Story
Murphy has such a unique appearance! With one blue/one brown eye, a shiny black coat with speckled chest and feet, and fold-over ears, he is stunningly attractive! Murphy was surrendered 1/6/26 as they could no longer care for him. Murphy weighs 58 pounds, neutered and is about 3 years old. He is listed as a Lab/Retriever but my Dog Scanner suggests German Short-haired Pointer/English Pointer in the breed mix. Owner reported that he is house trained, was an indoor dog, and lived with and was OK with other dogs. I found him to be a delightful and charming boy who deserves another chance at a forever home with someone who will stay committed to him. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going for walks. He knows the sit and paw commands. He will sit for treats and takes them politely. He is well mannered and gentle. He is an inquisitive fellow, checking out his surroundings with such intense interest. He is friendly and affectionate. We met a lady in the parking lot who got down on his level to pet him and he promptly gave her kisses. Can you please assist Murphy in having a very short and brief time at the shelter?

Story
Huck is very loving, active, goofy 6 year old GSP. He is house trained, crate trained, collar trained, has some hunting experience (not a ton), He is lover, A cuddler, loves attentions, loves to play, loves to roam. He doesn't run away. He is a great companion. He truly is a sweet and loving dog. He is very high energy, gets very excited to meet people and dogs. He listens very well but sometimes will bump into things or jump on things. In new environments he just needs a little time to learn. He really needs some land to roam on. At this time I can't provide that to him and want to explore if there are any options for him to have that somewhere else. I've always walked him multiple times a day and run with him a few times a week. But if he could live on land that might give him a little better life. This type of breed is very high maintenance and high energy. So need an owner who can't handle that. As someone who wants the best for this dog. Would need to evaluate options.

Story
Petey walked onto a property in the country one day and let everybody know that he was not just visiting, but really intended to stay. This would have been perfectly fine with the human residents, but they want Petey to have the best possible life and felt this high energy young man needed to have someone younger than they are. GSP's are wonderful dogs who are very lovable and loving and are very trainable. They do have a high energy level and usually a strong prey drive. Training is definitely a must. They will reward you with unconditional love and loyalty.

Story
His mom was a rescue that we took in, she was abandoned in Rockwall. My husband found her at work and tried to take her to a shelter but because we don’t live in the city proper they wouldn’t take her. He didn’t want to leave her so we took her home and turns out she was pregnant. She appears to be a mix of German shepherd and husky but she’s tiny, about 45lbs. Super smart, very sweet. We decided to keep her. She had 6 puppies and we found homes for all of them except this one. With the speckles he has I’d say maybe German shorthair pointer? No way of knowing for sure. He is a meatball of a puppy. Rambunctious and smart but very stubborn. He is pushy with kids. Not aggressive at all but too physical for my comfort to have around my kids. I think he would be great with some training but we cannot provide that right now.

Meet Kip – A Sweet, Snuggly Pup with a Big Heart (and a Brave Spirit!) Kip is as cute as they come and has the sweetest soul to match. This handsome young pup absolutely adores being around his people—cuddles, belly rubs, and quality time are high on his list of favorite things. He's also a big fan of snacks (who isn't?), which makes him extra motivated to learn and bond. Kip is 1.5 years old and weighs 86 pounds. He is potty-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. He'd love a home with another dog to keep him company, a yard to romp around in, and plenty of toys and chew bones to keep him happy. If you're ready to open your heart and home to a truly special pup, Kip will reward you with a lifetime of love, loyalty, and snuggles. Story
Meet Shelby, a German Shorthaired Pointer mix with a wonderful blend of playful energy and laid-back charm. She loves romping and wrestling with her dog friends, but she’s just as happy spending her downtime stretched out on the couch. Shelby is housetrained with a dog door, knows her basic commands, and has a goofy sense of humor that keeps everyone smiling. Shelby is friendly and happy to meet new people, and she enjoys being part of the action once she’s settled in. She thrives in a home with other dogs to play with and keep her company, and she’ll need a securely fenced yard with at least a 6’ fence so she can safely burn off energy and enjoy outdoor time. Shelby needs a home without cats, birds, or livestock, but she’d be a great match for a family with a playful older kid who enjoys an active, fun-loving dog. If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, loyal companion who loves dog friends, outdoor play, and cozy couch time, Shelby might be your perfect match.

Story
Meet Skippy – the Dog-Lover’s Dog If dogs could hand out friendship bracelets, Skippy would be covered in them. This boy lives for his four-legged friends! A true social butterfly, Skippy thrives in playgroups at OHAR and is happiest when he's surrounded by canine companions. Whether it’s a game of chase, a sniff session, or just lounging in the sun with a buddy, Skippy is all in.But when it comes to humans… Skippy’s heart is a little guarded. You see, Skippy has been let down more times than we can count. His journey began at the Mesquite Animal Shelter way back in 2017. OHAR stepped in to give him a chance, but his first foster placement wasn’t the right fit. Thankfully, an experienced foster took him in and gave him the time, structure, and love he needed to blossom into the amazing pup he truly is.He found what we hoped would be his forever home in 2020, but sadly, Skippy has found himself back with us—returned because his adopters couldn't provide the guidance he still needs. The one human who has ever made Skippy feel safe was his foster mama. She saw his heart, his potential, and never gave up on him.And we won’t either.Skippy deserves more than just another stop on his journey—he deserves his person. Someone patient, experienced, and kind. Someone who understands that trust is earned, not expected. Someone who will let Skippy shine in his own time.Could that someone be you?Let’s show Skippy that forever really does exist.Adoption Process: After your application is approved, a home visit is schedule. We will bring the pet to you and help with introductions to your current pet(s). You will then have a week with the pet to ensure they are the right fit for your home. At the end of the week, you finalize the adoption and the pet is officially part of your family! Learn more at ohar.org/adoptionprocess
