Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Barney ❤️ Barney may only be six months old, but he's already proven that he's one tough little survivor. Shortly after entering rescue, Barney was diagnosed with Parvo and spent three weeks in emergency veterinary carefighting for his life. Through it all, he never stopped wagging his tail or showing everyone just how determined he was to make it. Today, this handsome Great Dane/Terrier mix is healthy, happy, and finally ready to find the forever family he's worked so hard to meet. Barney is everything you'd hope for in a puppy. He's playful, affectionate, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. He absolutely loves other dogs, does wonderfully with cats, and adores children. Whether he's romping around the yard with canine friends or snuggling up after a busy day, Barney is happiest when he's surrounded by the people and animals he loves. Because Barney is a recent Parvo survivor, he is not yet vaccinated. His veterinarian has recommended waiting until the appropriate time so his vaccines will be fully effective. He is also not yet neutered, and his adopter will need to work with MMAR to complete his remaining veterinary care according to our adoption agreement. Barney has already overcome more in six months than many dogs experience in a lifetime. Now he's ready for the easy part: being someone's beloved best friend. If you're looking for a joyful, resilient puppy with a heart of gold and a lifetime of love to give, Barney is waiting to meet you. ❤️. If you are interested in a particular pet, we suggest you email: mmarpaws@gmail.com to see if that pet will be there.   Applications are approved on the basis of the best and most appropriate home for the animal, not on a first come, first served basis. On site adoption available to pre-approved applicants only.   Adoption fees go towards vaccines, heartworm prevention/testing, flea/tick prevention, spay/neuter and other medical problems that may arise.   MMAR is an all volunteer, foster based, 501 (c) 3, non profit organization. Without your donation, wonderful pets like these have to be passed by because we cannot afford their care.   If you would like to donate please send donation to: MMAR Box 180155 Utica, MI 48318   Donate online at https://www.sanilacscoopers.org/   Please email us at mmarpaws@gmail.com for additional information or to set up special appointments October 6, 2026, 8:57 am

Story
Penny is a very sweet girl. She is 11 months old born in November of last year. She really loves to be around people. I can no longer take care of her. I am 71 years old and she wants to play a lot and jump and it’s a little too much for me to handle. I hope she can go to a good home and have more playtime than she does with me.

Story
Chip is a sweet, handsome young Dane who is still figuring out this whole big, busy world, and he’s looking for someone patient enough to help him find his confidence along the way. He is super polite (even a little bashful) when meeting new people, and he needs some time to settle into a new home before his full personality comes shining through. As he gets more comfortable, Chip's goofy, playful nature is sure to win out over that initial shyness. This boy just LOVES other dogs and would really enjoy having a confident canine companion to help show him the ropes. He’s still learning appropriate doggy manners, though. Chip came into rescue before being neutered, and he's smitten with his Dane foster sister (think: professional-level “excuse me, are you available for a hump?” enthusiast), so he needs another dog who can appropriately set boundaries and humans who will help him learn when enough is enough. Chip would benefit from continued work on: 🐾 Leash manners - he’s a puller and isn't afraid to go full sploot if he feels it's necessary 🐾 Basic commands and obedience 🐾 Building confidence around new people, dogs, and places 🐾 Learning appropriate boundaries and how to respect another dog’s limits 🐾 Becoming more comfortable around men The good news? Chip is crate trained, rarely barks, and is calm and affectionate with his people. He enjoys cuddling, but as a young Dane with lots to do - he prefers his cuddle sessions in reasonable, carefully rationed doses. 😆 Best of all, Chip is all set for his neuter surgery in late October! He will be ready to meet his new family when he's all healed up in early November. Chip is also a fan of car rides with the windows down. Longer rides can make him a little anxious, but he’s happy with feeling the wind in his hair on shorter adventures. And fair warning: Chip is a wonderfully enthusiastic messy eater, so his future family may want to keep a mop nearby. Chip isn’t looking for someone expecting a perfectly polished Dane on day one. He needs someone willing to give him time, guidance, consistency, and a little patience while he learns that the world can be a pretty great place. With the right people (and preferably a well-mannered dog to help teach him the ropes), this sweet fella has so much potential to blossom. ❤️

Story
Vader is a seven-year-old gentleman with a calm spirit and movie-star good looks. He came into rescue after being surrendered when his previous owner was away from home too often to give him the time and care he deserved. Despite the changes in his life, Vader’s heart remains wide open. This soulful boy can’t wait to find his forever home. Vader is friendly, playful, and eager to meet new canine friends. He’s learned to respect limits set by his foster dog siblings and knows when enough play is enough. Like most Danes, Vader has no concept of his size. He embraces the world and meets new people with all the spatial awareness of a moose trying to sneak in to share your recliner. 😉 Vader is affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he’s with his people. He does experience some anxiety when left alone, which is understandable after spending long, lonely days waiting for his original family to return. This boy loves so completely that even short separations from his humans can be difficult. While he can be left to free roam while his humans are gone, Vader’s perfect life includes people that are home most of the time in an environment where he is free to be as near as his heart desires. If he can see or hear you, he wants nothing more than to be close enough to show you all the love in his heart, even if that means simply laying at (or even on!) your feet. Vader is a smart cookie - he knows how to open sliders and turn doorknobs to get them opened. He’s even accidentally locked a door or two trying to open it up. He rides beautifully in the car and knows his basic commands. He’s a strong boy that is still polishing up his leash manners. He has never been crated and isn’t particularly interested in starting now — he much prefers lounging near his humans. Vader is truly a gem — the perfect blend of maturity and lovable goofiness. He is ready to give his whole heart to a family who can give him the time, stability, and love he’s been waiting for.

Story
Gunther found his way back to our rescue through no fault of his own. His previous adopter made the difficult decision to retire and relocate, and felt that a young giant-breed dog was no longer the right fit for their new lifestyle. At just 2 years old, Gunther is a happy, joyful boy who is still learning about the world around him. He had limited exposure to everyday experiences such as walks, meeting other dogs, and routine veterinary visits, so many things are still new to him. Gunther is new to leash manners and will need the assistance of calm, patient humans to show him the way. He will also need the help of a professional trainer to work on issues of leash reactivity. Gunther is incredibly eager to please, smart, and highly food-motivated—the perfect combination for success. With patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, he is sure to blossom. Gunther is always happy and he loves being with his human and “helping” with daily chores like laundry and yard work. Because Gunther can be cautious in unfamiliar situations, slow introductions and gentle guidance are essential. Gunther also has a history of being intimidated around food by a small dog in his previous home, so he is looking for a home without small dogs where he can feel secure and confident. He is fully potty trained and loves being in his crate. If you’re willing to give this gentle giant the time and support he deserves, Gunther will reward you with loyalty, affection, and plenty of joyful moments.
