Story
BB is a senior at 12 yrs old who truly enjoys a good nap; but if you want to play, it’s on. Her most favorite thing though is “lap napping.” She loves sitting or sleeping in your lap to draw off your body heat because she’s so cold natured. Her pals even tease her by calling her “Chili Dog.”She has a nervous stomach for which she takes an anti-nausea medication before meals to prevent upchucking. She adapts to your routines and is not a rambunctious dog like most Jack Russell’s are. She can kill a rat in 2 seconds flat, but she hides if there’s a fly in the house she can hear and she can shake like Elvis if there’s a thunderstorm in the area. I need to rehome her because of me, not her. She lives with me and 4 other dogs, all house trained. But I’m now 74 and have developed mobility issues that prevent me from taking care of her and 4 other dogs. I have homes for 2 others and am looking for someone who loves a lap dog.

Story
Calling all experienced Jack Russell Terrier lovers! Are you looking for a true, full-of-energy JRT? Meet Akira — the playful adventure-seeker! Akira is a spirited 15 lb Jack Russell Terrier who is ready to bounce her way into the heart of the right person. True to her breed, she is incredibly smart, curious, energetic, and always looking for her next adventure. She loves exploring new places, car rides, toys, and dog puzzles. Thanks to her compact size, she’s the perfect companion to take almost anywhere. Akira is also very affectionate and deeply bonded to her people. She loves cuddling, being close to her humans, and being part of everyday life. She is used to having people around and should not be left alone for long periods of time. Like many intelligent working breeds, Akira needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Without proper outlets for her energy and curiosity, she can become destructive with household objects. Please note that Jack Russell Terriers are not the right fit for every household, especially for first-time dog adopters. Akira is a textbook JRT — she comes with all the amazing qualities people love about the breed, along with the strong personality and quirks that require experienced handling, structure, and leadership. Akira has territorial instincts typical of the breed and does not do well with strangers entering her home, so slow, structured introductions are essential. Her ideal home is an adult-only, calm household with limited visitors and confident owners who can provide clear boundaries and guidance. Akira is good with other dogs and enjoys canine companionship, especially with larger, balanced dogs. However, she can be alpha and bossy when first meeting new dogs, so proper introductions and an experienced adopter who can confidently manage interactions are important. Akira is potty trained and comfortable using potty pads or a doggy door. She is crate trained, spayed, and up to date on all her shots. Akira would thrive in an active, structured home with people familiar with Jack Russell Terriers. In return, she will reward her family with loyalty, cuteness, endless entertainment, cuddles, and adventure. If you think Akira could be the perfect fit for your household and lifestyle, we would love for you to apply to adopt her! Learn more about our adoption process below and fill out an adoption application to take the first step in giving Akira the home she deserves! Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $135 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets. ##2241705##

Story
My brother had taken in this dog from a friend that rescued him. Unfortunately he ended up being too much for just him to take care of along with his young kids. Chuck was already trained before and is pretty well behaved. He is very protective and craves attention and because of this behavior he has snapped at one of the kids barking and protecting my brother. Currently lives with another dog and is fine with him alone but as soon as a person is in the mix he immediately goes to protect that person and will bark and fight the other dog. Chuck would be best as an only dog unless someone knows how to train him to be okay with other pets. He needs a loving home with someone that can give him the attention he deserves.

Story
Meet Reyna - For adorable puppy kisses  Meet Reyna — a happy little terrier mix puppy whose only mission in life is to have FUN! This girl is packed with puppy energy and spends about 80% of her day playing, exploring, and looking for her next adventure. Reyna absolutely loves toys and can usually be found wrestling and romping around with her foster sister. Whether she’s chasing a ball, tugging on a toy, or handing out puppy kisses, she brings excitement and joy wherever she goes. She adores people, loves to cuddle when she finally slows down, and sleeps through the night in her crate like a champ. Reyna has also started enjoying treats, making training more fun — she’s already practicing “sit” and “go to bed.” Like any young puppy, Reyna is still working hard on potty training and continues to make progress every day. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, high-energy puppy who will keep you laughing and on your toes, Reyna is ready to bounce her way into your heart. ##2708238##

Story
Meet Annabelle – Learning Love, One Day at a Time Annabelle is a 3-year-old terrier mix who is discovering just how wonderful life can be as a loved family dog. Once a stray, she’s leaving her “street-dog” days behind and learning what it means to feel safe, secure, and cherished. She’s currently in training to be the perfect home companion—and she’s already come such a long way. Annabelle enjoys running joyful zoomies in the backyard with her foster sister, and wants nothing more than to be close to her people at all times. When she first arrived, Annabelle didn’t quite know how to play nicely and could be a little defensive. But with patience and consistency, she’s learning that she doesn’t have to compete for love anymore—it’s freely given, and she’s soaking that lesson in more every day. Annabelle’s personality is full of charm—she’s a gangly, happy bundle of excitement when her foster comes home and is working on her manners, like learning not to dash out when doors open. With continued guidance and a loving home, she will continue to blossom into an incredible companion. Annabelle would do best with a family who can continue her training, provide structure, and show her the stability she’s never had before. In return, she’ll give you loyalty, affection, and the joy of watching a dog truly come into her own. If you’re looking for a rewarding adoption and a dog who will love you with her whole heart, Annabelle is ready to meet you. ##2676374##
