You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!UPDATE 3/5/2024:  Buddy is having some issues being 'stiff' but as long as you don't have stairs he does great.  He does guard his toys but if you do a trade with a snack he will give them up :)  Looking for a GS experienced ownerUPDATE:  Buddy is looking fantastic!!  He is a little 'stiff' in his old age but I told him its OK so am I!  He LOVES attention, he likes his toys and he is great with the dogs although I think he would be just as happy as an only dog he does fine with all the dogs here at the ranch :)I can only imagine how Buddy must have felt...  Like no one cared, defeated, ready to give up, a banquet for fleas and tics :(  It took us quite a while to get him back to health and still he deals with ear infections from repeated ones not being treated :(  No worries now big man you are loved and valued!Buddy you have your 2nd Chance and we are going to give you an amazing life!!REQUIRES FENCED YARD!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!July 19, 2024, 11:57 am

Story
This remarkable dog was discovered abandoned in a rural area where he had endured exposure to the rain for an indeterminate period. Concerned passersby initially suspected he was injured, but upon my arrival, he eagerly hopped into my car and indulged in an entire box of treats. He's proven to be the most entertaining, affectionate, and intelligent companion I've ever encountered. His teeth bear the marks of neglect rather than age-related wear, and we estimate his age to be around 4-5 years. He adores car rides, and walks, and remains a loyal, dependable companion who never strays far. He is fully house-trained, adept at using a pet door, and gets along famously with other dogs. One of his ears has a distinctive appearance due to a past illness or injury that went untreated, but our vet has addressed it, and it appears to be in good condition now, although it will retain its unique appearance. If you're interested in welcoming Knuckles or any of our Funny Farm friends into your home, please visit funnyfarmpets.org to learn more about our Tennessee-based rescue, the adoption process, the comprehensive vetting procedures these pets undergo before they come to your home, and to submit an adoption application. The adoption fee for this pet is $325, and an additional $200 is required for transport. Currently located in a foster home in Tennessee, this pet will be transported to a northern location after the adoption process is finalized. For details on meeting locations and the transport process, please visit the transport tab at funnyfarmpets.org.

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. Stella is an amazing dog, pretty low key and sweet. Don’t pass this one by! From her foster mom: “Stella is such a sweetheart. Not much of a barker. If she isn’t playing with her foster siblings she is usually sleeping on the floor somewhere near me. Even though she is about 60lb she still likes to sit in your lap and snuggle. She also likes to sleep close to you. She is medium to low energy. She knows sit and stay. She is doing great with house training. For the most part she doesn’t have accidents. Just the occasional accident if we are gone from the house longer than expected.” She is treat motivated. She does very good on the leash. She plays well with the other dogs in the house. She has seen cats through the baby gate and sniffed them through the gate with no reaction. We believe she’d be fine with cats. She is a loving, sweet girl who is gentle and loves to give hugs. She is good with other dogs as well as kids. Stella is about 2-3 years old and weighs 60lbs. Spayed, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Shepherd mix or Rottie mix? We aren't sure! In New England. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Updated info as of 7/10/24:   This boy is a great dog who deserves a family of his own. He is the last of his litter available, even his momma is adopted! It's rare that the momma is adopted before all of her puppies are! Snoopy is AMAZING with all other dogs. He gets along great with every dog he has met. He just truly loves other dogs and prefers dogs over people! LOLIf you’re looking for a playmate for your current dog, he’d be an excellent choice. He is great with kids!Good leash manners!Enjoys car rides and rides like a good boy (usually)! My favorite….SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT Crate trained, almost house trained. Very close to being fully house trained!Loves toys. Typical puppy in that he wants to steal things like slippers, shoes, or socks from the laundry basket, though this is getting better. Very go with the flow personality/adaptable and forgiving. Up for anything. He is a medium-high energy dog. He doesn't need extreme amounts of exercise in a day, however, he needs a few good walks every day along with playtime. Once he's gotten some of his energy out, he will usually nap or entertain himself with toys. If you like to walk, jog/run, or hike, he'd be a great partner. Neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccines, on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.Estimated DOB 11/15/23), weighs about 50 pounds. I don't expect him to get a whole lot bigger, he may fill out a bit more. Probably 60-65 pounds once he's fully done growing. A DNA test done on one of his littermates shows 55% German Shepherd, 28% Staffordshire Terrier, 9% American Pit Bull, 5% Plott Hound, 2% Border Collie, 1% Chihuahua! He is a wonderful boy and more than ready to find his forever home. In New England. Story
Hey there, my name is Bruce! I'm a young Shepherd mix looking for a new home. I did not come to the shelter under the best conditions but they are working to help me heal and learn to trust. I am very shy but with some patience and TLC I warm up and I am very sweet. I would like a home that has experience working with shy dog. I ask any children in the home be over 13 years old due to my shyness and fear of new people. I could get along with another dog with a proper introduction and I am open to living with a cat with a slow intro as well. If you think you could give me the home I deserve then come down and lets meet. ---This dog is living in a foster home and available by appointment only. Please complete an application online at pspca.org to schedule a visit.---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603Kennel #16516717-917-6979lancaster@pspca.org
