Story
Alek’s personality shines through his expressive ears— they move together and individually as an adorable perky pair! He gets along well with his foster families cats. He would like to be friends with the cats—if they would just let him.  Alek has a genetic condition that is causing him to go blind slowly called progressive, retinal, atrophy or PRA. His vision is currently estimated to be around 20% of normal.   When he was first brought into his foster home, he learned the layout quickly!  He walks well on the leash and isn’t easily startled with passing cars.  Alek can see a cat walking within 6 feet, but can sometimes stumble over his foster brother’s feet that may be sticking out! He can sprint up and down the stairs and do zoomies in the backyard. He leads the way on walks and wants to greet everyone he sees! His sight disability really isn’t that impairing to him!  Alec is a young dog and he deserves to have a happy long life in a loving home. He enjoys all the same things that other greyhounds love, including soft beds, long naps zoomies in the backyard and walks. Alek will need a canine companion in his new home. Story
I may be a senior pup, but I like to think of myself as senior in high school, so handsome and young-looking! I’m also just learning how to be a dog! Toys and bones have become some of my favorite things along with lots of love. I really enjoy walks and my foster mom says I’m great on a leash if you don’t mind me exploring both sides of the sidewalk. Since I came to KC REGAP in January, I’ve learned that most humans are actually really nice and now I love to meet new people; I get so excited! I’m not sure about other dogs along the sidewalk, and I definitely don’t do well with small dogs or cats. In the backyard, you won’t find me doing zoomies yet; I haven’t quite figured that out. However, I have discovered my voice and love to let you hear it when I get excited or am ready to play! I’m super gentle with treats!  I am learning the rules of the house and have done okay with my foster sister, but my mom says I would really do well as an only dog!  My ideal household would be one with older human siblings (teenage+) or adults. I still get startled and will let you know if I don’t like something, but my foster mom says I’ve made huge improvements since I came to KC REGAP. Patience is key with me as I’m still adjusting my personal space; but I will lean in real hard (almost knocking you over) as I show you affection! Story
Sweet Kimmee   This beautiful small/medium girl is very affectionate and loves being with her humans. When she’s feeling especially snuggly, Kimmee will even climb onto her humans’ laps!  While very loving, Kimmee is confident enough to spend periods of time on her own.  Kimmee enjoys meeting new people and greets nearly everyone with a waggy tail and an up-turned, happy face.   Kimmee gets along very well with the resident greyhound in her foster home. On walks, she’s happy to meet other walking dogs but largely ignores fenced dogs, even when they bark. Kimmee has shown a passing interest in squirrels, but doesn’t give chase. She is considered to be cat safe and in fact may fear them. When Kimmee meets children on her walks (in the age range of 7-10 years) she is curious, but calm.   Kimmee is an active pup. Two or three times a day she gets a case of the zoomies and races around her yard at lightening speed. Inside the house, she sometimes does this on a small scale, twirling in tight circles like a blender with fur. Sometimes Kimmee goes on “search and destroy” missions, in which every inanimate object is a potential target. Books, cell phones, and shoes beware!  Kimmee also enjoys moderately paced walks and is getting really good on a leash. Periods of calm and quiet are part of Kimmee’s days. She is a good napper during the day and sleeps through the night.   Kimmee is smart and likes to learn new things. She mastered carpeted stairs in no time. She knows that “potty” is outside. She is making progress toward learning basic commands, such as down and sit, and she is beginning to understand that countertops are off limits. More and more frequently she comes when called by her name. The biggest challenge for Kimmee is learning not to chew on inappropriate objects. (She can almost literally grab the rug out from under you!) Fortunately, Kimmee responds well to both treats and praise in the training process.   Pictures don’t adequately capture Kimmee’s physical beauty. She has big brown eyes seemingly enhanced with eyeliner. Her peaches and cream fur is sleek, soft and shiny. She is so striking that passersby stop to comment and ask about her breed and characteristics. In response to the compliments she just wags and makes her happy face. She’s a confident dog, but not a diva!   Kimmee would likely live happily as an only dog if she’s in a home where her humans are usually around. She would also do well with good-natured canine companion. She is an extrovert and enjoys being with others, both human and canine.   If you’re looking for an affectionate, active, smart, confident, and beautiful dog, perhaps Kimmee is the one for you.
