Story
Name: Hezly Nickname: Hezzo. Hesleyan University. Hezzo Bezzo. Leelee. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 3 year Weight: 11.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Hezly and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Slow-mow in public, medium-high at home. Confidence level: Low in public, high in his home. Hezly is very unsure about the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. His fear does not result in any aggression, but he will pancake, make himself small, and/or freeze. What we love most: His innocent nature and his little attempts to try and be brave. His bunny hops. How he melts into you when you pick him up. How incredibly sweet he is. What he loves most: Chewing. Bones. Hopping and running through the yard. Food. Playing with his foster (dog) brothers. Sleeping in bed with foster family. What he doesn’t love: Coming inside when it’s a nice day outside! What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be confident in the outside world. Working on: Confidence. Independence/being alone – He absolutely wants to be right with his people when they are home and has a hard time (barking and crying) when they leave. His foster family is working with him on this, but he will do best with a family who is not consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 8 years and up please! He has not shown any aggression to people, but fast-moving, loud kiddos will make him very nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Suni, and another male small dog and is very playful. He will often bark initially at a new dog, and he does need to chew his bones and toys separately from other dogs. Cats: Should be fine! He went nose-to-nose with a neighbor senior cat and had no reaction. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not house-trained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and he does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Hezly is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.

Energy level: Medium-high. Confidence level: Medium. He is very confident in his foster home, but has moments of uncertainty in the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. He is overall more confident than his foster brother, Hezly, but still has moments of timidness. What we love most: His gentle soul. How curious he is. His “don’t you stop petting me” pawing at you (which, we suppose, could be annoying to people who aren’t as obsessed with their dogs as we are…). When he rolls over and somersaults up against you. When you go to put on his harness and he stands up to help you. The noises he makes when he plays with other dogs. His Einstein-esque wispy eyebrows (yes they’ve been trimmed!) What he loves most: Playing with his foster brothers. Being right on top of foster mom. Chewing bones. Snooping around. What he doesn’t love: The car – he’s gotten car sick a few times. What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be even more confident in the outside world. Working on: Independence/being alone – he absolutely wants to be right with his people when they're home and has a hard time (barking) when they leave. His foster mom is working with him on this, but will he do best with a family who isn't consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 5+ please. He has not shown any aggression to people (and was drawn to the kiddo he did meet!) but very young chaotic, loud kiddos can make him nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Hezly and another small male dog and has proven to be very playful. He will often bark initially at new dogs, but warms up quickly. Cats: Should be fine! His approach to life is generally slow and gentle. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not housetrained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hey, I’m Danielle! I’m a Havanese/Poodle mix born around 3/6/2026, and I’m officially looking for my own people. A nice couple found me and my little family near a busy highway after we’d clearly been struggling for a while. We were covered in fleas and ticks, skinny, hungry, and sadly one of my siblings didn’t make it. Luckily, rescue stepped in and now things are looking a whole lot better for me. These days I’m doing what puppies do best — playing with toys, zooming around, and acting like everything is exciting because honestly… it is. I’ll need basic puppy training and regular grooming to keep my fluffy coat looking good, but I promise I’m worth it. I’m fixed, microchipped, current on vaccines, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $500. To apply, visit www.adoggie4you.org I'm in Texas but can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington, KY, and locations along the East Coast. If transport is needed, an additional fee of $225 will apply. Please note that we are unable to transport to Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to state regulations.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 3, 2026, 4:35 pm

Story
Bruno’s Shelterluv Bio Bruno is an approximately 3-year-old velcro dog who believes personal space is completely overrated. His favorite place in the world is right in your lap… yes, even if he technically does not fit. If you have ever wanted to know what it feels like to be lovingly owned by a dog, Bruno is ready for the job. We believe Bruno may be a Havanese mix based on his appearance and personality, though this is just our best guess as we do not know who his parents are. What we do know is that Bruno is incredibly affectionate and happiest when he is close to his people. He would thrive in a home where he can spend lots of time with his family and be included in daily life. Bruno is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and current on preventions. He is ready to find a forever family that understands the joy of having a true little shadow by your side. Adoption Fee: $350 Local Adoption Fee (Texas) $650 Out of State Adoption Fee (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Winston, a dignified yet incredibly sweet 13-month-old Havanese mix who is ready to leave his past behind and find the loving forever home he truly deserves. Weighing in at just 21 lbs., this small, handsome boy with his soft black and tan coat is as charming as he is resilient. Rescued from a hoarding situation along with several other animals, Winston is now safely in foster care, where he is beginning to blossom. He will need to be placed in a home with a male adopter.Despite his difficult start, Winston has already shown what a well-mannered and gentle companion he can be. He gets along nicely with other dogs, making him a great addition to many types of households, although his history with cats remains a mystery. As you might expect, Winston will need time and patience to fully adjust to a new environment. Winston prefers a quiet home.Medium energy level, he will join you for walks around the neighborhood and then settle in for a cozy evening by your side. He is still working on his crate training but has already learned to master his house and leash training. He is a smart boy that aims to please. It is important to remember that although he is housetrained, accidents can still occur while adjusting to a new home environment. More than anything, Winston is searching for a safe, quiet, stable home where he can feel secure, cherished, and truly loved. If you are ready to open your heart and home to a deserving pup, Winston may be the perfect match you have been waiting for. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Winston is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.June 4, 2026, 8:35 am
