Story
Meet Ace! At 10 1/2 years young and 65 pounds, Ace is proof that age is just a number. This handsome boy is sweet, polite, friendly, and already knows how to be a great housemate. He’s fully housetrained, has good manners around the house, and is happiest when he’s spending time with his people. Ace enjoys a simple life filled with walks, exploring the yard, carrying around his favorite stuffed toys, and keeping an eye out for squirrels and other backyard critters. He especially loves car rides and is always ready to join you for an adventure. When treats are involved, Ace can even show off his impressive skill of catching them right out of the air. He’s a smart dog who knows cues such as “come,” “sit,” “wait,” and “get on.” On leash, Ace is easy to walk and enjoys getting out for daily exercise, though he wouldn’t mind a few extra opportunities to stretch his legs and strengthen his hind end. Ace gets along well with other dogs and has a friendly, easygoing personality with the people he meets. While his foster family hasn’t had the opportunity to see him around young children, he would likely do well with respectful kids ages 6 and up. Because he’s a larger dog who can be enthusiastic when seeing wildlife and critters on walks, a home without frail seniors or very small children would be the best fit. What Ace wants most is companionship. He forms strong bonds with his people and prefers not to spend long periods alone. He’ll thrive in a home where someone is home much of the time, works remotely, or enjoys bringing their dog along for daily activities. When left by himself, Ace can become anxious and vocal, so he’ll do best with adopters who understand his desire to stay close to his favorite humans. Ace also has a few medical needs that his future family should be aware of. He has mast cell tumors on his right shoulder and left wrist that are being managed under veterinary guidance. He takes daily medications and supplements to help keep him comfortable and feeling his best. His adoption will include 6 months of the medications and supplements. Despite these challenges, Ace approaches life with a happy spirit and a wagging tail. He’s settled nicely into foster care, loves being part of the household, and is ready to find a family that will appreciate the loyal, affectionate companion he is. If you’re looking for a devoted best friend who will happily accompany you on car rides, neighborhood walks, and quiet evenings at home, Ace may be the perfect match. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Ace’s been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Merlin. He’s a bold and big-hearted senior who’s ready to barrel into your life with all the enthusiasm of a dog half his age. Personality and Temperament: Merlin has presence. He’s not a wallflower—he’s a personality. Despite having zero formal training when he came into rescue, he picked up house routines quickly and figured out a tricky set of hardwood stairs entirely on his own. He’s smart, he’s social, and once he decides you’re his person, you’ll feel it. Daily Life & Good Stuff: Merlin is still very much an active dog. He tears around the yard on enthusiastic sniff patrol, loves a good car ride, and is always up for more adventure. He’s food-motivated and a quick study when it comes to new routines. Give him a yak chew and a yard to explore, and he is one happy dog. He sleeps and eats in his crate comfortably and has adapted well to home life. Other Dogs and Animals: Merlin has been a great housemate to his foster siblings and gets excited when it’s time to head outside together. He approaches other dogs calmly and has been easy to integrate into a multi-dog home. Training & Skills: Merlin came to rescue with no prior training and didn’t even know his name, but don’t let that discourage you because he learns fast. He does best with structure and supervision indoors to help with housetraining, and since he’s deaf, visual cues and a tap for attention are his love language. The Ideal Home for Merlin: Merlin would thrive with a somewhat active family who will laugh at his goofy personality, has a well-fenced yard, and can give him the companionship and movement he still very much craves. Older? Sure. Slowing down? Absolutely not. Merlin is a strong, goofy, loving dog who has so much left to give—he just needs the right family to give it to. If you’re looking for a dog with gusto, personality, and a heart as big as his enthusiasm for life, Merlin is your guy. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Merlin’s been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Hello friends, I'm Nova! I'm a 8-month-old, neutered male, German Shorthair Pointer/German Shepherd mix and I currently weigh 58 lbs. I am expected to grow to be about 75-90lbs when I'm an adult. I'm a sweet young fellow with a ton of energy who loves getting attention and affection when I'm not playing fetch with my favorite toys! Because I'm a working-type dog with a super amazing nose; I keep my nose to the ground, sniffing my next adventure. I would like to go home with a family who is experienced with my breed. I'd be perfect for a family with dog savvy kids 10+. If you have any resident dogs, I'd love to meet the whole family before I move in. I'm ready for lots of adventures, training, and most of all, love!
