Grizzly is a beautiful 3.5 year-old German Shepherd mix. While he was very nervous upon coming to the shelter, day by day he is becoming more comfortable and now realizes once the leash is on, he shows no resistance and loves to go for walks. He even sits before being leashed, and even knows `sit` and `paw`. Grizzly is starting to offer soft, sweet eye contact and learning to trust those around him! Grizzly walks well on a leash (though loud sounds still make him quite nervous) and has been friendly toward strangers outside of his kennel. He hasn’t shown interest in playing just yet, likely due to anxiety in the new environment, but he’s shown curiosity about toys. Grizzly would do best in a home with teens,16 and older. Auggie first came to the shelter in June 2022, under-socialized, and deeply unsure of the world around him. He was scared, overwhelmed, and clearly hadn’t had the chance to know what it means to feel safe. We gave him time with quiet walks and gentle introductions at his own pace. Slowly, Auggie began to trust, showing glimpses of the sweet, sensitive dog we knew he could be. He was adopted not long after, and for a time, we hoped his story had found its happy ending. But in June 2023, Auggie was returned. And while he came back with more confidence than before, he also came back a little more guarded, as if unsure whether he could trust again. Can you blame him? These days, Auggie is letting personality shine through. He’s not the same shut-down pup we first met but he still needs a patient, understanding home where he can continue to build confidence. Auggie’s ideal family will offer calm, structure and consistency. He’ll thrive with someone who will guide him gently through new experiences and continue training to help him feel secure, especially around resource guarding. She likes laying down next to you when you are watching tv and likes to be near her person as much as possible! Coco takes a while warming up to new people but seems particularly fond of men 😉 Children and strangers make her uncomfortable so a quiet, adult only household is recommended.
