Boerne is a loyal lovable 2 year old who likes to walk and sit next to you. He loves attention and playing with a variety of chew toys. He is curious and can be shy at first. He is great with other dogs. And loves people. He takes a minute to get to know you but once he does he will seek you out. He is excellent on a leash and he listens to you if he is off leash. He loves an adventure and is good in cars and public parks. Boerne needs an owner who can walk him. Play with him and give him a lot of attention.

Story
Meet Pekoe (aka Pokey) If you’re looking for a gentle soul who will quietly steal your heart, meet Pekoe—better known around her foster home as Pokey because she does just about everything at her own leisurely pace. Pekoe is a Dachshund/Jack Russell mix who came to Dallas DogRRR from a heartbreaking backyard breeder hoarding case. For most of her life, she wasn’t treated like a beloved pet, and was simply expected to be a mama. Now it’s finally her turn to be loved. Since settling into foster care, Pekoe has slowly started coming out of her shell. She’s crate trained, potty trained, dog friendly, and has the sweetest, gentlest temperament. Even when she’s scared, she’s never been aggressive. She can be shy and startles easily, so she’d do best in a calm, patient home where she can continue building confidence. Her crate is her safe place, and you’ll often find her happily snoozing inside. Her favorite quirk? The fastest you’ll ever see Pekoe move is when she hears the squeak of a toy! She races over, proudly claims it, and carries it back to her bed. She’s become quite the little collector, carefully hoarding her favorite toys and balls. Her foster mom cleans out the stash every day… and every day Pekoe patiently brings every single one back. Watching Pekoe discover that life can be filled with kindness, soft beds, and love has been incredibly rewarding. She still has some blossoming to do, but she’s already proving what a sweet, loyal companion she can be. If you have a quiet home, a little patience, and a big heart, Pekoe is ready to spend the rest of her life finally being someone’s beloved girl.

Story
Ruby's story is heartbreaking. She came from a backyard breeder whose owner sadly passed away. The family planned to euthanize her, but we couldn't let that happen. She now has a second chance- but she needs a foster to help her start this new chapter.

Story
Calling all experienced Jack Russell Terrier lovers! Are you looking for a true, full-of-energy JRT? Meet Akira — the playful adventure-seeker! Akira is a spirited 15 lb Jack Russell Terrier who is ready to bounce her way into the heart of the right person. True to her breed, she is incredibly smart, curious, energetic, and always looking for her next adventure. She loves exploring new places, car rides, toys, and dog puzzles. Thanks to her compact size, she’s the perfect companion to take almost anywhere. Akira is also very affectionate and deeply bonded to her people. She loves cuddling, being close to her humans, and being part of everyday life. She is used to having people around and should not be left alone for long periods of time. Like many intelligent working breeds, Akira needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Without proper outlets for her energy and curiosity, she can become destructive with household objects. Please note that Jack Russell Terriers are not the right fit for every household, especially for first-time dog adopters. Akira is a textbook JRT — she comes with all the amazing qualities people love about the breed, along with the strong personality and quirks that require experienced handling, structure, and leadership. Akira has territorial instincts typical of the breed and does not do well with strangers entering her home, so slow, structured introductions are essential. Her ideal home is an adult-only, calm household with limited visitors and confident owners who can provide clear boundaries and guidance. Akira is good with other dogs and enjoys canine companionship, especially with larger, balanced dogs. However, she can be alpha and bossy when first meeting new dogs, so proper introductions and an experienced adopter who can confidently manage interactions are important. Akira is potty trained and comfortable using potty pads or a doggy door. She is crate trained, spayed, and up to date on all her shots. Akira would thrive in an active, structured home with people familiar with Jack Russell Terriers. In return, she will reward her family with loyalty, cuteness, endless entertainment, cuddles, and adventure. If you think Akira could be the perfect fit for your household and lifestyle, we would love for you to apply to adopt her! Learn more about our adoption process below and fill out an adoption application to take the first step in giving Akira the home she deserves! Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $135 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets. ##2241705##
