Story
Auntie Em is a beautiful, German Shepherd Dog/Pitbull mix (50/50 according to the DNA test). Her dark Brindle coat and copper eyes are simply stunning - this girl turns heads! She is about 3.5 years old and weighs 64 pounds. She is very smart, obedient, powerful, and full of energy. If you are interested, please research both breeds. High energy, working dogs require a lot of exercise and stimuli. Auntie Em is very particular with other animals. She has interacted with various sized dogs. Sometimes it's playful, sometimes it's not. She does not like when other dogs get in her face or show any excitement or dominance. There is not a lot of warning when she's upset. A new owner will have to work with her and learn her cues and how to redirect her. Her prey drive is there for little furry things too, therefore no kitties. Em would do best as the only pet. She has loved all the people she has met so far with proper introduction. She is CRAZY food motivated. Em will eat anything, but chicken seems to make her itchy. Poultry free diet for this girl! She is gentle when taking treats, but is a bit protective of her bowl and yummy treats. Because of this and her occasional bursts of energy (zoomies), no children under 12 in the household for this gal. Em will definitely benefit from some obedience training to polish her manners. She does know some basic commands. She will go in a crate, but she does not love it. Em can be trusted in the house alone as long as she has her toys. She LOVES her toys. She also loves to hang out on the couch and on the bed if you will let her. Em will go in the car just fine - she is a little anxious at first, but settles down. She is micro-chipped, UTD on vaccines and spayed. She does get seasonal allergies too, but it is easily controlled with medication as needed. Em is going to make a wonderful pet for the right owner. Is it you? If you are interested, please fill out an application on www.homesfurhounds.org.

Story
Meet Toffee !! This beautiful girl and her sister Coffee (posted separately) found themselves in danger at a shelter. They are looking for separate homes. Toffee is a 8 month old, female, Shepherd mix. She weighs 35 pounds and is not yet fully grown. She will be vaccinated, microchipped and spayed as part of her adoption. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. This sweet girl was absolutely terrified and shut down when she arrived. She has made huge progress in just a short time. She will definitely need a patient and understanding family. She can be very fearful of new things but despite being petrified she has never tried to bite or been aggressive. Toffee is a very sweet and loving girl that attaches herself to you once she feels safe. She looks to you for guidance and confidence. She loves other dogs to play with and they really help her with her fear. She’s a playful puppy trapped behind initial fears of new things. She has been fantastic with all other dogs she’s met both big and small. She hasn’t been around cats here so we aren’t sure how she would do. She likes to play hard and can irritate dogs that don’t like a playful dog. She is starting to take cues when other dogs are annoyed with her. She is sweet and loving but needs space at first so slightly older kids may be best so they can understand that. Once she feels safe she can be an excited jumper. Toffee came to us scared and had never been on a leash. It was also apparent she had been stuck crated for long periods and was made to pee and poop in there. She is learning but it will take time due to her history. She’s doing better about potty training when let out regularly. She has made good improvements with the leash but is far from leash trained. When using a hardness and secure lead she is starting to get it. She will still have moments of fear where she will stop walking or flail a bit. She is crate trained and doesn’t try to escape. She does well on car rides but is scared about getting in. She has allowed us to pick her up and move her wherever we need her to go even in her moments of panic. She’s steadily gaining trust so we know her training will fall in line with time. Toffee has a medium every level. This may increase as her confidence does. She loves to be outside. She loves toys, balls and running zoomies around the yard. She enjoys playing but is also big on her nap time and relaxing. A good mix of fun and chill. She’s higher energy outside and more calm inside. We think she’s going to end up being a very fun loving dog. We have not seen any issues with her sharing toys, treats or food with humans or other animals. She takes treats very gently. Toffee is under socialized and will take a caring dedicated owner to work through it with her. She will take some time to trust you fully and may regress on training during the transition into your home. Please do not adopt her if you’re not willing to work with her. It will set her back to have someone that’s not serious bounce her in and out of their home. She needs trust and stability. Toffee needs you to earn her trust but after she does you get a fun happy playful puppy that is glued to you and so loyal. Vet and home checks required. Fenced yard required 5ft or higher Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response and more pics visit our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Meet Coffee !! This beautiful girl and her sister Toffee (posted separately) found themselves in danger at a shelter. They are looking for separate homes. Coffee is a 8 month old, female, Shepherd mix. She weighs 41 pounds and is not yet fully grown. She will be vaccinated, microchipped and spayed as part of her adoption. She loves other dogs to play with and they really help her with her fear. She’s a playful puppy trapped behind initial fears of new things. She has been fantastic with all other dogs she’s met both big and small. The other dogs are the reason she is learning and trusting so well. She follows their lead and tries to study what they do. She plays with both large and small dogs but does much better with large ones as she is a little rough playing. She will need another dog in the home as it helps her so much. She hasn’t been around cats here so we aren’t sure how she would do. She is sweet and loving but needs space at first. A less chaotic household with older kids may be best so they can understand that. Coffee came to us scared and had never been on a leash. It was also apparent she had been stuck crated for long periods and was made to pee and poop in there. She is learning but it will take time due to her history. She’s doing better about potty training. Once she works through the fear and understands where she has to go she has no accidents. She will nervous tinkle at first until she trusts you. She is to afraid to potty on the leash and likes to do her business privately when you’re not watching. Due to this a fenced yard is required. She has made good improvements with the leash but is far from leash trained. When using a hardness and secure lead she is starting to get it. She will still have moments of fear where she will stop walking or flail a bit. Coffee is crate trained and doesn’t try to escape. She’s quiet in the crate and will use it as a safe space. She’s slept in the crate overnight and also in bed with people. She likes to cuddle and be close to you on her terms as she learns to trust people again. She does okay on car rides but is scared about getting in and can be nervous on the ride. She has allowed us to pick her up and move her wherever we need her to go even in her moments of panic. It will set her back to have someone that’s not serious bounce her in and out of their home. She needs trust and stability. Coffee needs some work but she will repay you with so much loyalty. Story
Hi there! My name is FeFe, and I’m a 6-year-old German Shepherd looking for my forever home! I’m 82 pounds of black and tan floof. I know I’m a big girl, but my foster mom says there’s just more of me to love! I’m spayed, heartworm negative, and fully vaccinated, so I’m healthy and ready to go home with you! I’m a goofy and loving dog who is always up for a good time. I love to play fetch and chew on bones, and I’m always eager to learn new tricks. My foster parents recently took me dock diving. I did so well that the instructor told them to enter competitions with me! I’m very smart and energetic, so I’m looking for someone who can keep up with me! It would be best if you have experience with shepherds or other herding breeds like me. I’m house and crate trained, and my foster mom has been working with me on my leash manners. I get nervous around people and animals that I don’t know, so I’m looking for a home where I can be the only pet. I’m nice to kids but because I’m so big (and sometimes a little clumsy), I’d do best in a home with teenagers instead of small children. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion, I’m your girl! I’m being fostered in Portsmouth, VA and adopters will need to meet me in person prior to adoption. Complete an application to learn more about me! *Must be 21 or older to apply.
