Story
Meet MelodyAge: 3 yearsBreed: Shepherd MixMelody is a gentle soul searching for the forever home she’s always deserved. She came to the shelter underweight, matted, and clearly not well cared for. Thanks to the kindness of Barbie at Bubbles and Bark, Melody received the care she so desperately needed—her dirty, matted coat was removed, leaving her fresh, clean, and feeling much better. We believe Melody likely lived as an outdoor dog with little to no prior home training. Despite her past, she has shown incredible resilience and is now thriving in a loving foster home. Her foster is patiently working with her on housebreaking and kennel manners, and Melody continues to make progress with consistency and compassion.Melody is a quiet, sensitive girl who will do best with an adopter who is patient, gentle, and understanding, someone willing to meet her where she is and help her learn what it means to be a cherished family member. She hasn’t had the easiest start in life, but with the right person, she has the potential to blossom into a devoted and loving companion. She has met a few dogs and seems to prefer very mellow, low-key canine companions who respect her space. We do not recommend a home with active dogs or small children, as she thrives in calm, predictable environments. If you’re looking to truly change a life and give a deserving dog the love and stability she’s been missing, Melody may be your perfect match. She’s ready to be treated like the queen she is.?? To meet Melody, please email PRAS-FOSTER@NNVA.GOV to connect with her foster home.

Story
Meet Benjamin (Benny)Age: 10 monthsBreed: Shepherd MixStatus: Available-Foster CareBenjamin—better known as Benny—is a sweet, goofy, high-energy puppy who is ready to find an active forever home. His foster family describes him as the sweetest boy with a big personality and an even bigger love for his people.Benny loves to play and would thrive in a home with another playful, dog-friendly dog. He has shown great social skills by being respectful of boundaries, even with a current canine housemate who isn’t very interested in making friends. Benny is very passive by nature and takes cues well from other dogs.He is currently working on housebreaking and is partially trained. His foster is helping him learn cues to let his people know when he needs to go outside, and he continues to make progress. Benny is great for baths, isn’t a big barker, and loves interactive games like tug-of-war.This puppy is an enthusiastic chewer and an official toy destroyer, so he’ll need durable, tough toys to keep him happy. He adores balls (even if they still confuse and amaze him), enjoys digging—something his foster family is actively working on—and brings plenty of laughs with his goofy antics.Benny is affectionate and a little jealous, preferring to soak up as much attention as possible. He loves being by his person’s side and thrives on connection. Like many puppies, he isn’t fully aware of his size yet and may jump up when excited, so continued training and consistency will be important. He has been around a cat who wanted nothing to do with him. Benny was very curious but not aggressive, and would need continued guidance and supervision in a home with cats. With his high energy level, Benny will do best in a very active home committed to training, structure, and plenty of physical and mental enrichment. In return, he’ll give endless loyalty, laughter, and love.If you’re looking for an energetic, affectionate companion and are ready for the fun and work of a growing puppy, Benny may be your perfect match.

Story
Sometimes it’s hard to understand how the world can fail animals the way it does. How does a stunning pair of 7-month-old, purebred German Shepherd sisters end up wandering as strays in a quiet rural Tennessee town? Yet that’s exactly how Luna’s story began.  Luna is the more shy and observant of the two sisters, but her joyful spirit shines through immediately. At 46 pounds, she already carries herself with a calm, sweetnes that tells you what a great companion she will make a family.   She walks beautifully on a leash, is crate trained, and rides like a pro in the car. Despite everything she’s been through, Bella remains happy, affectionate, and easy to connect with. She lives peacefully alongside cats and dogs of all sizes and blends into new environments with impressive ease. Luna is not hyper or unruly — she is thoughtful, observant, and ready to learn. With continued confidence-building and positive reinforcement, she will grow into an incredible adult German Shepherd, likely reaching 70–75 pounds.  Luna and her sister Bella were never claimed, and after waiting weeks with no one coming for them, they were released into the care of Critter Cavalry Rescue. We made them a promise — to find them experienced, loving, German Shepherd-savvy homes where they can thrive. A fenced yard is required, as well as adopters committed to gentle guidance, training, and building trust. Luna is a wonderful fresh young life  ready to be molded into a loyal, well-mannered companion.  She and Bella are ready to be home for Christmas — warm beds, loving people, and a future they deserve.       Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting our special. Luna   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 23, 2025, 12:34 am

Story
Auntie Em is a beautiful, German Shepherd Dog/Pitbull mix (50/50 according to the DNA test). Her dark Brindle coat and copper eyes are simply stunning - this girl turns heads! She is about 3.5 years old and weighs 64 pounds. She is very smart, obedient, powerful, and full of energy. If you are interested, please research both breeds. High energy, working dogs require a lot of exercise and stimuli. Auntie Em is very particular with other animals. She has interacted with various sized dogs. Sometimes it's playful, sometimes it's not. She does not like when other dogs get in her face or show any excitement or dominance. There is not a lot of warning when she's upset. A new owner will have to work with her and learn her cues and how to redirect her. Her prey drive is there for little furry things too, therefore no kitties. Em would do best as the only pet. She has loved all the people she has met so far with proper introduction. She is CRAZY food motivated. Em will eat anything, but chicken seems to make her itchy. Poultry free diet for this girl! She is gentle when taking treats, but is a bit protective of her bowl and yummy treats. Because of this and her occasional bursts of energy (zoomies), no children under 12 in the household for this gal. Em will definitely benefit from some obedience training to polish her manners. She does know some basic commands. She will go in a crate, but she does not love it. Em can be trusted in the house alone as long as she has her toys. She LOVES her toys. She also loves to hang out on the couch and on the bed if you will let her. Em will go in the car just fine - she is a little anxious at first, but settles down. She is micro-chipped, UTD on vaccines and spayed. She does get seasonal allergies too, but it is easily controlled with medication as needed. Em is going to make a wonderful pet for the right owner. Is it you? If you are interested, please fill out an application on www.homesfurhounds.org.
