Story
Braxton (aka Baxter) is the sweetest, most unbothered doodle dog you will ever meet! He is potty trained, crate trained, knows “sit”, “down”, and “wait”, loves to go for walks, and LOVES snacks! He is a food motivated dog and learns quickly as a result. He has the happiest personality and loves his people. Braxton is dog friendly, too! He hasn’t been directly tested with kiddos but we suspect he would do well with older children, especially if they play with him! He would love to have a fenced yard so he can explore and play freely! You may be wondering, why is he described as “unbothered”? Well, when Braxton first came to his foster family, he was in rough shape. He got a nosebleed on the second day and we learned from the vet that he had very low platelets. In fact, by the weekend they were zero. He was hospitalized for days at an ER and through it all he was an absolute champion! He was so happy to see his foster parents when they visited and loved playing in the snow despite being so sick–he is a trooper! We’re not 100% certain what caused his platelets drop, but the emergency vet thought it was likely idiopathic thrombocytopenia (IPT). We are hopeful that this was a one-off situation spurred by a combination of being neutered, receiving multiple vaccines, and being transported from Texas in a very short period of time. Since then, Braxton has been taking several medicines to get his platelets back up to normal, and he even saw an internal medicine vet specialist! At present he is only on one medication (mycophenylate), administered once in the morning and once at night, and the specialist advised that he will need to stay on it through August 9th — 6 months after he was hospitalized. In this time period, his adopter will need to take him for vet visits every 2-3 weeks to monitor his platelets, and they will need to refill his medication as it is tapered. Braxton is a very special, very sweet dog and would make a wonderful addition to any family! It is his foster family’s hope that he finds someone who has plenty of time to spend with him because he absolutely thrives with human attention! Please consider welcoming this adorable, goofy boy into your heart and home! Braxton is in foster in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/braxton You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
Lyla is a beautiful Mini Golden Doodle who came to us as an owner surrender when her previous family could not afford to treat her medical condition. When Lyla arrived she had nearly 3/4lb of bladder stones! We provided the medical care Lyla needed and she has done amazingly well. This girl has a new lease on life! Lyla is super curious and loves her toys and tennis balls. She’s excited to bring them to you to show you when you arrive home. She loves running in the yard and playing with the other dogs in her foster home. She trots around like a young dog most days. Her big personality has been beautiful to watch bloom. The ideal home for Lyla would include a securely fenced in yard and hopefully, at least one other dog for her to play with. It would be best if there is a family member that is home most of the time. She had anxiety from the transition out of a home she had lived in for 9 years to her foster home. However, her canine foster siblings and foster mom who works from home helped her significantly. She is housebroken and can be left alone in the home without a crate (she doesn’t like the crate). She will tell you when she needs to go outside. She prefers to sleep with her person - she actually sleeps at her foster mom’s feet every night. She also enjoys cuddling on the sofa. Being a Doodle, she should have her eyes cleaned daily, and due to the type of bladder stones Lyla had, she will need to remain on a special diet for the rest of her life. Lyla is currently in one of our Texas-based foster homes and we would love to find her a home in the DFW or surrounding area. This would make it easiest for her foster mom to help transition her to a new family. This special girl is a blonde beauty and we are praying there is an ideal forever family for her out there!

Story
Dilly is a sweet boy! He loves all people and dogs, and he loves sitting on laps! Dilly is about 15 lbs, and has a very gentle temperament. He loves lots of attention, and loves to play fetch. Dilly is a little nervous around vets and groomers, but will still go to greet them with his belly on the floor and tail wags. He is not at all aggressive, and has never snapped or bitten other dogs or people. Dilly recently lost a tooth unexpectedly, and the vet thinks that he most likely has periodontal disease. This does not impact his life if treated yearly with dental cleanings and management of his teeth, but my family is unable to commit to the initial cost of any current teeth extractions that may be needed during his cleaning. The vet estimated about $1,500 for the initial visit dental procedure, and then yearly cleanings afterward. We want to find Dilly a loving home who can afford to help him stay pain-free and comfortable.

Story
Meet Chamba! He's a 2-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog / Miniature Poodle mix whose family has gone through an unexpected change, and Chamba needs a new home. Chamba was born November 19, 2021 in Montrose, CO. His mom is a 120-lb. Bernese Mountain Dog and his Dad is a 12-lb. Poodle! Chamba ended up being 90 lbs. -- a nice midpoint between Mom and Dad. Chamba LOVES cold weather and snow and would be happiest in a place where it snows a lot of the year. He's not a fan of the sun and heat, and is always seeking shade. He goes for a walk every day and is a strong boy, so his people are looking for adopter(s) who can match his strength while Chamba is on leash. He knows how to ring a bell to let you know when he wants to go outside and come back in. The bells will be provided to his adopter(s) so they have the correct ring. He's been going to a wonderful trainer where he's been learning his doggie cues and doggie boundaries around the other dog and kitty in the household. Ideally, Chamba will need a calm household with a training structure. He'd love to have another big dog to play with but would also be happy on his own. A small dog, kitty or young child in the home wouldn't work for this big boy, so we're saying No Cats, Small Dogs or Kids in the House, please and thanks. (A teenager might be OK.) Chamba is neutered, housetrained, crate-trained (where he sleeps overnight and when his people aren't home), doesn't shed, and he's up to date on his doggie shots. If needed, Chamba's crate can accompany him when he goes to his new home. He's currently living with his people in Carbondale, CO, but can be transported to the Boulder area if needed. For more info and/or to apply to adopt Chamba, send us an email at summitdogrescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you shortly. Thanks.
