Meet Jane, a little Great Dane mix with a big heart and a delightfully petite package! Jane was the runt of her litter, and while her 45-pound sister is well on her way to living up to the Great Dane name, Jane is a petite 27 pounds. From the looks of things, she may never inherit the impressive Dane size, but she certainly seems to have inherited the breed’s wonderful qualities with her gentle, calm, easygoing disposition. Don’t let her calm nature fool you, though Jane has a playful side that shines brightly! She absolutely loves spending time with her canine friends and is a wonderful playmate. Her foster sister happens to be a Chihuahua/Miniature Pinscher mix with plenty of energy and a little bit of crazy in her, and Jane takes it all in stride. She happily joins the fun and has shown what a lovely, adaptable dog she can be. Jane enjoys all the good things in life: playing with toys, going for walks, romping with her dog friends, and, of course, settling in for a good cuddle. She has a sweet, affectionate nature and seems happiest when she can be near her people. She is also proving to be quite the little student! Jane is nailing her potty training and working hard on perfecting her kennel training. She is very treat-motivated, which has made learning new things a breeze. She has already picked up basic commands and seems genuinely proud of herself when she gets it right. Her eagerness to learn and please makes her a joy to work with. Introducing Jesse! Goofy Playful Affectionate Social Personality: Jesse is a young, playful Dane/mix with a big personality and an equally big heart! He is both playful and affectionate, and he absolutely loves spending time with his people. Jesse is still very much in his puppy phase, so he has plenty of energy and curiosity, but he is also already showing what a wonderful companion he can be. Socialness: Jesse is very social and loves people. He does not have experience with young children, so he should be supervised around younger kids due to his size and energy. He enjoys playing with other dogs and has a great time with Roo, who is another Upper Midwest Great Dane foster who is available for adoption! Jesse does not have experience with cats, so any introductions to cats would need to be slow and carefully managed. Likes: Playing with other dogs, especially Roo Spending time with his people Cuddling and affection Playing and being active Dislikes: Being asked to go into his crate when he would rather keep playing Training: Jesse is crate trained and housebroken. While he is quiet and non-destructive once he is in his crate, he doesn't always want to go in when it is time, so continued positive crate training will help him become more comfortable with the routine. He can be destructive if left loose while his family is away, so he should continue to be crated when he cannot be supervised. Like many young Danes, Jesse is still learning what is and isn't appropriate to chew. He does occasionally chew on things he shouldn't, but with consistent redirection, supervision, and appropriate chew toys, he should grow out of this puppy phase without issue. Health: He is in good health with no current concerns. Forever Home Wishlist: A home with a physical fence is preferred so Jesse can safely run and play freely. A family that can provide continued puppy training, especially with crate routines and appropriate chewing. Jesse can be left alone for up to approximately 6 hours during the day. He could do well in an apartment setting, although adopters should be aware that he can bark loudly at times. He is approximately 70 pounds at this time, but still has some growing to do. A family that is prepared to supervise Jesse around young children because of his size and energy. Another playful dog would be a great bonus, especially since Jesse loves canine companionship. Jesse can be adopted on his own, or a family looking to add two Danes can consider adopting him and Roo together! Introducing Copper! Affectionate Gentle Playful Initially Shy Personality: Copper is a sweet Dane who may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and silly nature begins to shine. He’s calm, kind, and loves being included in the daily routine. A creature of habit, he thrives in consistency and finds comfort in knowing what to expect. Socialness: Copper gets along well with everyone in his foster home. He’s submissive with other dogs and respectful of their space, often waiting for them to initiate interaction. He hasn’t been around cats, so slow and structured introductions will be needed. He responds well to slow, structured introductions with new people. Due to some resource guarding around toys (which his foster has diligently been working on), older children or those with experience around large dogs would be best. Likes & Dislikes: Loves zoomies and playing with other dogs Enjoys toys, snuggling, and car rides Dislikes raised voices and nail trims Training: Copper is crate trained, housebroken, and does not destroy bedding or toys. He can comfortably be left alone during a typical 8-hour workday. He knows the commands sit, come, down, shake, and leave it. He is leash trained, incredibly smart, eager to please, and responds very well to positive reinforcement. Health: Copper is in great health with no current concerns. He does seem to have a beef sensitivity, so he’s currently on chicken-based food and treats with success. He is approximately 100 pounds. Introducing Willow! Smart Playful Sensitive Energetic Personality: Willow has a love for routine. She learns quickly and will pick up on her family's routines in no time. She can be a little stubborn when she has her mind set on something, but underneath that independent streak is a fun-loving girl who wants to be part of the action. When she's happy and excited, Willow has a serious case of the zoomies, especially when her foster family comes home. She loves her toys and will bring them to her people when she's ready to play. Willow is an active girl who needs regular exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. She enjoys neighborhood walks, running through the sprinkler, playing with her toys, and even watching TV. She has strong opinions about some television characters, though. Apparently, the Minions are not on her list of favorites! Socialness: Willow loves her people and enjoys getting attention. She will often come over and nudge her humans when she's ready for some pets. She also has a particularly adorable way of showing affection by going between her people's legs. We call these her "leg hugs!" Willow is affectionate with people she trusts, but she needs slow, controlled introductions with new people. She can be reactive toward people at times, particularly when there is a barrier such as a fence or window. Once she feels safe and has had an opportunity to approach at her own pace, she can warm up nicely and enjoys receiving pets. Willow's foster family has noticed some barrier frustration. For example, she may bark at the neighbor through the fence, even though she has met the neighbor outside the fence and happily accepted pets from her. Now, Willow may bark until the neighbor comes over to say hello. She also barks out the window at people and dogs. Willow does not enjoy the company of other dogs and must be the only dog in her forever home. She can become reactive when she sees dogs, particularly if they are barking at her, and may bark and pull on the leash. There are some dogs she simply ignores, and her foster family has not yet identified a consistent pattern. Her adopter will need to be comfortable continuing her training and helping her learn to navigate these situations safely. Willow does not have experience living with children, but based on her personality and reactivity, she would not be a good fit for young children. Older, Dane-savvy teenagers may potentially be a better match. Willow has barked at the neighbor's cat and would do best in a home without cats due to some prey drive instincts. Likes: Giving “leg hugs" between her people's legs Playing with toys Running/zoomies Neighborhood walks Running through the sprinkler Watching TV—although she has strong opinions about some shows! Having a predictable routine Exploring counters and investigating garbage when given the opportunity Dislikes: Other dogs Cats Loud noises Being behind barriers when she can see people or dogs Drinking from a traditional dog dish - she prefers the faucet! Training: Willow is housebroken and is not crate trained. She has been trusted with free roam of the home and has done well when left alone for up to 6 hours. She knows sit, on your bed, shake, and is currently working on leave it. She is a smart girl who learns household routines quickly and will benefit from an adopter who enjoys continuing her training. When there are no distractions, Willow walks well on leash. However, seeing another dog can be a significant distraction and may result in barking and pulling. She will need an adopter who is willing to continue working with her on leash walking, dog reactivity, barking, and appropriate introductions to new people. Willow can also be a bit of a counter surfer and may investigate the garbage if given the opportunity, so good management and keeping tempting items out of reach will be important. Health: Willow came into rescue with allergies and a skin rash, but she has stabilized with her new allergy medication and is doing much better. Her adopter will need to continue her allergy medication and monitor her skin as part of her ongoing care. She is approximately 102 pounds. Forever Home Wishlist: A physical fenced yard is required A house rather than an apartment setting, as Willow can be a vocal girl A small-to-midsize yard is perfectly fine as long as she receives plenty of daily exercise and mental enrichment A family who is committed to continuing Willow's training A predictable routine.
