Story
Meet Leo! 🐾 Leo is a 4-year-old, 17-pound Havanese/shih Tzu mix (our best guess) who is an all-around good boy. He may take a quick minute to warm up and learn to trust, but once he feels safe, his sweet personality shines through. ❤️ Leo absolutely loves other dogs and is wonderful with people. He’s learning the ropes in his foster home—doing his business outside, discovering toys, and learning that he is finally safe and loved. 🥰 This sweet little guy is making great progress and is looking for a patient family who will give him the time and reassurance he needs to blossom. Leo has so much love to give and is going to make someone a very special companion! 🐶❤️

Story
Meet Oreo! 🖤🤍 At around 8 years old and 25 Lbs, Oreo is proof that it’s never too late for a fresh start. This sweet, perfectly mannered boy is currently being treated for a skin infection that was allowed to go untreated for far too long by his previous owners. The good news? He’s healing beautifully, and as he feels better each day, his wonderful personality is shining through. Oreo loves his people, enjoys the company of other dogs, walks beautifully on a leash, and is perfectly housebroken. He’s the kind of easygoing companion who would fit right into almost any person or family’s life. Oreo also has dry eye, which is easily managed with daily eye medication. He takes his drops without any fuss, and this simple routine will need to continue for the rest of his life. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who asks for little but gives so much in return, Oreo may be the perfect match.

Story
My husband and I adopted Pretzel when he was a puppy, and I was still living in my parents' house. When they moved, we moved to an apartment building 5 years ago, but unfortunately, Pretzel hasn't been able to adapt to the change. The move was meant to be temporary, but that seems impossible now. At this point, I need to accept that this isn't a fit for him, and we can't afford him or training anymore. He's not living the life I planned for him, and I need to face reality. I don't want to rob him of a yard and a big home anymore. I love him like a son, but I'm not the right match for him at this point in our lives. It sucks to look at him and feel like I've failed him. Please, if you can, adopt him and give him a big yard for him to run around in so he can be happy.

Story
Welcome Annabelle to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 20-pound sweet Dachshund/Havanese is our best guess. She has a curly coat and curly hair on her tail. She is about 5 months old. She is very sweet. She was found on the streets. She doesn’t jump up, is good with other dogs, good in a kennel, very non reactive around lots of dogs and a busy shelter. She is a very mellow and lower energy dog. She is what we call “perfect” temperament in Rescue. Since she is relatively quiet, she would be fine in a condo, apartment or shared wall situation. She is sturdy and would make a great walking companion. She won’t need lots of walks or exercise to be happy. She is getting spayed soon and is topping up and getting her vaccinations. She could go to a moderately to lower active family. She would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. She is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Online applications at www.ccpalrescue.org See her cute video

Story
Name: Hezly Nickname: Hezzo. Hesleyan University. Hezzo Bezzo. Leelee. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 3 year Weight: 11.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Hezly and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Slow-mow in public, medium-high at home. Confidence level: Low in public, high in his home. Hezly is very unsure about the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. His fear does not result in any aggression, but he will pancake, make himself small, and/or freeze. What we love most: His innocent nature and his little attempts to try and be brave. His bunny hops. How he melts into you when you pick him up. How incredibly sweet he is. What he loves most: Chewing. Bones. Hopping and running through the yard. Food. Playing with his foster (dog) brothers. Sleeping in bed with foster family. What he doesn’t love: Coming inside when it’s a nice day outside! What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be confident in the outside world. Working on: Confidence. Independence/being alone – He absolutely wants to be right with his people when they are home and has a hard time (barking and crying) when they leave. His foster family is working with him on this, but he will do best with a family who is not consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 8 years and up please! He has not shown any aggression to people, but fast-moving, loud kiddos will make him very nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Suni, and another male small dog and is very playful. He will often bark initially at a new dog, and he does need to chew his bones and toys separately from other dogs. Cats: Should be fine! He went nose-to-nose with a neighbor senior cat and had no reaction. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not house-trained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and he does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Hezly is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.
