The first available day to schedule an appointment to see me would be Wednesday the 4th. He came to the rescue through no fault of his own and is now looking for a new place to call home. Ringo is already showing himself to be a truly nice dog. Despite all the recent changes in his life, he’s handling things with a gentle, easygoing demeanor and is slowly settling into the shelter environment. He has lived in a home before and did well with both small dogs and cats, which speaks to his ability to coexist peacefully with other animals. Big in size but kind at heart, Ringo would love a patient home that will give him the time and stability he needs to fully decompress. With consistency, love, and a comfy spot to land, this sweet boy’s personality is sure to continue shining through. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a calm presence and a lot of love to give, Ringo may be the perfect match.

Story
Meet Chase Chase is a handsome 2-year-old shepherd with beautiful sable fur, weighing around 70 pounds. He’s a sweet, gentle guy who has just joined us and is settling into his new routine. Chase has a condition called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), which means he will need to be on a life-long enzyme powder to help him digest his food properly. He is still a bit skinny for his size, as he just started treatment, but we are working on helping him gain weight and build strength. Despite his health needs, Chase has shown himself to be a really nice dog. He enjoys outdoor time, where he goes to potty and play with a female dog, and seems to do well with female companions. He would benefit from training and daily exercise to help him gain confidence, build good habits, and stay active and healthy. Chase is looking for a family who can provide consistent care, daily enrichment, and the love he deserves — including the commitment to his enzyme therapy. With the right guidance and support, this sweet boy has the potential to thrive and become a loyal, joyful companion.

Story
Meet Caspian Caspian is a lively 1½-year-old long-coated black-and-tan shepherd, weighing around 50 pounds. He’s a new arrival, coming to us as a shelter transfer from the South after being picked up as a stray at his previous shelter. So far, Caspian has shown himself to be very active and full of energy. He loves spending time outside, exploring, and playing, and he would greatly benefit from daily exercise and consistent guidance. To help him grow into a well-mannered companion, Caspian will need to be enrolled in obedience classes — he’s smart and ready to learn, but he needs structure and training to thrive. Caspian is looking for a patient, active family who can give him the exercise, training, and love he deserves. With the right home, this energetic young guy has the potential to become a devoted and joyful companion.

The first available day to schedule an appointment to see me would be Wednesday the 4th. I'll see ya later! --- 1/18/26: Axel is a 6-year-old German Shepherd weighing just under 100 pounds. As far as we know, Axel’s life before coming to us was one of isolation — living on a chain, exposed to the elements, and deprived of the basic care every dog deserves. He was removed from that situation and Axel is now fully in our custody. Axel is brand new to Char-Wills, and we are still getting to know him. As we spend more time with Axel, we will continue learning about his personality, preferences, and quirks, and his bio will be updated to reflect what we discover along the way. Saving a dog like Axel is both an honor and a heartbreak. When given a bed, shelter, consistent food, and genuine love, he showed us just how much goodness still lives inside him. It makes the reality of his situation unimaginably difficult. Axel has done well with every animal we’ve tested him with so far, though we believe he could clash with a dominant male in a home environment. He already knows some basic commands and has shown himself to be intelligent and eager to learn. Despite his past, Axel appears to be house-trained — he has never soiled his kennel, which speaks volumes about his awareness and self-control. Axel is a smart dog with clear potential. With training, socialization, neutering, and continued structure, there is reason to believe some of his challenges could improve. Dogs like Axel remind us how resilient they are — and how deeply they can bond once shown kindness.

Story
Meet Rosie Rosie recently joined Char-Wills after being rescued from a puppy mill. She arrived very scared and underweight but is slowly starting to settle in and show her gentle nature. Rosie is suspected to have Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), a manageable condition that requires lifelong enzyme supplements added to her food to help her properly digest nutrients. Our team is happy to help guide adopters through managing this condition. She is undersocialized and will need a patient, understanding adopter willing to give her time to build confidence and learn that people can be safe. Rosie may also benefit from a calm, friendly dog to help show her the ropes. Rosie is still very new to the rescue, and we are continuing to learn more about her as she settles in. Updates will be shared as we get to know her better.
