Story
Meet Odie !! This super cute guy and his brother Garfield (posted separately) ended up in an overcrowded shelter. Thankfully we were able to get them out safely and they are thriving! ***They need to go to SEPARATE homes*** Odie is male and approx 1 year old. The person that turned them over to the shelter said they are Yorkie/Chi mix but the favor Jack Russell mixes more. He is currently 12.7 pounds and is full grown. He will be given several sets of vaccines, deworming, a microchip and neuter as part of his adoption. These two were definitely showing littermate syndrome when we picked them up. Once separated they have immediately flourished and are doing so much better. They will go to separate homes as that is what is in their best interest. Odie is a happy, spunky and super fun dog. He loves everyone and everything and enjoys life so much. Really a fantastic personality. He is a very energetic and active dog that needs an active home. Hes not a lapdog at all but does like to cuddle and be held once hes gotten all of his energy out. He loves other dogs and loves all people. He has no concept of how little he is and will jump into playing with giant dogs. In his mind hes big lol. He easily holds his own with active dogs much larger than he is. He has never met cats but we can already see hes likely going to be too much for them. He adores children and does great with them. Odie is working on his training. Hes doing good with leash walking and is great on car rides. He currently hates his crate and is very vocal about it. Hes potty trained but marks his territory indoors still. His neuter should help with that. He has not had any issues so far with sharing food, treats or toys with humans or other dogs. He has a medium to high energy level. He definitely needs a good outlet for all that energy. He will run and play with you or other dogs. He also loves toys. Hes very fun and is just excited about life. He cuddles and likes to be held as long as those energy needs are met first. Hes a great mix of excited energy and love bug. If youre looking for a smaller dog with a big personality he might be your guy! He is ready for adventures and anything fun. Home and vet checks required. No apartments- hes to vocal and energetic Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) !!Please message the VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. The person that turned them over to the shelter said they are Yorkie/Chi mix but the favor Jack Russell mixes more. He is currently 9.8 pounds and is full grown. He will be given several sets of vaccines, deworming, a microchip and neuter as part of his adoption. These two were definitely showing littermate syndrome when we picked them up. Once separated they have immediately flourished and are doing so much better. They will go to separate homes as that is what is in their best interest. Garfield is a happy, sweet and super fun dog. He loves everyone and everything and enjoys life so much. Really a fantastic personality. He is fun and spunky but also chills out when you do. Hes not a lapdog at all but does like to cuddle and be held once hes gotten all of his energy out. If anything exciting is going on hes up and in the middle of it. He loves all other dogs but has a serious humping problem. He doesnt care if they are male or female. Hes persistent but will stop if they snap at him and tell him no. If a dog is super passive he is relentless about it. Hopefully his upcoming neuter will help with that. He has never met cats but we can already see hes likely going to be too much for them. He isnt fostered with kids but did great with all the kids hes met so far. Any kids would need to be respectful and not treat him like a toy. Garfield is working on his training. Hes starting to figure out leash walking and is good on car rides. He currently hates his crate and is very vocal about it. Hes getting better each day. Hes not fully potty trained but gets more outside than inside at this point. We think he will catch on soon. He isnt as bad about marking as his brother but may do it some in a new place. He has not had any issues so far with sharing treats or toys with humans or other dogs. His foster feed his dog separately so we are not sure how he would do about sharing his food, but he is fine eating in his crate. He has a medium to high energy level. He definitely needs a good outlet for all that energy. He will run and play with you or other dogs. Hes very fun and is just excited about life. Story
Meet Susye — A Young Girl Ready for a Home of Her Own Sometimes the best dogs have the hardest beginnings. Susye’s second chance began when a Nashville Fire Department EMT realized that the homeless woman caring for her would not be leaving the hospital. He could not bear the thought of this young dog being left with nowhere to go, so he brought Susye home and made sure she was safe. For the past three months, Susye has been living with her firefighter foster dad and his four dogs. She has been a happy, peaceful addition to the family and has settled into home life beautifully. She is crate trained when needed, loves using the dog door, and enjoys spending time in the fenced backyard. Now fully vetted and spayed, Susye is turning 8 months old this month and is ready for a forever home with the stability she deserves. She weighs 43 pounds. We believe Susye may be a Feist, Rat Terrier, or Jack Russell Terrier mix, possibly with some herding breed influence. She is bright, active, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever is happening. Like many young herding and terrier mixes, she will do best with regular exercise, engagement, and continued training. Although Susye adores her foster dog siblings, they are all older. Her foster dad cannot help but think she would especially love a home with a younger, playful dog companion who can match her energy and enjoy growing up alongside her. Her firefighter foster dad also works 12-hour shifts, and caring for five dogs has become more than he can reasonably maintain long-term. Susye is loved and safe, but this was always meant to be her stepping stone—not her final destination. She would thrive with a family that can give her companionship, consistency, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to use her smart young mind. A securely fenced yard would be wonderful, and another playful dog would be a big bonus. Susye has already experienced more uncertainty than any puppy should. Now she is ready for the part of her story where she belongs somewhere for good. ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.August 13, 2026, 12:35 am
