Name: Hezly Nickname: Hezzo. Hesleyan University. Hezzo Bezzo. Leelee. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 2 year Weight: 8.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Hezly and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Slow-mow in public, medium-high at home. Confidence level: Low in public, high in his home. Hezly is very unsure about the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. His fear does not result in any aggression, but he will pancake, make himself small, and/or freeze. What we love most: His innocent nature and his little attempts to try and be brave. His bunny hops. How he melts into you when you pick him up. How incredibly sweet he is. What he loves most: Chewing. Bones. Hopping and running through the yard. Food. Playing with his foster (dog) brothers. Sleeping in bed with foster family. What he doesn’t love: Coming inside when it’s a nice day outside! What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be confident in the outside world. Working on: Confidence. Independence/being alone – He absolutely wants to be right with his people when they are home and has a hard time (barking and crying) when they leave. His foster family is working with him on this, but he will do best with a family who is not consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 8 years and up please! He has not shown any aggression to people, but fast-moving, loud kiddos will make him very nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Suni, and another male small dog and is very playful. He will often bark initially at a new dog, and he does need to chew his bones and toys separately from other dogs. Cats: Should be fine! He went nose-to-nose with a neighbor senior cat and had no reaction. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not house-trained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and he does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Hezly is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.

Name: Suni Nicknames: Sooner. Grandpa. Slowpoke. Suni cum laude. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 2 year Weight: 11.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Suni and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Medium-high. Confidence level: Medium. He is very confident in his foster home, but has moments of uncertainty in the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. He is overall more confident than his foster brother, Hezly, but still has moments of timidness. What we love most: His gentle soul. How curious he is. His “don’t you stop petting me” pawing at you (which, we suppose, could be annoying to people who aren’t as obsessed with their dogs as we are…). When he rolls over and somersaults up against you. When you go to put on his harness and he stands up to help you. The noises he makes when he plays with other dogs. His Einstein-esque wispy eyebrows (yes they’ve been trimmed!) What he loves most: Playing with his foster brothers. Being right on top of foster mom. Chewing bones. Snooping around. What he doesn’t love: The car – he’s gotten car sick a few times. What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be even more confident in the outside world. Working on: Independence/being alone – he absolutely wants to be right with his people when they're home and has a hard time (barking) when they leave. His foster mom is working with him on this, but will he do best with a family who isn't consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 5+ please. He has not shown any aggression to people (and was drawn to the kiddo he did meet!) but very young chaotic, loud kiddos can make him nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Hezly and another small male dog and has proven to be very playful. He will often bark initially at new dogs, but warms up quickly. Cats: Should be fine! His approach to life is generally slow and gentle. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not housetrained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Story
Hello humans, I’m Daisy! I’m a 5-year-old Havanese with 16 pounds of soft fluff just waiting to finally bloom in the right home. I was stuck in a puppy mill, but I was finally willingly surrendered and now I’m safe and ready for a fresh start. I’m a real sweetheart with a gentle, sensitive heart, and I’m hoping for someone who will help me grow from a shy little bud into the happy, confident Daisy I’m meant to be. I need a home without young children because I’m a bit timid right now. Once I feel safe, my sweet side really starts to shine. I get along well with other dogs, and having a kind canine friend around would be fine by me! I’m the soft, steady companion who blooms for the people she trusts. I deserve a home where my past is behind me and my future is full of kindness, patience, and cozy spots to nap. If you’re looking for a loving little soul to spoil and show the good life to, I’d be honored to be that gal. Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://www.anewchancear.org/adopt/our-adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://www.anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://www.anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
Hi, I’m Zaza! I’m a 6–7-year-old Havanese weighing in at 16 pounds of sweetness and spunk. I was finally surrendered from a puppy mill where I didn’t get the care or love I needed, but I’ve been learning what a good life can feel like in my foster home. I might not look like a full Havanese right now—some of my hair is still growing back from the neglect—but my coat is making a comeback, and so is my sparkle. At first, I can be a little shy around new people or dogs, but once I feel safe, my silly side comes out! I love zooming around the yard, chasing toys, and curling up in my big, fluffy bed like a little queen. I’ve made a ton of progress building confidence, and every day I surprise my foster family with my playful energy and goofy personality. I do well with other dogs once I get to know them, and I’ve even gained courage from my foster sibling. I would be happiest in a forever home with a furry sibling to keep me company. I’m looking for a home where I can feel safe, loved and surrounded by other dogs who can help me feel even more at ease. If you have a soft spot for sweet, gentle pups who just need a little time to blossom, I just might be the perfect match for you. Story
Say hello to Ellio, the pup who will truly elevate your spirits! With a heart as big as his bouncy energy, this charming boy is always ready to put a smile on your face. Elliot is the perfect bundle of joy for any family. Let him light up your life with his playful antics and sweet nature! Elliot is a handsome white and black Havanese Poodle crossbreed. He is your typical happy and bouncy puppy at the age of 6 months old. He is currently about 18 pounds, and is considered a small breed, he may grow some more but is estimated that he will be anywhere under 25 pounds at full growth. He does have somewhat of a rough coat, which is to be expected with a breed like him. He is great with other dogs, making him an excellent companion for households with canine siblings. Elliot is also good with children, and his size is perfect for households with small children. In his short time on Earth, he has yet to have proper introductions with cats so we do not know his temperament will be like with a feline companion. He is still considered a baby, being under a year old so he is still working on his house training, crate training, and leash training skills. Once again, with the right family, and since he is still so young, he should adapt in no time. Since he is considered a small dog, a large fenced-in yard is not necessary as he would be happy and adjust to just about any household, but he is looking for a family committed to pampering him as his coat needs frequent maintenance. When you meet him, you will quickly see his gentle nature and playful spirit in action. Come meet sweet Elliot today. He is such a sweet dog who will instantly melt your heart. We cannot think of anyone who would pass up the chance to meet this handsome boy.* Please keep in mind when considering adoption, dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust significantly better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Elliot is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.December 7, 2025, 6:07 am

Story
Mya was rescued off a dog meat truck In Beijing China. She is a super sweet and friendly girl. She is a 2 year old Havanese schnauzer who weighs 14 lbs. Mya is a super sweet and happy girl who gains comfort and confidence from being around other dogs. Her ideal home would be with another friendly dog! We require adopters to have a safe and secure backyard - not electric or Fido fences as they are not as safe at containing dogs or keeping other animals or people out. For these reasons we do not adopt to homes with electric or Fido fencing. The adoption fee is $650, which includes age appropriate vaccines, microchip, monthly flea, tick and heart worm preventatives at time of adoption and age appropriate spay/neuter.
