Story
Ace is a very loving energetic German Shepherd. He enjoys being outside, playing ball, long walks, playing in water and just to be close to his owners. I work a lot so he is home alone a lot, he is not crated and does well home alone. He does go potty outside however I had him paper trained when he was a puppy so sometimes he reverts back to going on one of my mats in the kitchen. He is very protective of his home & family, He is a barker when he sees someone unfamiliar and it takes him a little time to adjust to new people being in the home. He hasn't had much interaction with other dogs but has been loving in any situation where he was introduced to another dog. He licked a strangers face while on a walk recently, so I have no doubt he will not be aggressive in any way unless he is protecting his family. He knows basic commands and is a fast learner. Belly rubs are his favorite. He is the goodest boy, just requires a lot of attention and room to run!

Story
This is Pintas, we were asked to help this girl. The finder had been feeding her for a while trying to get her help and off the mean streets of RGV (Rio Grande Valley) where very bad things happen to animals all the time. She didn't have any luck and one day about 2 mos ago the finder went outside to feed Pintas and found that she couldn't walk or stand up. Pintas was hit by a car and left on the side of the road like trash in severe pain and to die alone. Pintas finder rushed her to the vet where we then learned that pintas had a fractured pelvis. We also learned at that time that Pintas was heartworm positive. She had to wait until she healed to be spayed. She will be scheduled in the coming week. Once she heals from spay surgery she will then start heartworm treatment. Puntas has made such stride and progress when the vets didn't have much hope for a 100% recovery. Pintas now can run, jump and play. Something the vet didn't expect to happen. They said that she would need surgery but Pintas proved them all wrong. She will be available for adoption once she finishes her heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting Pintas please send us a message or you can apply directly at coalmountain.org ##1454970##

Story
Please everyone meet Tucker. He is one of the gsd mix puppies that was dumped on the side of the road with their mom in RGV. The foster drove hours away to save them from the cruel streets. They were severely under weight when they entered care. Mom and her babies have been with their foster since day one and are finally healthy enough to leave for their forever homes. Tucker is current on vaccines and flea and tick meds, he will be neutered prior to adoption. Tucker is located in Texas but transport is available for an approved adopter. You can also apply on our website at coalmountain.org to get pre-approved ##1486049##

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Tiffany is a 7 yr old, gorgeous, female German Shepherd was surrendered due to a move. She and another German Shepherd, Candy (also adoptable), came from the same home where they were kept outside in a kennel. We suspect they were used for breeding purposes only. They came in needing years worth of brushing and a good bath. They were petrified. Neither seemed to have ever been on a leash. It took weeks for them to first acclimate to the shelter enough to trust staff to move them from their kennels to the play yard and another couple of weeks to get them to be less of a flight risk to walk on a leash.Since they arrived in early July, they have made wonderful strides and are amazed how much bigger the world is! So many new & interesting smells and things to see, not to mention how good they feel after being cleaned up! They are finally relaxed enough to know what it means to be loved by people and soak up the attention like a sponge!Tiffany will need an experienced & patient family. While she does not have a mean bone in her body, a home without small children may be best as she is not used to home life and children may not understand her need for space. Tiffany and Candy get along well with each other, but we are not sure if Tiffany will be able to be placed with a different dog or not. Tiffany is spayed, vaccinated, & chipped. If interested in Tiffany or both, contact Vicki@nokillarc.org or 570-784-3669 ext 1. To expedite the adoption process, you may fill out the Adoption Pre-Approval Form on our website at www.nokillarc.org

Story
Oh, Gertie. Sweet, sweet Gertie. Gertie came to our shelter as a stray and has since charmed all the staff who work with her. If you're looking for a furry friend who loves back scratches and taking a slow stroll in the great outdoors, Gertie is for you. She is blind in one eye and is estimated to be 12 years old but she is just pure sweetness. Gertie seems to do well with other dogs and has been friendly with everyone she has met. She is spayed, microchipped & up to date on all vaccinations. If interested in giving Gertie a loving home to rest her head at night; please go to our website: www.nokillarc.org to fill out a pre-approval form (it can be found under the ‘adoptable dogs' section).
