats enthusiastically, and absolutely soaks up attention. When spending time with him, he happily accepted pets on his head and neck, wagging his tail the entire time with his sweet, friendly demeanor shining through. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate young dog who is ready to learn and grow with you, Popsicle might just be your perfect match.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 3, 2026, 10:56 am

Story
Bruce is a typical German Shepherd with a high food and ball drive. Shows protective instincts. Loves fetch and sniffing games like sniffing for treats around the home. Fully crate and potty trained. No accidents. Does not mark in the home. He's had some training and knows basic commands. He is learning leash manners and working on heel. He has some fear reactivity /stranger danger feelings. Barks/growls protectively at guests entering the home. Okay to meet guests outside and walk in together. Not great with cats. And may be too much for a home with young kids. Does well with older kids. He needs an experienced owner who can give him a job or sport. Loves to chase his ball and frisbee. Loves to be brushed and pampered.

Story
Meet Tommy & Baby a bonded pair looking for their fresh start together. These two were part of a local rescue our team facilitated in Queens. Both are about 3 years young, good with other dogs, and would do best in an adult-only home for now. Because of their past, Tommy and Baby need a super special adopter. We believe they were previously abused and mostly lived outside, so they require a home with significant breed experience and rescue-dog savvy. They will need continued training, exposure, and structure as they settle into their new lives. Tommy is a handsome, confident boy, while Baby is more timid around people and needs time to warm up — but she blossoms with patience and understanding. Together, they bring out the best in each other, which is why we are committed to placing them as a bonded pair. If you are interested in meeting Tommy & Baby, please submit an adoption application directly on our website. Note: we will not process applications without proper breed and overall experience.

Story
Darcy's Story Meet Darcy , a beautiful 4 year young girl with a heart as warm as the island she came from. Darcy was rescued from the Cayman Islands, and her sister Danielle has already found her forever home through us. Now it’s Darcy’s turn to shine and finally get the family she deserves. We’re told she’s a Dutch Shepherd/Collie mix, and she has the perfect blend of sweetness and playfulness. Darcy absolutely LOVES to play ball , she’ll chase it, bring it back, and be ready for the next throw with that happy, eager sparkle in her eyes. She also enjoys doing zoomies around the yard and then settling in for snuggles. Darcy has a quiet, gentle personality that makes her easy to love. She’s wonderful with children, great with other dogs, and happiest when she’s close to her people. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and devoted companion, Darcy just might be your perfect match. If you’d like to give this Cayman sweetheart her forever home, please submit an application at almosthomeli.org.
