🐾 Meet Hank Ray
Hank Ray is a gentle giant with a soft heart, excellent manners, and a pretty convincing argument for the joys of adopting a grown-up dog. 🤎
At 8 years old, this handsome chocolate Lab mix was surrendered through no fault of his own. Now in foster care, Hank is showing everyone what a sweet, easygoing, low-maintenance companion he can be.
Hank loves being around people, although he can still be a little timid at times. Give him a chance to get comfortable, and you'll discover a sweet boy who genuinely enjoys affection and happily soaks up pets from his people.
Want an easy way to Hank's heart? Treats certainly don't hurt. 😄
Hank is very food-motivated and has even perfected the art of catching treats right out of the air. Despite his enthusiasm for snacks, he takes treats remarkably gently from people.
Hank currently lives peacefully with six other dogs in his foster home, so we know he can absolutely enjoy canine company. But he's also a guy who appreciates the right match.
His previous family reported that Hank did well with small dogs, puppies, and female dogs, but relationships with medium-to-large male dogs could be more complicated. He could become overly interested and didn't always respond well to corrections from larger males. A compatible female, smaller dog, or easygoing canine companion may be his best match, with a proper introduction helping everyone make sure the chemistry is right.
There's one other important rule among Hank's canine roommates: nobody messes with his dinner. Hank does well sharing his home with other dogs as long as they respect his food, so meals and other high-value food items should be kept separate from other pets.
And we now have some good news about cats!
While Hank's previous experience with cats was unknown, his foster has observed him around them and reports that he shows no reaction. That's an encouraging sign that Hank could potentially share his home with feline friends.
Hank has also previously lived with a young child and was described as exceptionally patient, respectful, and gentle. His former family had wonderful things to say about his temperament, and everything we're learning in foster care continues to show what a sweet guy he is.
Hank's leash skills have apparently come a long way, too. His previous family reported that he could be a strong puller, but his current foster describes him as a gentleman on walks who doesn't pull. Way to go, Hank! 🐾
He's also crate trained and accustomed to settling quietly when his people are away. Hank doesn't need to turn every moment into an event. He's much more interested in enjoying a comfortable life with people he loves.
Give Hank affection, comfortable places to relax, leisurely walks, compatible animal friends, and—very importantly—a steady supply of treats, and this sweet boy is pretty content.
