Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.I am sure you have never seen a prettier girl than me! Hi! I am June! I have a very sweet, sensitive and gentle personality. I was raised with tiny humans, but not other dogs - so I am not a huge fan. However, with a trainer and some discipline, I might be able to work around that. Honestly, I would prefer to be the only dog. I do not mind cats, though!  I am a very sensitive girl, as in, I throw what my foster mom calls 'baby fits.' She also says I'm slightly dramatic when it comes to wanting attention. I do love to be a couch potato with my human. I do not require a fenced in yard if you are able to take me out to potty on a leash. I do not prefer to be outside for a long time - I would just as soon stay in bed with you all day long! I'm a lazy Dane!  My perfect home would be someone who can handle my size. I do not always know that I am a 102 pound great Dane mix. While I am not crazy in the house, I can jump sometimes when new people come if I get excited. I am very gentle with kids, I would prefer no other dogs, and cats would be just fine.  I am spayed, even though it was a treacherous experience for me - I do NOT like to wear a cone, but having my foster Mom dress me in a surgical suit was not my favorite option either. You would have thought she cut my toe off the way I screamed when she tried to put my head through the surgical suit hole. I do not like to be fussed with, it takes too much of my energy. Just love me, pet me, tell me I am beautiful and give me treats! I am up to date on vaccines and microchipped.  If you are interested in me, please apply at www.castawaycritters.org.Kennel License # 04736Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 2:38 pm

Story
Current Location: Hughesville, MD Meet Black Beauty Black Beauty is a two year old, 95 pound all black Great Dane with a heart that is somehow even bigger than his already magnificent frame. He is loving, goofy, playful, and genuinely joyful in a way that makes everyone around him smile. He is the kind of dog who will make you laugh with his silly antics one moment and melt you completely with his gentle affection the next. He is, in every sense of the name, a beautiful boy. He came into this world with a lot of love to give and he gives it freely and generously to the people he trusts. He is calm, sleeps well in his crate, and knows sit, stay, come, shake, and crate cues. He is adventurous and active, loves long walks and play sessions, and thrives with plenty of exercise and enrichment to keep that big body and bright mind engaged. Black Beauty also carries some fears with him, and those fears sometimes show up as reactivity, particularly around other dogs and in tense or loud situations. Raised voices can unsettle him and he can become defensive when he feels overwhelmed or threatened. This is not who Black Beauty is at his core. It is simply a part of his story that the right person will understand and work through with him. He has already shown tremendous capacity for growth and with calm, consistent, positive support his confidence continues to build and his bright playful spirit shines more every day. He is not the right fit for a home with other pets or young children. He needs a calm and structured environment, an active and patient adopter with experience handling large dogs, and someone who has the time and heart to build his trust slowly and deliberately. In return Black Beauty will give that person something extraordinary. The devoted, goofy, deeply loving companionship that only a dog who has learned to truly trust can give. He needs a fenced yard, a calm household, and a person who sees not just where he is today but where he is going. Because Black Beauty is going somewhere wonderful. He just needs the right person to make the journey with him.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Dolly has large Great Dane genes grafted onto a somewhat smaller body. Not that anyone would ever call her small, but you would say she's a manageable size, which is perfect. If you love the Dane look, but aren't sure you could handle a full size model, we have Dolly waiting for you. She is currently only 60 lbs., but that is a bit deceiving, as she is very underweight. We would like to see at least 15 lbs. more on her ribs and we are working on it. She is now getting top quality groceries, something she has never had before. Still a young dog, at only about 2 years old, she is in the process of learning about how to deal with the world around her and she is learning fast. Her foster has some comments to help you understand this 'dog-in-progress. 'She’s nervous around new people and things. She does warm up after a bit. Her initial reaction to people that she doesn’t know is to low growl. She is trying to tell everyone to give her a moment to process the new information. I don’t recommend a house with cats or small animals. She’ tries to chase down all the birds,  and squirrels when we’re outside. I’m fairly confident her life prior to rescue wasn’t a good one. It's heartbreaking seeing a good dog trying to cope with a world she was never shown. UPDATE:I have had her for a month now, and she is learning! I took her to the vet today, and while she was nervous, she did not growl. So there has been improvement on that aspect. She wasn’t super outgoing and wanting everyone’s attention, so definitely stand by the slower to warm up to strangers. I highly suspect she’s been abused. She is highly intelligent and learns new things really fast.  She really has the potential to be an excellent dog, and wants to be loved and please her person. MORE UPDATE: Since being here at my house over a month now I have some new insights into her. She is not dog friendly with all dogs.  She's OK with my male dog, but not so happy with my female.  I've been working on getting her to ignore people on walks and she's doing better. She doesn't like it if strangers get to close when we are out.  In the yard. she's definitely going to need at least a 6 foot fence to keep her safely secured.  I will say, she is house trained and does let you know when she needs to go out. She also does very well in her kennel. She is very smart, and can learn things pretty quickly. She has all her shots and is ready and waiting for the person or family who like bigger dogs, but aren't ready for an actual Goliath. Dolly is a good girl! She is hoping you will want to help her be a good dog and come for her soon.   If you are interested in Dolly, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 26, 2025, 11:42 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Walter! Walter is a young Great Dane mix pup with legendary ears — we’re pretty sure he can pick up satellite signals with those things. He’s still growing into them (and into himself), so yes… he’s going to be a big boy. Big body, even bigger heart. Walter is the total package: &#226&#156&#168 Dog friendly &#226&#156&#168 Cat friendly &#226&#156&#168 Kid approved (he LOVES them) He’s a toy enthusiast who’s perfectly happy entertaining himself, but when the toys are done, he’s all about his people. Walter’s signature move? The lean. If you’re petting him, expect a full-body Great Dane lean that says, “Yes, this is my human now.” This smart cookie already knows basic commands, is housetrained, and is working on polishing up his leash manners. He hasn’t been crated, hasn’t been destructive, and clearly understands that good boys don’t chew the furniture. Walter is up to date on vaccines and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. He’s being lovingly fostered near Dornsife, PA, and is ready to bring laughter, love, and a whole lot of ear flapping into his forever home. If you’ve been looking for a gentle giant in the making with a goofy side and a heart of gold — Walter is your guy.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ Click here for the ADOPTION APPLICATION if you are interested in adopting this pet.
