Story
Introducing Max! Playful Curious Shy Snuggly Hi, I’m Max! I’m a playful, curious, and sweet Great Dane who loves being part of the family. While I might be a little shy at first—especially around men with hats—once I feel comfortable, I’ll become your loyal and loving companion. My zoomies are pretty legendary, and I promise to fill your days with joy and laughter! I thrive on being included in everything my family does, whether it’s playtime, snuggles, or adventures. I’ve lived with children before and did great with them, though I’m not currently in a home with kids. I get along well with other dogs and tend to be submissive and curious around them. Cats? Well, I’ve been a little scared of them in the past, so I’d need careful introductions if my forever home has feline friends. What I Love: Playtime and running around (zoomies included!). Snuggling with my people—it’s the best! Car rides and exploring new places. Elk antlers and playing with balls. Being involved in all family activities. What I Dislike: Rushed introductions. I need a little time to feel comfortable, especially around men with hats. I’m housebroken and crate-trained. I have handled being crated for 8+ hours as needed while my foster family is at work. In my previous home, I did well with free roam too. I already know commands like sit, come, and down, and I’m working on learning shake. I’m also improving my leash manners and getting used to having my legs and paws touched. With positive reinforcement and some patience, I’ll continue to shine. I’m in great health with no concerns—ready to join my forever family! My Forever Home Wish List: Yard: A midsize to large yard where I can play and zoom around would be amazing. A physical fence isn’t required but would help keep me safe. Companionship: I’d love a home with another dog as a companion and playmate. Family: A family willing to continue my training and be patient during introductions would be the perfect fit. If you’re looking for a fun, loving, and adventurous addition to your family, I’m your guy. Let’s make some amazing memories together—I can’t wait to meet you! Max has a playful spirit and a knack for zoomies that will leave you laughing! When he's not running around, he loves to snuggle and soak up all the attention from his family. If you think Max will be a great addition to your family please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. Story
Introducing Millie! Affectionate Playful Energetic Initially Shy Hi, I’m Millie! I’m a sweet and energetic Great Dane who’s learning how wonderful the world can be. I’m playful, affectionate, and love to zoom around the yard, but I also really enjoy cuddling up near my people for comfort and reassurance. I can be a little skittish and anxious, especially in new situations, but once I feel safe, my loving personality really shines. I get along great with the big and small dogs in my foster home, and I’d love to have a doggie sibling in my forever family to play with and learn from. I haven’t met any cats yet, so slow introductions will be important. Because I have lots of energy and can be sensitive, I’d do best with kids over 10 or those experienced with large, active dogs. I really thrive when I’m close to my people and can get anxious if left alone for too long. Likes & Dislikes: Loves playing outside and going for walks Enjoys eating tasty food and being around her people Likes hanging out with other dogs Dislikes going to the vet or feeling trapped I’m crate trained and do best when I’m crated if I’m left home alone—I might get into trouble otherwise. I’m fully housebroken and doing better and better on a leash. I’m super food-motivated, so training is going well, and I love getting treats for learning something new! Like a lot of young dogs, I sometimes dig or chew things I shouldn’t if no one’s watching, but I’m eager to keep learning. I came into rescue underweight, but I’ve been gaining strength and doing great thanks to good care and plenty of love. I’m in good health overall, but I do need sedation for nail trims and vet visits due to my anxiety. Forever Home Wishlist: A physical fence is required to help keep her safe during outdoor play Any size yard is fine, as long as she gets her exercise A family that is home more often than not (gone for 6 hours or less) A patient home that understands and can work with anxiety Another dog in the home would be a big plus Not suitable for apartment living Children, if any, should be 10+ or experienced with large dogs Fun Fact: I may be a bit shy at first, but once I feel safe, I light up with joy. I’m learning to trust more every day—and with the right people, I’ll be your most loyal adventure buddy and  snuggle partner. If you think Millie will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Millie’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about her. 2. WAITLISTED - STILL ACCEPTING INTEREST  Introducing Archie! Playful Outgoing Affectionate Snuggly Personality: Archie is a lovable, playful, and outgoing Great Dane. He’s eager to please, learns gradually, and thrives once habits are in place. This sweet Velcro dog loves being close to his people and will often lean against them for comfort. He’s used to a variety of environments and has shown he can adapt easily. Socialness: Archie is great with adults and enjoys meeting new people. He’s been gentle and patient with children ages 6–15. He’s curious, calm, and sociable around other dogs, and has been non-reactive to cats and even ferrets. While he’s shown interest in cats, he keeps his distance and might play if he becomes familiar with them. Likes: Snuggling Following his people around Toys Walks Naps Dislikes: Loud noises Knocks at the door (he will bark once) Being left alone Training: Archie knows the commands “stay” and “come” and is working on “sit.” He can be mildly destructive if left alone too long without enrichment and has some minor leash pulling and chewing tendencies. He is crate-trained and does best when crated if left home alone. Archie is housebroken but may have anxiety-related accidents if left uncrated for long periods (2+ hours). Health: Archie is in overall good health. His vet noted a very mild heart murmur on his left side, which should be monitored, but no treatment is needed at this time. Forever Home Wishlist: A physical fence is recommended but not required Archie would do well in an apartment A family that is gone no more than 8 hours a day An adopter willing to continue his basic training and provide enrichment A home where he can be crated when left alone Fun Fact: Archie is often described as “the perfect dog.” He’s incredibly sweet, well-mannered, and not overly loud or whiny. He’s a Velcro Dane at heart but respects your space if you need it! If you think Archie will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. Story
Introducing Patch! Happy  Active  Social  Affectionate Personality: Patch is a playful and joyful Great Dane whose antics light up every room he enters. Despite his deafness and partial blindness, he exudes happiness and energy that are truly contagious. Submissive yet full of life, Patch thrives on companionship and play. Socialness: Patch loves the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with one or two canine companions to share in his playful escapades. His interactions with cats are unknown, so slow and structured introductions would be necessary. While Patch enjoys being around people of all ages, a home without young children is ideal due to his size and exuberance. Likes: Playing with his canine friends. Snuggling with his family. Playing outside and enjoying the fresh air. Ice cream treats (his favorite indulgence!). Hogging the bed or couch for his naps. Dislikes: Being left alone for extended periods. Training: Patch is housebroken and crate-trained. He does well with hand signals and touch for communication of commands. He has been trusted with free roam for short periods of time while his foster family is away but may get a bit rambunctious if left for longer periods of time while having free roam. He does do well being crated during a standard workday. Health: Patch is on a generic form of Prozac to help manage his anxiety. He also has "happy tail," a result of his wagging enthusiasm, which occasionally causes minor injuries. Otherwise, Patch is in good health and ready to share his love and joy with his forever family. Forever Home Requirements: A physical fence of at least 6 feet is required to ensure his safety due to his deafness and partial blindness. He would love a mid-size to large yard to play in. A home with one or two playful and gentle canine companions is ideal. No young children; older children or adults are best suited to match his size and energy. Fun Fact: Patch’s tail wags with so much enthusiasm that it sometimes causes his "happy tail" to break open—a testament to just how thrilled he is to be around his loved ones! His vibrant personality shines through his expressive eyes, inviting you to embark on a journey of love and companionship. Patch is eager to become your loyal friend. If you are the friend Patch is waiting for, please contact us by following one of the steps below. 1. Introducing Luna! Sweetheart Adaptable Courageous Affectionate  Luna is one half of an extraordinary pair of Great Danes who embody courage, kindness, and boundless love. Luna and her brother, Ares, are ready to embark on a new chapter of their lives with you. This lovely lady is a stunning, white Great Dane who exhibits grace and charm that's simply unmatched. Her world is painted in shades of love and determination due to overcoming vision impairments with remarkable finesse due to her hearing and smelling She has proven that strength lies not in what we see, but in the unwavering spirit within. With every step, she demonstrates her determination to explore life to the fullest. Her bond with her brother is something truly special. They continue to find support from each other as they navigate their world safely. Their connection is a testament to the power of love and companionship, and they must be adopted together to ensure that they continue to thrive. They both love to be around their people and soak up the attention. While they aren't that into playing with toys, they do love going for walks and car rides! These two gentle giants can be the perfect addition to your family and can do well in a household with cats and older children. Due to their special needs, a home where they will be the only dogs is necessary. Both dogs are housebroken, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. Their foster family has also noted they do well during car rides. A physical fence and minimal steps are required due to them having difficulty with hearing and vision. Neither dog has any medical/health concerns, but Ares occasionally requires an ointment for his eye. Are you ready to open your heart and home to this remarkable pair of siblings? If so, please reach out to us by one of the following steps. 1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Ares & Luna’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about them. 2.
