Story
Petunia, Golden Retriever/Poodle/Australian Cattle Dog/Kelpie. 1 1/2 yr. 42 lbs. Petunia spent the first 14 weeks in a wire kennel. Because she didn’t get out of the kennel for so long and did not have much exposure to the outside world, she will take time to work up confidence to experience new situations in a new home. Petunia is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. She’s somewhat bossy with other dogs so would probable do better as on only dog. She needs a home with someone home most of the time to give her the attention she has never had. Call Cindy 970-353-1385

Story
Hello, I'm Landon! I'm a calm and mellow guy with a kind and gentle soul who enjoys long walks and long naps. I can be a little skittish at first, but with some treats and patience, I warm up quickly and love making new friends. Whether you're watching TV or reading a book, I’m content just being by your side, soaking up the peaceful moments. I’m also playful and polite with other dogs. Actually, at the shelter, they call me a "Playgroup Rockstar.” I’m already learning new things quickly, and I’m ready for a future full of love and loyalty. If you're looking for an attentive and affectionate companion, I promise to be the best friend you’ve ever had. Also, I’m heartworm positive, but that just means I’m available for foster-to-adopt while Animal Friends Alliance provides my treatment. Don’t worry - heartworm isn’t contagious to dogs, cats, or people, and I’ve got a long, happy life ahead of me.

Story
With a heart as big as his boundless energy, he is a sweet and affectionate pup who’s always ready for love and adventure. His fur is the softest you’ll ever feel—like a cloud made for cuddling—and he absolutely adores being pet. Snuggles? Yes, please! Full of enthusiasm for life, he can get a little jumpy and mouthy when excitement takes over, so a home with kids over 7 would be the best fit. But don’t worry, his heart is pure gold, and with a little guidance, he's eager to be the best companion ever! He is housetrained and gets along well with other dog friends, making him the perfect addition to a loving, active home. If you're looking for a pup who will bring joy, warmth, and endless affection into your life, he is the one for you!

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.  Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Handsome Mufasa is looking for his big break - a family to love, and adventure awaits him! After a rough start in Texas, he can't wait for people that are invested in him in the long haul. Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.  Personality | Timid but sweet. Mufasa has been easy to handle and shows friendly behavior.Story | Mufasa was surrendered in Texas by his owner after escaping the house. It sounds like it was a scary experience for him, that led to a scary outcome at their local shelter. Mufasa was then picked up by MHLM, and will get to make his way to the good life in CO! Other Dogs | Mufasa is shy by socialable. He takes time to warm up! Cats | Mufasa has not been cat tested, so the rescue cannot speak to how he would do with kitties. Children | Mufasa is still decompressing, but based on foster reports, might do best in a home with older children (teens) or just adults. Training | In progress. Leash | Working on it! Mufasa is young and excited by friends, but walks well. Activity Level | Moderate.Health Notes | Thank you! | Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.March 23, 2025, 12:20 pm

Story
Hi, I'm Blaize! I'm a 6 year old Goldendoodle with a loving heart. I'm a shy guy and can take a little longer to warm up, but if you have any treats I promise it will speed up the process! I'm in search of a loving home where I can be a couch potato and play. I can be a little picky about other canine and feline friends so the shelter recoomends a slow and proper introduction to ensure a good fit for everyone.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2315749##

Story
Can't decide if you want a Boxer or a Golden Retriever? Well, look no more - we have solved your problem! We are Golden Boxers. Our momma was a Golden Retriever and our dad was a Boxer. We didn't get our momma's golden color (we are all black with some goldenish tints) but, no worries - we will still have friendly nature of the Golden and the goofiness of the Boxer. You can't go wrong with this mix. We are still pretty young, but we will be able to go to homes after Wednesday, February 19. We can be pre-adopted in the meantime, so hurry on to complete an adoption application so you won't miss our on me! We are also named for essential oils - that is because we have these great effects on the people around us: 1) boosting mood, 2) aiding weight loss (walk, anyone?), 3) boosting energy levels, 4) some even say we have anti-aging effects, and, of course 5) aphrodiasiac  . . . aren't you in love with me already? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment.
