Story
Meet Kai – Your Loyal, Smart, and Lovable Companion! Kai is an affectionate and intelligent pup who is eager to learn and bond with his person. In just a short time, he has formed a deep connection with his foster, proving he is ready to be someone’s devoted best friend. He picks up training cues quickly, knows “come,” “let’s go,” and “sit,” and is improving his leash manners. He’s also working on house-training and crate-training. Kai is an energetic dog who thrives on regular exercise and mental stimulation. He currently enjoys 2-3 walks a day but would love even more activity to help build his confidence and work off his puppy energy. His favorite pastime? Destroying any toy you give him (in the most entertaining way possible)! What Kai Needs in a Home: A committed adopter willing to continue his training and provide structure, patience, and love. A family who can help him build confidence, especially around new dogs and when left alone.‍&#226&#153&#130&#239&#184&#143 Plenty of exercise and enrichment to keep his mind and body active.&#226&#157&#163&#239&#184&#143 A person or family who will shower him with love while reinforcing boundaries to help him feel secure. Kai is a work in progress, and has so much potential! With love, routine, and reassurance, he will blossom into a fantastic companion. If you’re ready to give Kai the stability and care he deserves, he will reward you with endless loyalty and love. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Kai's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.March 26, 2025, 12:31 am

Story
Eli is a happy, affectionate, and energetic pup looking for his forever home! This handsome 50-pound boy is a fast learner who loves people and gets along well with small dogs. If you’re searching for a loyal companion who will keep you on your toes and fill your life with joy, Eli might be the perfect fit. What Makes Eli Special? Super Smart: Eli picks up new cues quickly and is currently learning sit, wait, down, and here. He’s even working on fun tricks like spin and pushups! Loves People: Eli is always excited to be around his humans and will eagerly greet you with a wagging tail and happy energy. Does Well with Small Dogs: Eli has done well with a small dog in his foster home. Energetic & Playful: Eli needs at least 30 minutes of full-speed running every day, so an active home with space to run or a commitment to regular exercise is a must! What to Know About Eli: Still Learning: Eli is working on his crate training, fine-tuning his house-training, and improving his leash manners. He walks well unless he gets excited – as his confidence grows, he sometimes forgets his manners. Car Rides: Eli is not a fan of car rides and will need continued patience and training in this area. Home Requirements: Eli would thrive in a home as a solo dog or with a mellow, non-pushy dog who can be a good influence on him. He needs a family who can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy. A home with a yard or access to open spaces for running would be ideal. A Few Fun Facts About Eli: His favorite toy? Balls – he loves chasing them! His favorite activity? Running freely in outdoor spaces! His biggest challenge? Confinement and car rides – working on both! If you’re looking for a sweet, active, and affectionate dog who will be your running partner and best friend, Eli is ready to meet you! He’s making great strides every day and just needs the right person to help him continue his journey. Could that be you? If you’d like to meet Eli and see if he’s the right fit for your home, reach out today! Story
Meet Maddie! She’s a sweet soul with a spunky spirit. Maddie is the perfect mix of laid-back and lively. She’s incredibly well-mannered, very quiet (rarely makes a peep), and is happiest when she’s snuggled up next to you getting all the pets and cuddles she can. Maddie’s a total lovebug who just wants to be near her people. Inside, she enjoys a mellow game of fetch (she prefers the cozy indoors for that!), but when she gets outside, she transforms into an explorer—curious and content to take in all the sights and smells around her. Maddie’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can spend her golden years being spoiled like she deserves. She’s low-maintenance, affectionate, and still has just the right amount of pep to make every day special. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a loyal companion, Maddie is waiting to meet you. She’ll be your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your best friend. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we primarily adopt within Northern California, and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Maddie's been up to, check out her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Viola – A Gentle Soul With a Goofy Streak Viola is a beautiful young GSP who is equal parts sweet, curious, and delightfully goofy. She’s been blossoming in her foster home, showing off her loving nature, gentle energy, and a growing eagerness to explore the world. Whether she’s watching birds from the window, “helping” in the garden, or trotting alongside you on a walk, Viola is happiest when she’s near her people and soaking up the sounds and scents around her. Viola enjoys twice-daily walks, prefers dirt paths to sidewalks, and is at her best when she has access to open spaces and plenty of nature. She’s learning cues like “sit,” “stay,” and “come,” and she’s starting to understand fun tricks like “boop” (a gentle nose tap to your hand!). She has a soft spot for Kongs, antlers, and stuffies, and loves relaxing near the window or checking in on the neighborhood birds. When she’s feeling extra playful, she enjoys romping with her foster dog sibling, Maverick. Viola’s Ideal Forever HomeViola would thrive in a calm, active home with plenty of companionship, routine, and opportunities for daily exercise. She’d love a person or family who enjoys outdoor adventures and can include her in their day-to-day life. Another friendly dog in the home would be a bonus! Her foster describes her as a “sweetheart with a gentle soul”—a dog who’s coming out of her shell more each day. She’s observant, thoughtful, and loves learning how to be part of a family. What Makes Viola Special Smart & Willing to Learn – Already picking up new training cues and enjoying confidence-building games Adventurer at Heart – Loves nature walks, dirt trails, and helping with outdoor tasks Loyal Companion – Builds deep bonds and is happiest near her people Toy Lover – Enjoys Kongs, antlers, and soft toys for chewing and comfort Dog-Friendly – Gets along with other pups and enjoys gentle playtime Calm Energy – A mellow house presence who loves to observe the world Why You’ll Love ViolaViola is a pup with so much heart. Every day she grows more confident, more affectionate, and more curious. She’s the kind of dog who will quietly watch over you from the next room, then surprise you with a burst of goofy joy when you least expect it. With patience and love, Viola will reward her forever family with trust, loyalty, and a lifetime of companionship. If you’re ready to welcome a thoughtful, sweet, and deeply loving GSP into your life, Viola is ready to meet you. Submit your adoption questionnaire today and give Viola the happy home she deserves! Story
Meet Tess – the big puppy! Tess is a St. Bernard mixed with a German St. Haired Pointer. At 8 months old, this girl is approaching full grown at 90lbs. She is a typical puppy for her age but in an extra large size. She has been in foster homes and demonstrated that she is house trained and has done well when left alone for brief periods in a room to herself. When Tess arrived at the Shelter, she had a fractured right rear leg. The fracture was stabilized with a splint and bandages for several weeks and she is now ready to continue her recovery without a splint in her new home. Her bone is still healing and her adopter will need to abide by a restricted activity plan until she is fully healed. Tess has lived with a dog savvy cat in a previous home as well as children and has done well. A dog friend in the home may be a fit but adopters will need to manage interactions to ensure that Tess continues to heal her fracture. Interested in bringing this big puppy home? Come meet Tess today! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
