Story
Meet Gretchen! Gretchen is a 4-year-old, 34-lb, mini goldendoodle. She is a special girl who is looking for a special family. Gretchen spent the first years of her life in an Amish puppy mill, used for breeding and denied the love and care every dog deserves.
Gretchen is a quiet, gentle soul who's still learning that the world—and the people in it—can be safe and kind. This sweet girl is about as low-maintenance as they come, and with time, patience, and love, she’s going to blossom into an incredible companion.
She absolutely adores other dogs and would thrive in a home with a canine buddy who can show her the ropes and help build her confidence. People, on the other hand, are still a big question mark for Gretchen—right now, as she doesn't trust them much.
Gretchen does wonderfully in a fenced-in yard, where she feels safe and shows no interest in escaping. A secure yard will be essential for her, as she's not been introduced to a leash. She's also not ready to go for walks—yet—but she’s content just being outdoors in a space where she can explore at her own pace.
Her crate is her sanctuary, and she finds deep comfort in it. So much so that she’d probably live there full-time if she had the choice! Once she’s outside, she uses the bathroom reliably. She appears to be puppy pad and outdoor potty trained—she just hasn’t learned how to go in and out on her own yet.
Gretchen is incredibly calm and quiet. She hasn't barked, hasn't seemed to mind loud noises like fireworks or lawnmowers, and shows no signs of aggression toward people, animals, or even when being handled.
She would do best in a patient, laid-back home (with a dog friend!) where she can go at her own pace. She’s not ready to be a lap dog today—but we truly believe she will be someday. And when that day comes, it will be one of those moments that makes all the waiting worth it.
Gretchen is currently being fostered in Cincinnati area and waiting for the right person or family to help her grow into the amazing dog we know she’s meant to be. Her adoption fee is $450.
To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt
All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
